The rigorous scrutiny of carbon crediting is what makes the financing of water projects in Africa sustainable. It begins with a thorough "baseline' assessment, to understand what water provision would be like in the communities, if the project didn't go ahead. During the baseline study in the North of Kilifi County we found that safe water is ONLY provided, if its provided at all, by the burning of wide wood, cut from the nearby trees.
