  • i guess this is me accepting that the new academic year is almost upon us. i would’ve loved to be able to find an advice video from a law student before i started university so i thought i’d make one incase anyone feels the same. i can’t believe i’m now about to go into my final year because in some ways i can vividly remember applying to university. that journey seems like yesterday as it’s just whizzed by.
    good luck to everyone who has gotten into law school and is starting in september! despite what people say, law school/law at university is a blast! i hope this video enables you to feel a little more confident or prepared before entering this new chapter in your life. all the best, see you next week …

    I start law in September at uni and this video has been extremely useful in deciding what to pre-read. A video that would be really useful is how you organise all of your uni work, into folders and how you categorise your work x

      I'm so happy it was helpful! Funny you should mention that bc I was thinking about doing a video around this topic this afternoon. consider it added to the list! best of luck for september!

    Hiya! I was wondering if you had read any of Helena Kennedy’s books? I really loved Eve Was Shamed and just admire her in general lol.

      Hi! I've read 'Eve was Framed' as it was recommended to me by my philosophy of law lecturer. It was really great, I definitely want to read more of her work.

    I’m in the process of writing my personal statement. If I was to read one of those books, which one would be the most suitable to reference in my ps?

    • @ChelsieAngeles
      @ChelsieAngeles  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In my opinion, any would be suitable to reference. in your ps, you just need to show that you've researched the law, you know what it entails and that you're committed to it, which you can show by referencing any of the books.

    What are your hobbies? I’m curious as to know what sort of thing I’d be able to fit in around a law degree.

      Hi, gosh i do all sorts! I have my TH-cam channel (which is about 10-15 hours a week), i exercise pretty regularly (5 hours a week), do a series of online marketing/ambassador jobs (5 hours a week) plus the usual going out, reading, travelling etc. I do fit quite a lot in but I'm a bit of a workaholic! 😂 generally most people can fit in a few societies or a position on a committee. it all just depends on how much work you want to do for your degree and how much you want to do on top. i wouldn't worry about not having time because there's definitely plenty, it's all about being organised!

    Did you do any volunteering during the summer before year 13? Did it help your application for york? I want to apply there but I'm scared that I dont have enough volunteering

      I wouldn't say that York Law School asks for or requires any work experience. it just helps to have it when you're talking in interviews or applications. I applied to hundreds (not an exaggeration) of solicitors firms and got nothing. the only work experience i did pre uni was 6 months before i started uni so it was after my interview and application etc. my advice would be: if you want to apply to york then go for it! best of luck!

    Would you suggest getting working at a firm first year and if so is that an internship or just a normal job?

    • @ChelsieAngeles
      @ChelsieAngeles  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd recommend getting as much work experience as soon as possible. How you do that is up to you. The more experience and knowledge you have, the more you will stand out in second/third year when everyone is applying for the same vacation schemes/training contracts.

    What do I have to study if I don’t want to be a lawyer but rather a judge

    • @ChelsieAngeles
      @ChelsieAngeles  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      in the UK, you need to become a lawyer - whether barrister or solicitor - before later being appointed as a judge.

    Very late comment but honestly Legal Cheek (the comments, not the articles on there) has put me off pursuing a legal career.
    For example, though the volume of recent Eve Cornwell articles are a bit mad, the overwhelming opinion in the comments that she's a 'thot' etc annoys me. It seems this is extended to any girl who has some sort of social prescence along getting a TC with a respectable firm. I've only just came to your channel but are you also considering not doing a career in law after your degree?

    • @ChelsieAngeles
      @ChelsieAngeles  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a shame this has put you off. But i know what you mean, there can be a lot of negativity within the industry. Although, I don't think this is necessarily law specific.
      Yes, I don't want to do law. I'm planning on doing a medicine degree after my masters!

      @@ChelsieAngeles This was legit me but I ended up applying for law and going durham in September. Grad medicine not an option for me unless I get a bucket load of money, but still on a potential wishlist. It's super hard to get into but you seem hardworking and dedicated! Best of luck xx
