If there's one thing I've learned from this whole movie run, it's that Renee Rapp is truly THAT GIRL! Like, she can sing, she's pretty, she's a lesbian icon, she can act, she's a Megan Thee Stallion supporter, she's extremely funny, like, what's not to love about her?!
FunFact: the French Teacher is played by Ashley Park who was the Original Gretchen in the Broadway Show, also when Gretchen shows her Spotify you can see that Thieving Dreams is playing, one of Babe Wood song, Babe Wood is in fact the one who plays this Gretchen
janis is played by bi icon auli'i cravaho who is the moana voice actor!! she's also in a queer romcom called crush I highly recommend if you haven't seen it!!
Whenever I talk about Renee Rapp nobody knows who she is. And the best way I can describe her (without the Broadway aspect) is “Think Billie Eillish mixed with Christina Aguilera mixed with a little hint of Ariana Grande. With the relatability and realness of your best friend from high school”
While I love Angourie Rice, she just felt bland and forgettable in comparison with the flashier characters such as Janis, Damien, Regina and Karen. While she's a capable actress, her singing felt standard compared to her costars, and she's supposed to be the lead.
@@Siwa_Pyra I'm not buying that. Most people in the English speaking world grow up listening to some American Pop music.. To the extent that even non-American English-speaking singers often sing in an American accent. (think harry Styles for example)
I don’t think that’s such a terrible move for her character tho. kinda plays into cady being an outsider who isn’t as in tune with her environment like the other characters. I’m not saying that’s what they were going for, but it’s not as bad of a move to put the weaker singer in her role. if regina had the same issue, we’d have a problem.
While I appreciated that they removed Coach Carr preying on his underage students, I wish that they'd given Jon Hamm more to do. Same goes for Jenna Fischer and Ashley Park, though I liked the small reference to Ms. Norbury and Principal Duvall being in a relationship.

One thing I'll give this movie its tens on (other than the casting for most of them we don't talk about Aaron) is how Damien and Janis somehow FEEL closer than even in the original. Janis was so mean in the original that Damien felt more like a follower than her best friend, here I can believe that they are bffs and that they actually like Cady. My two hags Ms Norbury and Principal Duvall got together, I love winning!
The one scene that genuinely made me scream was that Halloween dance break scene. It was phenomenal. But it is iconic. Then Renee's song came on and I was just blown away.
i still can't get over Janis being played by Moana like the actress felt pigeonholed into that girl from Disney, to being one of the most iconic roles of the movie.

I do wonder why they didn’t get more casts members from the stage versions. Some fans from the original act like watching this one or this one even existing is going to erase the original or something 😒, so thank you for your reaction 😊
Y'all heard the word "nepo baby" and ran with it. Angourie is not a nepo baby! Having successful parents does not equal being successful because of nepotism. Sure, Angourie's mom and dad are also actors, but they've only worked in Australia. Her parents are local actors in Australia, meaning its very unlikely that they have enough influence to get their daughter an in into big film projects in a completely different country. It's not like Angourie's first projects were immediately big projects, she began acting in small projects.
when we’re first introduced to the plastics in the broadway musical version, each plastic had their own little solo, but this movie cut out almost half of the songs in the og musical

It’s such a shame that Gretchen and Karen’s verses of “Meet The Plastics” were cut. The whole song serves their introduction so much better than just having Regina’s verse
22:36 See I actually really like what Angourie did with Cady’s character here because it felt like being mean came less easily to this version of the character. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying I like this better than Lindsay’s version or anything. I think for me I like both movies equally, but for different reasons. I think the original was funnier, and I think the characters in this movie feel a little more realistic to me. But I’m also a little biased towards this one because Reneé Rapp played Regina as a lesbian, and I’m a sucker for sapphic subtext.
Regina, Karen and Gretchen carried! Cady was too timid in this version so I didn't buy her transformation at all. Could be the acting or directing or casting or all of it, but that made it a miss for me. I respect the whole cast and crew for their effort either way - the original left some big shoes to fill!
24:13 I think the French teacher was the actress who played Gretchen Wiener in the original Broadway cast - or at least played her at some point during its run on Broadway. She's still copying Regina's looks.
