I really liked this one but I completely agree about Izma, when the book started with her perspective I was very excited, since she is not that big of a character in Antigone and I thought giving her more depth would be very interesting, it was kind of wasted in the end. But it was a very compelling book and one that reads very easily, I can see it winning.

I am way behind with my reading but I have just finished Home Fire. I loved it and it changed my view about a few things. It gave me insight that I should have had but somehow hadn’t (shamefully) considered. It was quite fast paced..something I don’t always like in a book. I had to slow myself down so I could consider what I was reading. But all in all I loved this book if love is the right word for such a story line. I just relistened to your review, having listened first before I read it. An excellent review. You do good justice to this book, as all the books you talk about. Thank you.

I don't think it's fair to say that Parvaiz was radicalised. He was very naive and wanted to talk to people who knew his father. He never thought he was going to stay.
I didn't hate it but for some reason it felt too much like YA for me to love it.

It sounds very interesting. I wonder if it plays into a sense of guilt tripping that the intelligentsia tend towards on the matter of terrorism and extremism, ie: that 'we' are in some responsible, or wrong for reacting to jihadism in a certain way? I can imagine that this is a popular and attractive narrative for some, as a way of self effacement and explanation.

I try to spend an hour or two reading every day, but if I have a whole day off I'll often spend much longer than that reading. :)
