It wasn't my first anime, but it was the first anime to make me sit there and watch every single episode without multitasking, and that makes it good in my books

Man I’ve probably seen over 4000 anime in my time Fairy Tail is just a Hentai. & even if your looking for ecchi or fan service anime Queens blade & Sekirei are better so just watch those instead. Personally I cant & wont watch too much ecchi cause it’s just a tease but if you like it good on you.
god, i'm only 21 minutes into this and i already started to tear up. no matter what, these arcs make me cry hard especially with loke and lucy's stories.
Each time I watch the Arc with the Fairy Tail Guild I cry half the times during their times of hardship through tough enemies only to finally beat them at the end but with different ending twists.
Natsu and Gajeel not being able to pass through Freed’s enchantments because of the Eclipse gate sending them forward 400 years is some INSANE foreshadowing.

my fav bit of foreshadowing is a easily missable moment. theres a gang a bandits that natsu and the others come across in the first few episodes (im not sure which exact one) and one of the bandits is a fortune teller. he tells gray he'll have great trouble with women and water in the future.
Natsu eating Laxus' lightning never seemed out of place to me as it's explained early that he attempted it before and it made him sick. Like any sickness I figured he would have gotten a resistance after attempting it. That would allow him to use it for a short time. At least, that's what I thought.
I figured if he was eating it in small batches, he could use the HEAT of the lightning as a quick- not good- substitute for fire, in a pinch, like he most often is when he uses lightning-fire dragon magics.
That moment Lucy tried summoning the spell in the Games and it was absorbed by that one guy got me so mad. Why do my girl dirty like that? I cried with her (who am I kidding, I cry every episode)
That Arc with Lucy losing alot and her getting beaten during the magic games really made me very mad too. It's just unfair to poor Lucy after she tried her hardest.
When I was 14, I had afanficnwhere one of the planned twists was that Natsu and Zeref were brothers, but a friend back then advised me against it because it would be too weird and it woud never happen, so no one would like it. Who's laughing now, Danny????

It is not very good. At all. It has its pros. And a lot of cons. HOWEVER. That shouldn’t diminish your own enjoyment of it, if you love Fairy Tail then love it with all your heart. Hell I love Bleach and even that gets fired on. But I still love It
To be fair, in terms of the "Power of Friendship" thing, doesn't Natsu's Fire Dragon-Slayer Magic get stronger the more emotional or passionate he gets? I feel like this was confirmed and I feel people HEAVILY ignore that. Like, maybe with other characters that makes the argument meh, but I feel like most of the arguments come from fights with Natsu winning randomly.
yessss, I also remember, tho I don't know if its canon or just an implication, that the 'magic' in ft is always based on feelings...that while they can get stronger through training they can still can get a huge boost by having strong emotions or feelings...
It's the exact same shit. Having a "power of friendship" being canon and it explaining Natsu winning doesn't make his wins better. In fact this makes absolutely no sense because most of the time he loses badly his situation was still extremely dire. That's a terrible excuse and it's still extremely inconsistent.
@@Wyllowisp I mean, during his fight with Jellal, you can tell he was more angry in that scene than he had been prior in the series, and eating the shit meant to kill him probably also could be explained as "the pain from that experience caused his body to react accordingly and allow his rage to build even further", which in the end might have subsided the pain entirely. It isn't explained, and the only real bad part is that it isn't, but if you take into account that people have used pain to fuel their power before in certain stories, and how Natsu's power relies on his emotions, it isn't TOO out of the question that he would do that just to get more angry. The power of friendship makes no sense because "having friends" is not a power boost. That can act as a motivation but not a boost, which a lot of series that use that don't take into account. But Natsu's fire burns hotter the more passionate he gets. Thematically with the element of fire, it makes sense. Fire is commonly associated with passion.

Its not an in universe law/lore written into the story like OP was stating. Its still badly written and your explanations are more headcanon because Mashima literally said the reason he wrote fairy tail the way it is because he purely wanted a simple wholesome story after feeling down about Rave Masters. In other words, its an author intent without anymore thought put into it. Did he perhaps wrote at some point in concept something along the lines of "Natsu is a very passionate person and is reflected by his fire magic and usual salamander attire"? likely yes sure but there is no in universe law that says "Natsu's flames gets a powerup the moment he becomes even more passionate" like this is nen from HxH or Binding Vows from JJK. For Fairy Tail, its purely fluff and at times, poorly build up metaphors
I'm a huge sucker for the "reformed villains" trope. It always got me hella excited when Gajeel, Laxas, Sting (etc) eventually join the good guys team, especially when they are toeing up against whatever the newest baddies are.
The series has its problems, and as it goes on Mashima just can't seem to help himself. But, can a series that has one of the most attractive male characters in fiction really be all that bad? *from back of the room:* "Yeah, I guess Laxus is pretty attractive." ALRIGHT, who said that?!
A lot of what Mashima does is to just please everyone which can't be done. For a series to be great all around. And the fact there is a near endless amount of possible arcs is also another can of worms. After all it leaked that Lisanna was removed after toxicity among Nali and NaLu shippers got too intense and Mashima kinda just got cold feet on the former. That and the fact that in a certain arc Mashima brought back Lisanna cause his like HR person for his manga team like requested. Essentially Lisanna wasn't even suppose to be in the post GmG arcs. Which is why her lines post GmG's are so just awkward and don't fit the plot muchless the shipping that some fans were obsessed over. Instead Mashima went with the latter ship as most NaLu shipping went without a problem. Not to mention fans had already made not only a ship name but came up with the Fairy Tail Next generations name for the NALU paring. Something that NaLi fans seemed to completely miss while shipping NaLi. Essentially NaLu fit what Mashima was planning just about perfectly and thats why in the last few arcs and even the eclipse arc. NaLu got pushed so heavily.
Fairy Tail it's something that was marked in my heart, I never went to cry but Fairy Tail always made me cry with joy and sadness, whenever I watch I feel something warm in my chest, It really made me feel like a guild member
Let's not forget that Lucy opening all the gates of the keys she had early on was telling of her potential. When she pushes herself she can really be a beast.
People say fairy tail characters don't change but look at erza she was so strict at the beginning that everyone was scared of her on galoona she held a sword to Grays neck erza at the end of the series would never do that
Sure, it's not the greatest anime ever, but calling it the worst popular anime of all time is going too far. It has its fair share of lows and highs, but there's stuff that is much much worse than this.

The only thing I found wrong with this was the overlooking of Gray and Juvia's relationship and how much they cared for one another. Their fight in the Alvarez arc had so much more meaning, when Gray says to Juvia that he could never hurt her and how he wanted to protect her, it came from a place of love that wasn't like the love he has for the rest of his guildmates. Juvia has been the one person to truly understand him and help him. In the time skip after Tartaros they lived together in that cottage she was at and he left for that job to infiltrate Avatar, didn't mention it to protect her. He killed himself in that moment because he couldn't bring himself to kill the one person who saved him from the darkness just as he had saved her from the rain. Juvia freeing his father from keys had a lot more meaning to it for him than her just helping him. Like I get it if you don't like the ship nor their dynamic but this just brushed off their relationship and how deeply they love each other. They don't just randomly become a thing in the end.
What keeps me from getting behind the ship is Juvia’s obsessive nature. If she learned to respect Gray’s boundaries and realized how uncomfortable he is with her advances, that would be great. But even after he reciprocates, her obsession remains intact, which continues to rub me the wrong way. It’s because of that it dampens the tender moments between them for me. I just hate the trope of an obsessive character getting what they want without moving past that unhealthy part of themselves. It carelessly gives off the impression that if you keep pushing, eventually the object of your attraction will give in. Such behavior is scary af if it were to happen to someone in real life, so for it to be romanticized unsettles me.
to be fair, there is at least some downtime every now and then, as well as the second timeskip. But still, I'd bow my hat if I had one for such productivity
Growing up with undiagnosed autism and an increasing interest for anime that had me isolated from my peers and relatives, Fairy Tail held a major part in my life. People automatically assumed my silence to be disinterest and or complete shut down, but when my older cousin noticed the show over my shoulder and pointed out her interest in the show, I could not stop talking, finally allowing a sort of relief with not being alone and she entertained me, understanding the love one can have towards the show and only pushing me to decide to myself that I really simply liked Fairy Tail. It’s understandable that people wouldn’t find the series to be very deep or including any real notable content to it, but it’s a show that holds close to a lot of people, a lot finding friends and community in a series that hammers into that very thought of companionship. It’s an amazing series and I hope that many people would still be able to find themselves watching it despite the flaws surrounding it and the hivemind dictating it to be bad.
I don't consider myself to be an "emotional guy". I'm not saying I don't appreciate moments that are supposed to be heart felt or gut wrenching, but I've never been a guy that actually tears up very easily. However, I have no problem admitting that Fairy Tail flat out *broke me* at points: Lucy breaking down at Makarov reinforcing to her that she is a member of their family, Erza's scream of anguish after Simon dies in her arms, Lucy's reaction to reading the final letter her dad wrote for her during her 7 year absence, Gray breaking down and thanking Juvia for saving his dad, Gajeel's confession to Levy, and the list goes on. This show made me care deeply for its characters, to the point I was more so emotionally invested in the struggles they faced rather than just being interested in how they overcame the physical threats in their way. For comparison, Dragon Ball is a lot of fun to watch in a "mindless action" kind of way, but nothing in that show has any real stakes because of the existence of the dragon balls themselves. I don't care about Majin Vegeta killing all the people at the World Tournament because it's all undone in a matter of hours, but Jellal killing Simon while possessed by Ultear is something he has to live with for the rest of his life and I sympathize with him because of that. Fairy Tail has some issues, not even the staunchest of defenders will ever deny that. However, claiming something has flaws is not synonymous with it being "bad". And while there are things about Fairy Tail that bug me, I will always say it's still a great show because what it does do well it does phenomenally. Sure, Erza should have been obliterated when she came between Gray and E.N.D.'s killing blows, but her tears being what restores Natsu's broken mind and her hugging them both while telling them how much she loves them is a moment that tugs at my heart strings so much that it's easy for me not to care that it doesn't make sense. (at least on a surface level, you can play some mental gymnastics to make it make sense but at face value yeah it's absolutely ridiculous)

I got addicted to Fairy Tail because it has some kind of mystery that give a cheer and warm feeling to me and made me feel like I'm a member of the guild and taught me the concept of friendship that no other anime has ever done and probably never will. The haters just don't wanna give much time to fairy tail and rant it because of the female character's bodies but I see their bright and cheerful personality and that makes me happy!
You know I was really hoping when they made the Fairy Tail game it would be one where you make your own character to actually join Fairy Tail and be your own mage. But I'm told it's just the show turned into a game, but also it is Fairy Tails first game (I think) so if it does good maybe we'll get more.
@@demetriusprime1505 Oh they did that already! Sadly, like several other games, it wasn't released overseas. I forgot the title, but you could customize your own character. Downside is that it was move weapon-based than using other kinds of magic. I guess they wanted your character to be unique rather than copying someone else but it wasn't that good. Then again, it was a psp game. It was fun interacting with the character though!
I watched a good chunk of fairy tail. The first few arcs, all the way up to the end of Erza's arc was exactly as you described, but after that it fell off hard for me, and by the magic tournament I disliked the show and hated it for ruining its initial promise and having me sink so much time into it. Though, If you had the same experience all the way through then that's good and I'm happy for you.
With the exception of Makarov's ressurection I actually don't mind the ending. Yes closing the story on Zeref and Mavis ascending to the afterlife would be a stronger end but ultimately the one we got works. Because it has Lucy doing something clever and everyone else chipping in to help pull it off and it has Natsu getting a boost from those in the fight with him to finish off the bad guy. It's quintessential Fairy Tail. Also I like that it's not just Natsu beat Acnologia - it's that Acnologia has a moment of clarity and realises how far off his original goal he's gotten but being unable to stop himself so the Dragon Slayers do it for him. It parallels Acnologia and Zeref nicely and I like that Mashima did that for his two big villains.
Honestly, the moment we found out about Zeref's past and his true intentions, I was rooting for him. I wanted him to win, to create his perfect world, even if it would mean Fairy Tail and the others would lose. He's such a tragic character, and while I know he ended up getting what he wanted in a sense(AKA: dying), I just wish he got the ending HE wanted. I honestly wish we got like, a non-canon spin off chapter thing of the scenario of if that was the case, but as far as I'm aware, we never did.
To me, Fairy Tail gives off “Saturday Cartoon” vibes which isn’t a bad thing. I really enjoyed it when I was younger. Honestly, once you’re a veteran of anime, or have experienced many different genres and styles, it’s harder to be impressed by shows you haven’t seen yet. The common anime tropes we find annoying become much more apparent.
As far as Saturday morning cartoon shows would go, Fairy Tail is pretty fucking good. I'm not gonna pretend that it is high art, even among other shounen like One Piece or Fullmetal Alchemist, but there are WAYYYYY worse shows to like than Fairy Tail. Fairy Tail at its best makes me feel nostalgic for the days when I watched DBZ and Naruto as a kid, and at worst, it is just mediocre shlock. But, is that really so bad?
Fairy Tail is like a middle school photo. Not the ones that you try to hide away because you look bad but the ones you smile at fondly and think "we were so stupid back then"
Wendy Marvell is my favorite character that I connected to on a personal level. Initially, she’s presented as what one might take for the stereotype of a Shojo Manga protagonist: unsure of herself, sniveling and overly emotional. In their first encounter with the Oracion Seis, she has a near panic attack and kicking herself for not soldiering through it. However, what seems like a quirk turns out to be something more. Like with Natsu and Gajeel, Wendy’s dragon disappeared. This is something she took hard, wandering around in tears before finding who she thought to be Jellal. Yet just when she thought she had somebody to fill the void, her “Jellal” dumps her at the phony Cait Shelter due to more pressing matters. And that’s before Cait Shelter turns out to have been Magical Projections, more friend who disappear after Nirvana’s been dealt with. There’s a particular moment that hits hard when she begs to know what she did wrong. It felt like Grandiene leaving her all over again, something she blamed on herself. Was she unworthy of being a Dragon Slayer? Did Jellal not like her? Why? This struggle with abandonment issues ties in with her low sense of self-worth. She’s quick to come down on herself for thing she couldn’t help and feels a constant need to prove herself as not a burden. When Raven Tail nullifies her Magic and forces her to miss day one of the Grand Magic Games, she sobs for letting others down even if nobody else blames her. I legit always think, “Hey, it’s gonna be okay…” softly out of connection to the character. Sure, she’s a cute little girl ala the likes of Eri yet I feel a sense of, “I’d take a bullet for her” in a “I relate to her emotional turmoil too much” kind of feeling. She can handle herself but need the right encouragement.

Harry Potter, Naruto, Star Wars, Hunger Games, Undertale, FNAF, Danganronpa, My Hero Academia, RWBY, Sherlock, Final Fantasy, even Game of Thrones with Jon x Dany or Ygritte at one point. Honestly the only shipping fandom with little toxicity is Ace Attorney, and that's only because nobody argues against WrightWorth.
From my experience, most fans (including myself) fully recognize the series flaws and just don't care. Someone could rant to me about how much it sucks and my response would be: "Ok, and?"
Fairy Tail was one of my first animes ever and it made me fall in love with the genre. The characters were so well written that I literally cried when the manga ended. The story progression and development felt natural and not forced, the characters felt human in their emotions, the magic system was thought out, etc. I even went on a rant in defense of Lucy when people were calling her a "weak" character. In the manga chapter of Sting vs Fairy Tail, I'm pretty sure it mentions how overwhelming the aura is. How strong the Fairy Tail wizards appear to be, despite how injured they were
Thank you for this. I never necessarily needed validation in my love for fairy tail but knowing there are others out there in my camp puts a smile on my face. Fairy Tail is what happens when an anime doesn't lie to you about what it is. It never gave you any illusions, from the start ot let you know it was a story of the power of friendship and finding your own family.... and also busty women. But truly it just doesn't try to edge lord it's tropes. One of the most honest anime ever.
Honestly, Fairy Tail is the perfect example of what shonen is. It's got over-the-top action, eccentric characters, friends throwing hands because reasons, tragic backstories, the power of friendship, and bonkers plots. But most of all, the heroes never lose and nobody effing dies unless it's a bad guy getting beaten by another bad guy. It's not perfect, but it's a good first shonen anime.

These shows also have many moments where the cast or certain characters just simply should've been dead or lost. An aspect that is never appreciated by those who are so critical of Fairy Tail is the fact that the story felt planned. You see frequent, seemingly insignificant details early on that eventually play out in later arcs. So many of manga/anime out there are clearly written week by week and it shows with the constant retconning and, most noticeably, drastic dips in pacing. Fairy Tail never slowed down, it rarely took breaks and would frequently give readers more than the usual 19 page/week entertainment whereas a bunch of series slow down and drag the story out cause the author don't really know where to take the story.
and its because of what you said that the shows quality drops over time. the fairy tail is the classic case of giving importance to the predetermined destination rather than the journey overall which opens a fck ton of loopholes,inconsistencies and awful story telling. mashima had a vision of natsu fighting the final boss acknologia and win without even thinking on process on how would he be able to do it. honestly, fairy tail had great potential and its groundwork from the start is solid that despite negative criticism it lasted longer than it would have.
@@hulkman245 Mashima been on record that was like the opposite of what he actually wanted Fairy Tail to be and we have enough personal stakes to make up for that. It's about how Fairy Tail rises up in spite of difficulties and I respect that. If you want a more serious adventure, EZ is your thing cause that Mashima "Let's get unfiltered" manga. Though, I do agree certain characters like Makarov who aren't doing much should have died.

One of my favourites and really showcases Natsu as a absolutely phenominal main character and Lucy as one of the greatest shoe hustlers of all time. It displays his greatest feats and how he can beat Goku.
the story of August to me was honestly insanely depressing. I was so very sad to know that Mavis never knew of her son, and that August was never able to form a familial bond with his parents. It really made me sad and kind of left a hole in my heart.
I had the same problem. I loved the anime when I watched it, but due to not watching it in years I was questioning weather it was really good. In sort I re-watched it, and I still do love it with all my heart because its amazing.
"Wait, are we copying Bleach or One Piece?" "Fairy Tail" For real though I'm glad that Black Clover just barely avoided the same hate train Fairy Tail got. Even as someone who generally disliked FT, the fanbase did *not* deserve this kinda treatment in the anime community.
@@amirgarcia547 Oh abso*fucking*lutely. I watched the anime first, and was blown away by the manga's artwork and visual direction. Even its duller moments are so much easier to sit through in the manga.
Black Clover still got a bit of it though. Although it's not ENTIRELY undeserved considering just how much filler they crammed in at the very start, like holy shit. There's also the fact that Astas Japanese VA was super grating on the ears in the beginning, especially when he was yelling words and other stuff. To be fair though his voice actor DID improve quite a bit some time later, although his voice in the beginning still makes me want to end it at all with just how annoying and rough on the ears it can be at certain points.
@@dantethewanderer4989 I don't think that's the franchise's fault though. The original manga is really snappy and quickly-paced in the beginning, it's just that the anime made some, ehm... *unique* creative choices in its first run-- some of which I'd argue actually enhanced the story (like showing Asta and Yuno training, which helped better bridge the gap between chapters 1 and 2). Gakuto Kaijiwara was a relatively new VA at the time, and it's clear he was still finding his bearings in the very beginning. But I give Studio Pierot a massive amount of respect for bringing on fresh, new talent for their series protagonist, instead of just grabbing a bunch of A-list actors like most other anime studios do. He's actually quite the talented voice actor, and an *incredible* singer, and it makes me proud to see how well BC was able to kickstart his own career path. I think the whole "Asta screams constantly" meme was blown *way* out of proportion, and it's clear that Kaijiwara put a ton of passion into the character... which just makes it all the more obnoxious when people take that low-hanging fruit.
@@NerdMiGerd Oh, no, I get it. I'm just saying that the series had a bit of a rough start, not terrible just a bit rough. I just think that its "first impression" for anime only people wasn't quite as strong as it needed to be for it to avoid the screams of "they RUINED it!" from the beginning. Black Clover, in my opinion, needed its first few episodes to just be a BIT stronger, with a bit less filler that stretches out the first few manga chapters, in order for people to get hooked in and not have them assume the anime had pacing problems from the very start. I think I remember THAT being one of the biggest criticisms of the show at the start although I will admit that I was burnt out on "I wanna be the #1 Hero/Pirate King/Hokage/etc..." anime schtick, and started to watch something else pretty soon after. I do know Black Clover HAS improved, based on what I've heard from others, but its start was a bit rough in my opinion and didn't quite manage to find its footing right out of the gate. I DO respect the hell out of Asta as a character for training his body in order to get physically stronger, and getting a ripped as fuck as a result of said training. I honestly respect him WAY more for that than most other Shōnen protagonists sheerly because he wasn't just sitting on his fucking laurels before the series started.
I remember watching Fairy Tail as a teen, and the thing that really stuck with me was that feeling of belonging and comfort, something about the atmosphere and comedy had me laughing out loud like i was part of their crew. It's definetly got flaws, so many other anime do aspects of this show so much better, but the style and heart of this show is something quite special. And just to add damn the ost is good, i love how they used traditional folk sounds and intruments to make such fun music that really fits the tone and style of the show.
you put into words exactly how I feel. fairy tail made me happy, it made me feel emotions no other anime managed to. nowadays everyone looks for some difficult plot or quality storytelling that they forget the fun about anime. Watching fairy tail was the greatest experience for me and I think its one of the best shows out there.
agreed fairy tail makes me so happy its almost like im inside the show with them idk how to explain but watching it just gives a warm comfortable feeling especially since im a very lonely person i always wanted friends like in the show watching it makes me feel like im included in a friend group thats why i love it
After watching this entire video, I just sat on my chair and started to cry. This was a very well made video and it has brought me so many great memories of the show. Even with all its flaws, it still holds a very special place in my heart.

Imo most of the backlash it faces is either people a) judging it for not being things it clearly never tried to be (like the idea that a series as uninterested in world-building as Fairy Tail is somehow trying to copy One Piece- a series whose whole premise and selling point is the exploration of its large scale and intricate world- because idk, Guildarts kinda looks like Shanks lmao), and b) trying to broadcast how "superior" their taste in anime is because shitting on it is popular among that insecure "I'll have you know I have a very exquisite taste and only the deepest of stories are capable of entertaining my 200 IQ giga brain" crowd. The essence of Fairy Tail are the wholesome relationships between the lovable characters and I'm really tired of people acting like its wholesomeness and cheesiness are a bug rather than a feature. It doesn't need a deep, intricate plot. It doesn't need to do things no one has seen before. It doesn't need to be a grimdark angstfest where people die left and right and everything is comically terrible. If that's what you want instead of cheese, go find series that are actually trying to do those things without putting down series that very clearly aren’t. There's a time and place for Fairy Tail as it is.

One fight you sort of skipped over (dont worry there's a lot so it makes sense) was Mira vs the paper lady. It was our first and I think only time, where we saw Mira Jane fight all out. It's a fight I watch over and over again because im just awe struck with how powerful she could be but chooses to hide it.

@@emmalion1976 oh, actually that was one of my least favourit (if you mean Edolas), my favourite was either the dragon king festival with all the guilds competing against each other showing off various powers while also FT raising up from the underdog status to the #1 guild in Fiore, or, tartarus arc, since those fights were just amazing. The last season was pretty okay, since many things got the resolution, from various relationships finally happening to many wizards finally reaching the S rank or at least the level of one (from Lucy with her stardress, to Wendy with her being able to use dragon force really easy)
The ending wasn't bad, it was rushed. They needed at least another 6 episodes to stretch out the fight between the dragon slayers and Achnologia and for them to say their goodbyes. I think them not having enough time made the ending not quite as impactful
yea i really wish they didnt rush it i see no point in them doing that the last episode was so overwhelming it almost felt ridiculous to me. too much was happening in a short amount of time was very disappointed im always optimistic about fairy tail it's a great anime but the ending was definitely a letdown.

Most of the times these shows don't know if they have a another season or not till they are half way through production of the season so they write it with a emergency ending in case they dont get renewed
I'm going to be honest with you, I watched this video expecting to hate it but then you reminded me the moments that made me love this series, mainly Wendy's reveal of her guild people behind a lie, I remember how that broke my heart back then and how I even used that as an example of solipsism in a presentation I had in school. That day my classmates were really happy because that was the only exciting exposicition they got that day xD Man, I hated working on that thing, it took me too long to understand what solipsism was. Anyway, I'm not done with the video but I almost cried at that part, too sad I ended up hating the series because of future characters, interactions, fanservice, and for characters like Natsu never developing as people, and Happy getting worse and worse as a character.
One thing I love is how amazing this show is, I always watch shows and movies with a open mind, and considering this isn’t the first anime I watched it’s a wonder that it’s one of my favourites, honestly it’s in my top three. But this show is amazing and it really does pull you in and makes you really care about the characters. I was legit crying at a lot of the heart renching scenes in this anime, and in my book if a anime or movie can elicit a physical emotion from me then it is never going to be topped.

Did I just finish a 3hr retrospective about Fairy Tail even though I've rewatched the series 3 times and am currently on my 4th rewatch? Yes, yes I did. Did I enjoy every moment of it? Hell yeah. Will I probably watch this again in a couple months? Probably. Fairy Tail is one hell of a drug and this video flawlessly expressed WHY I love this series so much, it really is unlike any anime I've seen before. I still can't finish the final episode to this day because of how much this series means to me, Fairy Tail has quite literally been with me through thick and thin and by finishing the anime I feel as if I'm closing a chapter in my life. Thank you for this video, it really means alot to not only me but all the other Fairy Tail fans who come across this masterpiece.
Extremely overhated anime. The story is fantastic. I do think the next watch through you should finish the final episode, because they will be animating the hundred year quest starting soon, and I know I cannot wait for that.
Fairy tail is a very 7.5-8/10 The only 3 large flaws I agree on are the way Ezra's mother was defeated, Makarov not dying at the end and Lucy nit getting a single satisfying W Besides mentioned, it's a very good shounen with great comedy moments, hype action, decent ships, awesome magic system, great characters and wholesome messages
I'm really glad to see this video, Fairytail was my first anime and I remember loving it so god damn much! I did grow to be a bit more unfair to it as I drifted away from liking anime from a kind fo exuahstion but while doubling as a recap for the series, it totally reafirms my love of the series and appreciate it so much more. You can't sleep on the fact that all the characters are just so fun! There's a reason we sit through hundreds of episodes: the dynamic between all these silly characters is so entertaining at its lightest and so emotionally investing at its deepest.

Okay, I’ve seen ALOT of comments dissing Fairy Tail, but Fairy Tail is the reason that I got into anime and even after watching so many other animes, Fairy Tail is my all-time favorite. Maybe it was the lack of social media use or because I was surrounded by fellow fans but I never hid my love for FT. I was never scared of being ostracized and I’m glad i was able to get the full experience of loving this anime.
Looking back on all these emotional moments is honestly getting me teary eyed. I feel like it doesn't matter what age I am, fairy tail will always have a special place in my heart. It's my comfort show
FT wasn't my first anime, but it was my gateway anime. I remember watching it as a kid and it was super fun and I enjoyed it a lot! Of course now as an adult I can definitely recognize all the flaws in the show, I never really cared for all the fan service or how Lucy always felt like she was more of a reaction character then action one (and she was so whiney sometimes), among other things. BUT I will say that I still get that sense of childlike enjoyment when I rewatch the show. Is it messy and definitely not perfect? Yeah of course it is, but it always feels nice when I return to it.

Really? Cause from my experience and interactions with others they hype her up to an annoying extent. I’ve seen it go to the extent of dragging other characters like Natsu, Gray, and Erza through the mud as a way to make Lucy look better. That’s just from the experiences I’ve had. I have met some people who have good logical reason for liking Lucy and I agree with them. I like her character plenty but it’s the over active and obsessed fans that throw me off. (If this came off as offensive to anyone I’m sorry, I do like Lucy in case I want clear).

Whenever someone says Fairy Tail is terrible, I say "Yes. And I love it so much." It rarely happens that a series that is really bad in many places brings me such joy instead of constant frustration. And I think that's art within itself. EDIT: Revisiting this video a year later I see the opening compilation of people calling Fairy Tail the worst popular anime ever, and that's a funny statement in the universe where Sword Art Online exists. Yes, SAO is prettier, but Fairy Tail has all the good it has (fantasy setting, great action, fun concept) and more (actually good romance, some semblance of plot, vibrant characters and amazing emotional core) and also Fairy Tail lives up it its potential constantly. You don't have to like Fairy Tail, but calling it the worst popular show is a reach with a stretch. I'm also not gonna call SAO that, because I bet there are series I would hate much more if I watched them, and also my hatered for this series is multiplied because I was disappointed.
I like that you said that. It's funny to think that Hiro Mashima can keep working on his mangas the way he wants it, even if people say they are bad. And the fact that he is going strong with his third series says a lot, because other authors with more reputation sometimes are unable to make a new series (looking at you Kishimoto).

He does learn from his mistakes and from criticism, he just doesn't let it in the way of doing what he enjoys. So much heart and love went into Fairy Tail, that I can't call it bad because of repetitive plot or the power fantasy. It's good because the author loved working on it.
I’ve always love fairy tail, my friend introduced me to it. It wasn’t my first anime I was obsessed with us to the point where I can recite about Word for Word of almost every episode. Recently I have gotten back into it it’s just something I keep coming back to. It will always be one of my favorites.

GMG is an awesome arc because your adrenaline is pumping the whole time (even the swimsuit one) and it is sooo satisfying. The only thing that really bummed me out was not being able to see a proper fight between Laxus, Orga and Jura since it was subtly hyped through any fight involving them. (The whole Sting made sense to me as a character moment since he should be ashamed of himself up until this point and it was only after this his character changed for the best)
I honestly didnt know how much people hated it until after i finished watching it, it really suprised me lol. And i already watched many other good anime before it, this show will forever be in my heart :)

IDKHQ 4 same. What bothers me though, is that people complain about the plot armor. It’s really the only thing wrong with the anime, at least in my eyes. Also, people complain it’s a copy of One piece! Look at Pokémon and Digimon! Digimon is a complete rip off, and no one seems to care!
I just realized that during the parade natsu's arm cast is positioned in a way that allows him to also do the hand sign. Which either means that he purposely asked for it to be that way when they were putting it on or he forced his thumb and finger out of the cast so he could make the hand gesture.

I have come to the conclusion that hating "Fairy Tail" is just a trend. It has much less flaws than many of the more popular anime and since people just want to fit in they automatically agree even when they haven't watched it to formulate their own opinions. It is an amazing anime which quickly became one of my favorite and actually rekindled my love for anime. I can't wait for "The Hundred Year Quest" to be released.
In regards to flaws, it has more flaws than some of the new manga\anime but yeah, in comparison to what he had at the time, Fairy Tail has less plot holes than Naruto and a more consistent emotional\history narrative than Bleach, the biggest problem with Fair Tail is just some Deus Ex Machina(Jellal Golden Flames) and the "Power of Friendship", which I think people made worser than it actually is, since most of those moment go along VERY WELL with the emotional narrative of the show
About Natsu's "random power boost" in the jellal arc, it makes perfect sense to me that he'd be able to do this. Dragonslayer magic users get power from eating things, Natsu is literally surrounded by pure energy, it makes sense that eating said energy would give him a huge boost of power. This isn't a "random power boost", this is something he could always do being used in a creative way.
Plus in said fight he got a *SEVERE* initial kickback from said power boost if I remember right. He gambled his life just to help Erza and it payed off with spectacular results. The show has its flaws (especially in season 3) but overall it hit me where it most mattered. The freaking feels.

btw this vid made me go back to watch fairy tail, which I had seen before when I was 16. I'm 24 now and revisiting has been so much fun! currently on episode 92 and I've been having a blast despite things that are obviously not the best with it. doesn't make it any less good of a show though, if that's any indication by me being almost 100 episodes in. it really is such a feel-good show, I watch it when I get home from work now to unwind!

I never went through that because I like listening to Todd Habekorn, Natsu is fucking awesome, and also the story was always beautiful to me. Even when I was ten. Yes I know now that I shouldn't have been watching Fairy Tail at ten but hey I chose to and do not regret it.

@@natsuthebold5533 well unlike you I went through two of the first stages, I always defended fairy tail all the way up to the last season saying stuff like “fairy tail is good it has a great story, good pacing, character development, nice world building, meaningful messages, and good fights. I also said the last season was going to be great, I watched the last season and found my self disappointed, after seeing what happened and how it happened in the war I could no longer defend fairy tail. The show tried to establish the stakes are high and they could lose everything and they did a good job at first with grandpa dying because he was like a father to them his death would be impactful and be something they have to get through together, but they said fuck the stakes and brought him back at the end making one think (was there any stakes to begin with) and that made the fighting feel less meaningful like it wasn’t even a war just a hard fought battle. It made it seem like every other big fight in the show which just destroyed the whole feeling.

Another problem natsu one shotted agnalogia after all five of them couldn’t beat them but once he uses their powers too with his and then somehow manages to one tap is absolutely unbelievable (again their combined forces weren’t able to beat him yet natsu got a funny power up and won)

Fairy tail’s biggest issue was the involvement of editors and it’s pandering to the audience it cultivated. Hearing mashima speak about the process of drafting and drawing a chapter, and looking at all the early foreshadowing, it was so obvious Mashima had bigger ambitions for the plot but was told by editors “people like erza and natsu, just make them win with freindshippy speeches”.
I see what you mean because even though they show or explained how they beat against there foes, the amount of attention people put on these lines make them look bad.

The best written characters in the series were definitely Zeref, August, Mavis and Jellal for me. They had the best writing of them all, and why they were the way they were. Fairy Tail Zero got me crying like crazy, especially at the end. Lucy and Gray, as well as Midnight are written very good as well. While Natsu is an amazing character, there's not much depth to his character on why he is the way he is, it's just his personality. Michelle in my opinion also had good writing.

@@earthsadmin5707 Natsu was a lovable character, so lack of writing in his character basis was well covered up with his behavior and actions. It really not something that can ruin the show for you unless you disliked something else too. He was pretty op in the final season but his character in previous arcs especially him literally crying, a character like NATSU crying after being overwhelmed with Gildarts power was too powerful and well written.
To Me Fairytail is more than just an anime. It is my second home. Every single person in the guild has Given me something i will cherish for a lifetime. Has helped me grow to be a kinder and more open and understanding person. As well as accepting ME for WHO I AM flaws and all. And Truly was the first one to teach me to stay werid fam. Honestly you just have to find out for urself if you dont understand. Then i would without a doubt suggest u give it a chance. I finally got around to watching this video and its underrated as hell this is such a great retrospective on a shonen that i feel doesn't get enough credit
Tartaros, Grand Magic Games, and Tenrou Island are my favorite arcs. Tenrou Island can be switched with Tower of Heaven or Oracion Seis on some days. I used to dislike the Edolas arc but over time and rewatch, I’ve grown to appreciate it for all the details you gave. Fairy Tail as a whole, I loved since my first viewing and couldn’t understand the hatred for it. I watch it for pure fun and it’s characters!
I decided to re-read Fairy Tail for the first time in almost a decade and it's definitely more endearing than I remember. I'd say the strongest part of the whole series is the cast. Most of the members of Fairy Tail are likeable and interesting. The early arcs are also pretty good, pacing and plot progression-wise. However, I find that the series takes a huge dip in quality around the Sirius Island arc. The fan service becomes way more egregious and in your face. The power scaling begins to veer uncontrollably into inconsistent territory, and I find Mavis, Zeref, and Acnologia to be really poorly used characters, which is unfortunate because of how prominent they are during this half of the story. Overall, I'd say Fairy Tail's flaws can definitely be over-exaggerated and there's nothing wrong with liking it, I do after all, but it's flaws are prominent enough to keep it from being up there with some of my favorite series'.

Each time I watch the Arc with the Fairy Tail Guild I cry half the times during their times of hardship through tough enemies only to finally beat them at the end but with different ending twists.

Natsu and Gajeel not being able to pass through Freed’s enchantments because of the Eclipse gate sending them forward 400 years is some INSANE foreshadowing.
But is it because they are technically 400 years old? Or because they have dragons in them that are ACTUALLY super old? I will never know

my fav bit of foreshadowing is a easily missable moment. theres a gang a bandits that natsu and the others come across in the first few episodes (im not sure which exact one) and one of the bandits is a fortune teller. he tells gray he'll have great trouble with women and water in the future.

Natsu eating Laxus' lightning never seemed out of place to me as it's explained early that he attempted it before and it made him sick. Like any sickness I figured he would have gotten a resistance after attempting it. That would allow him to use it for a short time. At least, that's what I thought.
I figured if he was eating it in small batches, he could use the HEAT of the lightning as a quick- not good- substitute for fire, in a pinch, like he most often is when he uses lightning-fire dragon magics.

To be fair, in terms of the "Power of Friendship" thing, doesn't Natsu's Fire Dragon-Slayer Magic get stronger the more emotional or passionate he gets? I feel like this was confirmed and I feel people HEAVILY ignore that. Like, maybe with other characters that makes the argument meh, but I feel like most of the arguments come from fights with Natsu winning randomly.

It's the exact same shit. Having a "power of friendship" being canon and it explaining Natsu winning doesn't make his wins better. In fact this makes absolutely no sense because most of the time he loses badly his situation was still extremely dire. That's a terrible excuse and it's still extremely inconsistent.
@@Wyllowisp I mean, during his fight with Jellal, you can tell he was more angry in that scene than he had been prior in the series, and eating the shit meant to kill him probably also could be explained as "the pain from that experience caused his body to react accordingly and allow his rage to build even further", which in the end might have subsided the pain entirely. It isn't explained, and the only real bad part is that it isn't, but if you take into account that people have used pain to fuel their power before in certain stories, and how Natsu's power relies on his emotions, it isn't TOO out of the question that he would do that just to get more angry. The power of friendship makes no sense because "having friends" is not a power boost. That can act as a motivation but not a boost, which a lot of series that use that don't take into account. But Natsu's fire burns hotter the more passionate he gets. Thematically with the element of fire, it makes sense. Fire is commonly associated with passion.

Its still badly written and your explanations are more headcanon because Mashima literally said the reason he wrote fairy tail the way it is because he purely wanted a simple wholesome story after feeling down about Rave Masters. In other words, its an author intent without anymore thought put into it.
Did he perhaps wrote at some point in concept something along the lines of "Natsu is a very passionate person and is reflected by his fire magic and usual salamander attire"? likely yes sure but there is no in universe law that says "Natsu's flames gets a powerup the moment he becomes even more passionate" like this is nen from HxH or Binding Vows from JJK. For Fairy Tail, its purely fluff and at times, poorly build up metaphors
I'm a huge sucker for the "reformed villains" trope. It always got me hella excited when Gajeel, Laxas, Sting (etc) eventually join the good guys team, especially when they are toeing up against whatever the newest baddies are.

A lot of what Mashima does is to just please everyone which can't be done. For a series to be great all around. And the fact there is a near endless amount of possible arcs is also another can of worms. After all it leaked that Lisanna was removed after toxicity among Nali and NaLu shippers got too intense and Mashima kinda just got cold feet on the former. That and the fact that in a certain arc Mashima brought back Lisanna cause his like HR person for his manga team like requested. Essentially Lisanna wasn't even suppose to be in the post GmG arcs. Which is why her lines post GmG's are so just awkward and don't fit the plot muchless the shipping that some fans were obsessed over.
Instead Mashima went with the latter ship as most NaLu shipping went without a problem. Not to mention fans had already made not only a ship name but came up with the Fairy Tail Next generations name for the NALU paring. Something that NaLi fans seemed to completely miss while shipping NaLi. Essentially NaLu fit what Mashima was planning just about perfectly and thats why in the last few arcs and even the eclipse arc. NaLu got pushed so heavily.

The only thing I found wrong with this was the overlooking of Gray and Juvia's relationship and how much they cared for one another. Their fight in the Alvarez arc had so much more meaning, when Gray says to Juvia that he could never hurt her and how he wanted to protect her, it came from a place of love that wasn't like the love he has for the rest of his guildmates. Juvia has been the one person to truly understand him and help him. In the time skip after Tartaros they lived together in that cottage she was at and he left for that job to infiltrate Avatar, didn't mention it to protect her. He killed himself in that moment because he couldn't bring himself to kill the one person who saved him from the darkness just as he had saved her from the rain. Juvia freeing his father from keys had a lot more meaning to it for him than her just helping him. Like I get it if you don't like the ship nor their dynamic but this just brushed off their relationship and how deeply they love each other. They don't just randomly become a thing in the end.
What keeps me from getting behind the ship is Juvia’s obsessive nature. If she learned to respect Gray’s boundaries and realized how uncomfortable he is with her advances, that would be great. But even after he reciprocates, her obsession remains intact, which continues to rub me the wrong way. It’s because of that it dampens the tender moments between them for me.
I just hate the trope of an obsessive character getting what they want without moving past that unhealthy part of themselves. It carelessly gives off the impression that if you keep pushing, eventually the object of your attraction will give in. Such behavior is scary af if it were to happen to someone in real life, so for it to be romanticized unsettles me.

Growing up with undiagnosed autism and an increasing interest for anime that had me isolated from my peers and relatives, Fairy Tail held a major part in my life. People automatically assumed my silence to be disinterest and or complete shut down, but when my older cousin noticed the show over my shoulder and pointed out her interest in the show, I could not stop talking, finally allowing a sort of relief with not being alone and she entertained me, understanding the love one can have towards the show and only pushing me to decide to myself that I really simply liked Fairy Tail. It’s understandable that people wouldn’t find the series to be very deep or including any real notable content to it, but it’s a show that holds close to a lot of people, a lot finding friends and community in a series that hammers into that very thought of companionship. It’s an amazing series and I hope that many people would still be able to find themselves watching it despite the flaws surrounding it and the hivemind dictating it to be bad.
I don't consider myself to be an "emotional guy". I'm not saying I don't appreciate moments that are supposed to be heart felt or gut wrenching, but I've never been a guy that actually tears up very easily. However, I have no problem admitting that Fairy Tail flat out *broke me* at points: Lucy breaking down at Makarov reinforcing to her that she is a member of their family, Erza's scream of anguish after Simon dies in her arms, Lucy's reaction to reading the final letter her dad wrote for her during her 7 year absence, Gray breaking down and thanking Juvia for saving his dad, Gajeel's confession to Levy, and the list goes on. This show made me care deeply for its characters, to the point I was more so emotionally invested in the struggles they faced rather than just being interested in how they overcame the physical threats in their way. For comparison, Dragon Ball is a lot of fun to watch in a "mindless action" kind of way, but nothing in that show has any real stakes because of the existence of the dragon balls themselves. I don't care about Majin Vegeta killing all the people at the World Tournament because it's all undone in a matter of hours, but Jellal killing Simon while possessed by Ultear is something he has to live with for the rest of his life and I sympathize with him because of that.
Fairy Tail has some issues, not even the staunchest of defenders will ever deny that. However, claiming something has flaws is not synonymous with it being "bad". And while there are things about Fairy Tail that bug me, I will always say it's still a great show because what it does do well it does phenomenally. Sure, Erza should have been obliterated when she came between Gray and E.N.D.'s killing blows, but her tears being what restores Natsu's broken mind and her hugging them both while telling them how much she loves them is a moment that tugs at my heart strings so much that it's easy for me not to care that it doesn't make sense. (at least on a surface level, you can play some mental gymnastics to make it make sense but at face value yeah it's absolutely ridiculous)

I got addicted to Fairy Tail because it has some kind of mystery that give a cheer and warm feeling to me and made me feel like I'm a member of the guild and taught me the concept of friendship that no other anime has ever done and probably never will. The haters just don't wanna give much time to fairy tail and rant it because of the female character's bodies but I see their bright and cheerful personality and that makes me happy!

You know I was really hoping when they made the Fairy Tail game it would be one where you make your own character to actually join Fairy Tail and be your own mage. But I'm told it's just the show turned into a game, but also it is Fairy Tails first game (I think) so if it does good maybe we'll get more.
@@demetriusprime1505 Oh they did that already! Sadly, like several other games, it wasn't released overseas. I forgot the title, but you could customize your own character. Downside is that it was move weapon-based than using other kinds of magic. I guess they wanted your character to be unique rather than copying someone else but it wasn't that good. Then again, it was a psp game. It was fun interacting with the character though!
I watched a good chunk of fairy tail. The first few arcs, all the way up to the end of Erza's arc was exactly as you described, but after that it fell off hard for me, and by the magic tournament I disliked the show and hated it for ruining its initial promise and having me sink so much time into it. Though, If you had the same experience all the way through then that's good and I'm happy for you.
With the exception of Makarov's ressurection I actually don't mind the ending. Yes closing the story on Zeref and Mavis ascending to the afterlife would be a stronger end but ultimately the one we got works. Because it has Lucy doing something clever and everyone else chipping in to help pull it off and it has Natsu getting a boost from those in the fight with him to finish off the bad guy. It's quintessential Fairy Tail. Also I like that it's not just Natsu beat Acnologia - it's that Acnologia has a moment of clarity and realises how far off his original goal he's gotten but being unable to stop himself so the Dragon Slayers do it for him. It parallels Acnologia and Zeref nicely and I like that Mashima did that for his two big villains.
Honestly, the moment we found out about Zeref's past and his true intentions, I was rooting for him. I wanted him to win, to create his perfect world, even if it would mean Fairy Tail and the others would lose. He's such a tragic character, and while I know he ended up getting what he wanted in a sense(AKA: dying), I just wish he got the ending HE wanted. I honestly wish we got like, a non-canon spin off chapter thing of the scenario of if that was the case, but as far as I'm aware, we never did.

To me, Fairy Tail gives off “Saturday Cartoon” vibes which isn’t a bad thing. I really enjoyed it when I was younger. Honestly, once you’re a veteran of anime, or have experienced many different genres and styles, it’s harder to be impressed by shows you haven’t seen yet. The common anime tropes we find annoying become much more apparent.

As far as Saturday morning cartoon shows would go, Fairy Tail is pretty fucking good. I'm not gonna pretend that it is high art, even among other shounen like One Piece or Fullmetal Alchemist, but there are WAYYYYY worse shows to like than Fairy Tail. Fairy Tail at its best makes me feel nostalgic for the days when I watched DBZ and Naruto as a kid, and at worst, it is just mediocre shlock. But, is that really so bad?

Wendy Marvell is my favorite character that I connected to on a personal level.
Initially, she’s presented as what one might take for the stereotype of a Shojo Manga protagonist: unsure of herself, sniveling and overly emotional. In their first encounter with the Oracion Seis, she has a near panic attack and kicking herself for not soldiering through it. However, what seems like a quirk turns out to be something more.
Like with Natsu and Gajeel, Wendy’s dragon disappeared. This is something she took hard, wandering around in tears before finding who she thought to be Jellal. Yet just when she thought she had somebody to fill the void, her “Jellal” dumps her at the phony Cait Shelter due to more pressing matters. And that’s before Cait Shelter turns out to have been Magical Projections, more friend who disappear after Nirvana’s been dealt with.
There’s a particular moment that hits hard when she begs to know what she did wrong. It felt like Grandiene leaving her all over again, something she blamed on herself. Was she unworthy of being a Dragon Slayer? Did Jellal not like her? Why? This struggle with abandonment issues ties in with her low sense of self-worth.
She’s quick to come down on herself for thing she couldn’t help and feels a constant need to prove herself as not a burden. When Raven Tail nullifies her Magic and forces her to miss day one of the Grand Magic Games, she sobs for letting others down even if nobody else blames her.
I legit always think, “Hey, it’s gonna be okay…” softly out of connection to the character. Sure, she’s a cute little girl ala the likes of Eri yet I feel a sense of, “I’d take a bullet for her” in a “I relate to her emotional turmoil too much” kind of feeling. She can handle herself but need the right encouragement.

Honestly the only shipping fandom with little toxicity is Ace Attorney, and that's only because nobody argues against WrightWorth.
From my experience, most fans (including myself) fully recognize the series flaws and just don't care. Someone could rant to me about how much it sucks and my response would be: "Ok, and?"

Fairy Tail was one of my first animes ever and it made me fall in love with the genre. The characters were so well written that I literally cried when the manga ended. The story progression and development felt natural and not forced, the characters felt human in their emotions, the magic system was thought out, etc. I even went on a rant in defense of Lucy when people were calling her a "weak" character.
In the manga chapter of Sting vs Fairy Tail, I'm pretty sure it mentions how overwhelming the aura is. How strong the Fairy Tail wizards appear to be, despite how injured they were
Thank you for this. I never necessarily needed validation in my love for fairy tail but knowing there are others out there in my camp puts a smile on my face. Fairy Tail is what happens when an anime doesn't lie to you about what it is. It never gave you any illusions, from the start ot let you know it was a story of the power of friendship and finding your own family.... and also busty women. But truly it just doesn't try to edge lord it's tropes. One of the most honest anime ever.
Honestly, Fairy Tail is the perfect example of what shonen is. It's got over-the-top action, eccentric characters, friends throwing hands because reasons, tragic backstories, the power of friendship, and bonkers plots. But most of all, the heroes never lose and nobody effing dies unless it's a bad guy getting beaten by another bad guy.
It's not perfect, but it's a good first shonen anime.

An aspect that is never appreciated by those who are so critical of Fairy Tail is the fact that the story felt planned. You see frequent, seemingly insignificant details early on that eventually play out in later arcs. So many of manga/anime out there are clearly written week by week and it shows with the constant retconning and, most noticeably, drastic dips in pacing. Fairy Tail never slowed down, it rarely took breaks and would frequently give readers more than the usual 19 page/week entertainment whereas a bunch of series slow down and drag the story out cause the author don't really know where to take the story.

and its because of what you said that the shows quality drops over time. the fairy tail is the classic case of giving importance to the predetermined destination rather than the journey overall which opens a fck ton of loopholes,inconsistencies and awful story telling.
mashima had a vision of natsu fighting the final boss acknologia and win without even thinking on process on how would he be able to do it. honestly, fairy tail had great potential and its groundwork from the start is solid that despite negative criticism it lasted longer than it would have.

One of my favourites and really showcases Natsu as a absolutely phenominal main character and Lucy as one of the greatest shoe hustlers of all time. the story of August to me was honestly insanely depressing. I was so very sad to know that Mavis never knew of her son, and that August was never able to form a familial bond with his parents. It really made me sad and kind of left a hole in my heart.

I had the same problem. I loved the anime when I watched it, but due to not watching it in years I was questioning weather it was really good. In sort I re-watched it, and I still do love it with all my heart because its amazing.

For real though I'm glad that Black Clover just barely avoided the same hate train Fairy Tail got. Even as someone who generally disliked FT, the fanbase did *not* deserve this kinda treatment in the anime community.
I mostly blame the anime adaptation tbh, since it really doesn’t do the art and fights from the manga justice.

Black Clover still got a bit of it though. Although it's not ENTIRELY undeserved considering just how much filler they crammed in at the very start, like holy shit. There's also the fact that Astas Japanese VA was super grating on the ears in the beginning, especially when he was yelling words and other stuff. To be fair though his voice actor DID improve quite a bit some time later, although his voice in the beginning still makes me want to end it at all with just how annoying and rough on the ears it can be at certain points.
@@dantethewanderer4989 I don't think that's the franchise's fault though. The original manga is really snappy and quickly-paced in the beginning, it's just that the anime made some, ehm... *unique* creative choices in its first run-- some of which I'd argue actually enhanced the story (like showing Asta and Yuno training, which helped better bridge the gap between chapters 1 and 2).
Gakuto Kaijiwara was a relatively new VA at the time, and it's clear he was still finding his bearings in the very beginning. But I give Studio Pierot a massive amount of respect for bringing on fresh, new talent for their series protagonist, instead of just grabbing a bunch of A-list actors like most other anime studios do. He's actually quite the talented voice actor, and an *incredible* singer, and it makes me proud to see how well BC was able to kickstart his own career path.
I think the whole "Asta screams constantly" meme was blown *way* out of proportion, and it's clear that Kaijiwara put a ton of passion into the character... which just makes it all the more obnoxious when people take that low-hanging fruit.
@@NerdMiGerd Oh, no, I get it. I'm just saying that the series had a bit of a rough start, not terrible just a bit rough. I just think that its "first impression" for anime only people wasn't quite as strong as it needed to be for it to avoid the screams of "they RUINED it!" from the beginning. Black Clover, in my opinion, needed its first few episodes to just be a BIT stronger, with a bit less filler that stretches out the first few manga chapters, in order for people to get hooked in and not have them assume the anime had pacing problems from the very start. I think I remember THAT being one of the biggest criticisms of the show at the start although I will admit that I was burnt out on "I wanna be the #1 Hero/Pirate King/Hokage/etc..." anime schtick, and started to watch something else pretty soon after. I do know Black Clover HAS improved, based on what I've heard from others, but its start was a bit rough in my opinion and didn't quite manage to find its footing right out of the gate.
I DO respect the hell out of Asta as a character for training his body in order to get physically stronger, and getting a ripped as fuck as a result of said training. I honestly respect him WAY more for that than most other Shōnen protagonists sheerly because he wasn't just sitting on his fucking laurels before the series started.
I remember watching Fairy Tail as a teen, and the thing that really stuck with me was that feeling of belonging and comfort, something about the atmosphere and comedy had me laughing out loud like i was part of their crew. It's definetly got flaws, so many other anime do aspects of this show so much better, but the style and heart of this show is something quite special. And just to add damn the ost is good, i love how they used traditional folk sounds and intruments to make such fun music that really fits the tone and style of the show.
you put into words exactly how I feel. fairy tail made me happy, it made me feel emotions no other anime managed to. nowadays everyone looks for some difficult plot or quality storytelling that they forget the fun about anime. Watching fairy tail was the greatest experience for me and I think its one of the best shows out there.

After watching this entire video, I just sat on my chair and started to cry. This was a very well made video and it has brought me so many great memories of the show. Even with all its flaws, it still holds a very special place in my heart.

Same, I had this really cool Chinese teacher who liked anime but when I asked him if he liked Fairy Tail, he just said it was trash so I never mentioned it again TT. I don't understand why people hate it so much.
Imo most of the backlash it faces is either people a) judging it for not being things it clearly never tried to be (like the idea that a series as uninterested in world-building as Fairy Tail is somehow trying to copy One Piece- a series whose whole premise and selling point is the exploration of its large scale and intricate world- because idk, Guildarts kinda looks like Shanks lmao), and b) trying to broadcast how "superior" their taste in anime is because shitting on it is popular among that insecure "I'll have you know I have a very exquisite taste and only the deepest of stories are capable of entertaining my 200 IQ giga brain" crowd.
The essence of Fairy Tail are the wholesome relationships between the lovable characters and I'm really tired of people acting like its wholesomeness and cheesiness are a bug rather than a feature. It doesn't need a deep, intricate plot. It doesn't need to do things no one has seen before. It doesn't need to be a grimdark angstfest where people die left and right and everything is comically terrible. If that's what you want instead of cheese, go find series that are actually trying to do those things without putting down series that very clearly aren’t. There's a time and place for Fairy Tail as it is.

Try not to cry during a Fairy Tail arc challenge: Failed spectacularly.
One fight you sort of skipped over (dont worry there's a lot so it makes sense) was Mira vs the paper lady. It was our first and I think only time, where we saw Mira Jane fight all out. It's a fight I watch over and over again because im just awe struck with how powerful she could be but chooses to hide it.

@@emmalion1976 oh, actually that was one of my least favourit (if you mean Edolas), my favourite was either the dragon king festival with all the guilds competing against each other showing off various powers while also FT raising up from the underdog status to the #1 guild in Fiore, or, tartarus arc, since those fights were just amazing. The last season was pretty okay, since many things got the resolution, from various relationships finally happening to many wizards finally reaching the S rank or at least the level of one (from Lucy with her stardress, to Wendy with her being able to use dragon force really easy)
to be fair nux's brain just has "big boobies hehe peepee poopoo" on repeat 24/7 so not surprising he likes fairy tail
The ending wasn't bad, it was rushed. They needed at least another 6 episodes to stretch out the fight between the dragon slayers and Achnologia and for them to say their goodbyes. I think them not having enough time made the ending not quite as impactful
yea i really wish they didnt rush it i see no point in them doing that the last episode was so overwhelming it almost felt ridiculous to me. too much was happening in a short amount of time was very disappointed im always optimistic about fairy tail it's a great anime but the ending was definitely a letdown.

I'm going to be honest with you, I watched this video expecting to hate it but then you reminded me the moments that made me love this series, mainly Wendy's reveal of her guild people behind a lie, I remember how that broke my heart back then and how I even used that as an example of solipsism in a presentation I had in school.
That day my classmates were really happy because that was the only exciting exposicition they got that day xD
Man, I hated working on that thing, it took me too long to understand what solipsism was.
Anyway, I'm not done with the video but I almost cried at that part, too sad I ended up hating the series because of future characters, interactions, fanservice, and for characters like Natsu never developing as people, and Happy getting worse and worse as a character.
One thing I love is how amazing this show is, I always watch shows and movies with a open mind, and considering this isn’t the first anime I watched it’s a wonder that it’s one of my favourites, honestly it’s in my top three. But this show is amazing and it really does pull you in and makes you really care about the characters. I was legit crying at a lot of the heart renching scenes in this anime, and in my book if a anime or movie can elicit a physical emotion from me then it is never going to be topped.
I am still under the impression that if someone truly hates Fairy Tail, they just don’t like having fun.

Did I just finish a 3hr retrospective about Fairy Tail even though I've rewatched the series 3 times and am currently on my 4th rewatch? Yes, yes I did. Did I enjoy every moment of it? Hell yeah. Will I probably watch this again in a couple months? Probably. Fairy Tail is one hell of a drug and this video flawlessly expressed WHY I love this series so much, it really is unlike any anime I've seen before. I still can't finish the final episode to this day because of how much this series means to me, Fairy Tail has quite literally been with me through thick and thin and by finishing the anime I feel as if I'm closing a chapter in my life. Thank you for this video, it really means alot to not only me but all the other Fairy Tail fans who come across this masterpiece.

I'm really glad to see this video, Fairytail was my first anime and I remember loving it so god damn much! You can't sleep on the fact that all the characters are just so fun! There's a reason we sit through hundreds of episodes: the dynamic between all these silly characters is so entertaining at its lightest and so emotionally investing at its deepest.

Bruh I legit said something like this back when I was still watching it, I was like I know the plot is not the best but the characters just feel so quirky and alive, and their chemistry is what makes me keep on watching it is the primary reason I watch. It almost makes u feel at home

Maybe it was the lack of social media use or because I was surrounded by fellow fans but I never hid my love for FT. I was never scared of being ostracized and I’m glad i was able to get the full experience of loving this anime.
Looking back on all these emotional moments is honestly getting me teary eyed. I feel like it doesn't matter what age I am, fairy tail will always have a special place in my heart. It's my comfort show

FT wasn't my first anime, but it was my gateway anime. I remember watching it as a kid and it was super fun and I enjoyed it a lot! Of course now as an adult I can definitely recognize all the flaws in the show, I never really cared for all the fan service or how Lucy always felt like she was more of a reaction character then action one (and she was so whiney sometimes), among other things. BUT I will say that I still get that sense of childlike enjoyment when I rewatch the show. Is it messy and definitely not perfect? Yeah of course it is, but it always feels nice when I return to it.

Really? Cause from my experience and interactions with others they hype her up to an annoying extent.

Whenever someone says Fairy Tail is terrible, I say "Yes. And I love it so much." It rarely happens that a series that is really bad in many places brings me such joy instead of constant frustration. And I think that's art within itself.
EDIT: Revisiting this video a year later I see the opening compilation of people calling Fairy Tail the worst popular anime ever, and that's a funny statement in the universe where Sword Art Online exists. Yes, SAO is prettier, but Fairy Tail has all the good it has (fantasy setting, great action, fun concept) and more (actually good romance, some semblance of plot, vibrant characters and amazing emotional core) and also Fairy Tail lives up it its potential constantly. You don't have to like Fairy Tail, but calling it the worst popular show is a reach with a stretch. I'm also not gonna call SAO that, because I bet there are series I would hate much more if I watched them, and also my hatered for this series is multiplied because I was disappointed.

I like that you said that. It's funny to think that Hiro Mashima can keep working on his mangas the way he wants it, even if people say they are bad. And the fact that he is going strong with his third series says a lot, because other authors with more reputation sometimes are unable to make a new series (looking at you Kishimoto).

He does learn from his mistakes and from criticism, he just doesn't let it in the way of doing what he enjoys. So much heart and love went into Fairy Tail, that I can't call it bad because of repetitive plot or the power fantasy. It's good because the author loved working on it.

Cant believe i actually watched a whole 3 hour long video, but i as able to watch it because thats how much i love Fairy Tail
GMG is an awesome arc because your adrenaline is pumping the whole time (even the swimsuit one) and it is sooo satisfying. The only thing that really bummed me out was not being able to see a proper fight between Laxus, Orga and Jura since it was subtly hyped through any fight involving them. (The whole Sting made sense to me as a character moment since he should be ashamed of himself up until this point and it was only after this his character changed for the best)
I honestly didnt know how much people hated it until after i finished watching it, it really suprised me lol. And i already watched many other good anime before it, this show will forever be in my heart :)

IDKHQ 4 same. What bothers me though, is that people complain about the plot armor. It’s really the only thing wrong with the anime, at least in my eyes. Also, people complain it’s a copy of One piece! Look at Pokémon and Digimon! Digimon is a complete rip off, and no one seems to care!
I just realized that during the parade natsu's arm cast is positioned in a way that allows him to also do the hand sign. Which either means that he purposely asked for it to be that way when they were putting it on or he forced his thumb and finger out of the cast so he could make the hand gesture.
Knowing Natsu, it was the latter.

I have come to the conclusion that hating "Fairy Tail" is just a trend. It has much less flaws than many of the more popular anime and since people just want to fit in they automatically agree even when they haven't watched it to formulate their own opinions. It is an amazing anime which quickly became one of my favorite and actually rekindled my love for anime. I can't wait for "The Hundred Year Quest" to be released.

In regards to flaws, it has more flaws than some of the new manga\anime but yeah, in comparison to what he had at the time, Fairy Tail has less plot holes than Naruto and a more consistent emotional\history narrative than Bleach, the biggest problem with Fair Tail is just some Deus Ex Machina(Jellal Golden Flames) and the "Power of Friendship", which I think people made worser than it actually is, since most of those moment go along VERY WELL with the emotional narrative of the show
About Natsu's "random power boost" in the jellal arc, it makes perfect sense to me that he'd be able to do this. Dragonslayer magic users get power from eating things, Natsu is literally surrounded by pure energy, it makes sense that eating said energy would give him a huge boost of power. This isn't a "random power boost", this is something he could always do being used in a creative way.

Plus in said fight he got a *SEVERE* initial kickback from said power boost if I remember right. He gambled his life just to help Erza and it payed off with spectacular results. The show has its flaws (especially in season 3) but overall it hit me where it most mattered. The freaking feels.

@@2percentskills274 from what i understand dragon ball does the same thing with goku getting power boosts cause he wouldnt be able to beat the villian otherwise
but for some reason people say its an amazing anime but fairy tail is not because of one power up which was explained even though goku has like what 5 6 of them

btw this vid made me go back to watch fairy tail, which I had seen before when I was 16. I'm 24 now and revisiting has been so much fun! currently on episode 92 and I've been having a blast despite things that are obviously not the best with it. doesn't make it any less good of a show though, if that's any indication by me being almost 100 episodes in. it really is such a feel-good show, I watch it when I get home from work now to unwind!

I never went through that because I like listening to Todd Habekorn, Natsu is fucking awesome, and also the story was always beautiful to me. Even when I was ten. Yes I know now that I shouldn't have been watching Fairy Tail at ten but hey I chose to and do not regret it.
@@natsuthebold5533 todd haberkorn was such a good casting decision, natsu couldn't have been voiced by anyone else. one thing that i think fairy tail doesn't get enough props for is it's amazing dub cast.

@@natsuthebold5533 well unlike you I went through two of the first stages, I always defended fairy tail all the way up to the last season saying stuff like “fairy tail is good it has a great story, good pacing, character development, nice world building, meaningful messages, and good fights. I also said the last season was going to be great, I watched the last season and found my self disappointed, after seeing what happened and how it happened in the war I could no longer defend fairy tail. The show tried to establish the stakes are high and they could lose everything and they did a good job at first with grandpa dying because he was like a father to them his death would be impactful and be something they have to get through together, but they said fuck the stakes and brought him back at the end making one think (was there any stakes to begin with) and that made the fighting feel less meaningful like it wasn’t even a war just a hard fought battle. It made it seem like every other big fight in the show which just destroyed the whole feeling.

Another problem natsu one shotted agnalogia after all five of them couldn’t beat them but once he uses their powers too with his and then somehow manages to one tap is absolutely unbelievable (again their combined forces weren’t able to beat him yet natsu got a funny power up and won)

LINA BERRY same fairy tail helped me cope with depression and I just have an emotional attachment to this anime, so I'm getting the fairy tail emblem tattooed on my arm

Fairy tail’s biggest issue was the involvement of editors and it’s pandering to the audience it cultivated. Hearing mashima speak about the process of drafting and drawing a chapter, and looking at all the early foreshadowing, it was so obvious Mashima had bigger ambitions for the plot but was told by editors “people like erza and natsu, just make them win with freindshippy speeches”.
I see what you mean because even though they show or explained how they beat against there foes, the amount of attention people put on these lines make them look bad.
Watched this when you first released it, and went ahead an rewatched this after feeling Fairy Tail nostalgia. So good! I'm gonna go ahead and rewatch Fairy Tail now, see ya!
The best written characters in the series were definitely Zeref, August, Mavis and Jellal for me. They had the best writing of them all, and why they were the way they were. Fairy Tail Zero got me crying like crazy, especially at the end. Lucy and Gray, as well as Midnight are written very good as well. While Natsu is an amazing character, there's not much depth to his character on why he is the way he is, it's just his personality. Michelle in my opinion also had good writing.

@@earthsadmin5707 Natsu was a lovable character, so lack of writing in his character basis was well covered up with his behavior and actions. It really not something that can ruin the show for you unless you disliked something else too. He was pretty op in the final season but his character in previous arcs especially him literally crying, a character like NATSU crying after being overwhelmed with Gildarts power was too powerful and well written.
Ultear, Jellal, and Zeref, are hand down some of the best written anime villains ive ever seen
To Me Fairytail is more than just an anime. It is my second home. Every single person in the guild has Given me something i will cherish for a lifetime. Has helped me grow to be a kinder and more open and understanding person. As well as accepting ME for WHO I AM flaws and all. And Truly was the first one to teach me to stay werid fam. Honestly you just have to find out for urself if you dont understand. Then i would without a doubt suggest u give it a chance. BECAUSE OUR GUILD IS TRULY SOMETHING OUT OF A FAIRYTAIL(pun intended) something people search their whole lives for. Something made from a wish. A wish of unconditional acceptance, love, and the power to overcome the impossible because one person is weak but together we are strong. NOT A Single anime is perfect or doesn't have some kinds of flaws or weaknesses. Just like LIFE! People make fun of the power of friendship but IF THE POWER OF BONDS HAD THAT MUCH POWER HERE AND NOW.....nobody would dare hate. People only hate what they dont understand. The truth is everyone that loves fairytail and considers it THEIR GUILD is like an alt version Fairytail. Just like edolas. No matter what anyone says I WILL ALWAYS BE A PROUD MEMBER OF FAIRYTAIL! I realize i dont know everyone who also feels the same. i probably never will but just like nuxanor rose up and inspired a guy he probably never meet to make a 3 HOUR VIDEO. Tartaros, Grand Magic Games, and Tenrou Island are my favorite arcs. Tenrou Island can be switched with Tower of Heaven or Oracion Seis on some days. I used to dislike the Edolas arc but over time and rewatch, I’ve grown to appreciate it for all the details you gave. Fairy Tail as a whole, I loved since my first viewing and couldn’t understand the hatred for it. I watch it for pure fun and it’s characters!
I decided to re-read Fairy Tail for the first time in almost a decade and it's definitely more endearing than I remember. I'd say the strongest part of the whole series is the cast. Most of the members of Fairy Tail are likeable and interesting. The early arcs are also pretty good, pacing and plot progression-wise. However, I find that the series takes a huge dip in quality around the Sirius Island arc. The fan service becomes way more egregious and in your face. The power scaling begins to veer uncontrollably into inconsistent territory, and I find Mavis, Zeref, and Acnologia to be really poorly used characters, which is unfortunate because of how prominent they are during this half of the story. Overall, I'd say Fairy Tail's flaws can definitely be over-exaggerated and there's nothing wrong with liking it, I do after all, but it's flaws are prominent enough to keep it from being up there with some of my favorite series'.
