This is great! Thanks for posting! I have seen these clips before but not on YT, I think it was on some foreign site but I cant remember where now, but they had a few clips from NOTW. I wish they would bring this competition back or one like it! :)
Great video. Looks like they are throwing on an oak board. Every now and then you can see the water squeeze out from around where the dart point enters the board. I threw on an oak board during a league match and it is definitely interesting to say the least.
Elm board, I preferred throwing on an Elm board. Only the tip of the point stuck in and left more space for the rest of the dart. We all used brass darts then.
Hi S Mcque. Firstly, great that you posted this footage, thank you. I was wondering, do you have (or know of where I could get hold of) the matches from the round before the QF's from '74? I'm not too sure if they were classed as 'prelims' but the match I'm specifically looking for is Paul Gosling vs John Moore. Thanks.
I wonder what these players would make of today's modern game where if you weren't going out in five visits with the throw and four visits against you were going home!
Brass barrels, fat wire staple boards while shooting in a tie or sweater with a cigarette hanging out of your mouth.......the days of old when men were real men.
Love the green brackets holding the board up 😀
I love this, it’s from 20 years before I was born but it’s amazing
Absolutely brilliant, many thanks for uploading, this is as enjoyable as anything today.
Are those brass darts with plastic flights? And love how he's throwing with a cigarette in his mouth
Rachel Reeves would have a melt down. 😁

Thank you for that 😅
Who wants a suit to throw darts ….love it 😀
Some crowd at it wow
Wow. Those outfits. And the way they throw looks also weird.

That's too many haha
Back when smoking was cool as fck
What's that dartboard
17:08 Really reminds me of Lorraine Winstanley.
Um, no offence.
Great crowd just cheering not singing the same moronic songs on loop like it is now.
Actually see better darts thrown in a Monday night league game nowadays, but we aren't throwing from 9 ft and with brass darts or a crowd that size.
8 feet. NOTW always was, from 1927.
the commentator hasnt a clue
You haven’t a clue mate. One of the greatest commentators ever, Dave Lanning. Called darts right up until 2010s. He is heritage.
So true dave lanning one of the best
I think I could have won the News Of the World title.
These guys are rubbish.
Bloddly shit never make it this ara
Dude Bond you spell as good as they play then.
What is this crazy machine in usage on the stage? :)
