Lots of people don’t know this, but in some continuities in Transformers lore, Transformers aren’t always given the ability to transform from their built. They require an attachment known as a T-Cog that gets place into their chest, and give them the ability to transform.
G1 had them not transform till like the first civil war. Autobots invented that to have the upper hand on the Decepticons, who then stole it and made things balanced.
The only thing I know is the spark wasn't a thing until beast wars but then it got put into the overall lore? Right?
I'm thinking this might actually be trying to draw from the comic lore and everything, the massive extensive super verse that is Transformers.
@@ArlanKels Pretty much. I barely remember the concept of spark till Beast Wars talked about it. Then got stuck to everything. Like the Allspark being the life force of the Transformers, while before it was Vector Sigma or the Matrix of Creation (which I believe it was the Matrix of Leadership)

Animated and Beast Wars need to be in the poll too, they’re better shows.
They didn’t stick to the status quo to a frustrating degree, kill characters suddenly because they couldn’t afford their voice actors anymore, introduce several plots that got resolved in one episode despite lengthy build up, introduce plots out of nowhere, have two clip shows in a season, have a Megatron that made stupid blundering decisions one after another, have an over reliance on relic hunts only to barely ever use the relics collected, break the “when we kill a character, we kill a character” rule for Bee and Megatron, refuse to give us any meaningful character development for Optimus who is portrayed as a bore.
I was there for the show’s run from 2010-2013 and I remember how the show took a massive nosedive in Season 2 and started punishing me and others for giving the show a chance to get better. Animated and Beast Wars weren’t perfect either, but their flaws aren’t anywhere as bad as Prime.

Transformers Prime is S-tier, definitely worth watching.
People are upset that Chris Hemsworth is voicing a younger Optimus prime, but you need to remember this is not Optimus prime yet. Back in the original G1 cartoon Orion Pax didn’t sound like how he sounds as Optimus now. He was a normal librarian with a normal voice until Alpha Trion repaired him with the Matrix Leadership and then he got that powerful iconic voice that we know now. Maybe in the end part of the movie will see his voice change to Peter Cullen’s when he gets the matrix.
It is also important to say that Chris worked under Cullen guide for this.
My problem with it its not about having dif. voice actor, its more about that voice actor being Chris H. If you wanted "teenage" optimus voice i dont think Chris-s voice works well for that and on top of it he is too recognizable - i just hear "Thor". If you wanted new voice just let profes. voice actor do their job - you dont need to allw. put big name actors in movies like this. And having big star voice its like double-edged sword, yeah you might lure more ppl bec of him, but you also need to pay that kind of actor lot more money.

the "One" said in the trailer sounds VERY Cullen 👍🏻. And, not to be that nerd, actually in that g1 episode he's not even a librarian/data-clerk. He's a dock-worker essentially!

Just my honest opinion, Transformers Prime is pretty meh and disappointing. I think they'll have a better time watching other series like Beast Wars or Animated.

@@iRoboticGaming I mean this is just my opinion. These are some of the complaints that I have.
For starters, the show kept setting up potentially interesting story arcs, but then dropping them off at the last minute. Some notable ones begin with Breakdown potentially turning over a new leaf, but then after getting rescued by Bulkhead from Mech, the show just forgets about him and then gets axed off by Airachnid. Or how like with Optimus dying in season 3 and Smokescreen becoming a Prime and possibly becoming the new leader, there was so much potential in that, but they wasted it imo. The majority of the plot relies too heavily on collecting relics that just so happen to be on Earth as well. The show just seems so scared of taking risks. Like just when you think something big is gonna happen or change, some bs plot convenience will come out of nowhere to save the writers from actually trying. I still like TFP, but it's just not as good as some folks make it out to be.
Not only that, but the world is SO EMPTY. If the scene doesn't take place in either of the Cybertronians' headquarters, then it's either in a desert, cave, dark forest, or the North Pole. With the occasional military base and an empty harbor.
Oh and I absolutely despise Miko.
I would be happy with either Prime or Animated
Hate how most people only know transformers from the Michael Bay movies. The lore and the world goes wayy deeper and is much darker than most people give it credit for.
Literally. Most of the people complaining it's not gritty are dark don't realize most of the Easter eggs and lore here are from the animated shows and comics

Watching the 1980’s cartoon as a kid was really something special to me, and this looks really good! Hope they pull it off properly

I grew up with the G1 stuff, watched Beast Wars, and have seen all the newer films. This looks like a ton of fun and I can’t wait to take my kid who is jazzed after seeing this trailer. We have to quit taking these properties so seriously and like they’re some kind of sacred thing to where we just want the same thing over and over again.

Wait… so you have to know the lore of something to get hyped about it? They tell you in the trailer that he used to be Orion Pax before he was Optimus Prime. Even in the Bay movies they say he was made into a Prime and that’s a title.

Especially since they clearly don't know anything about the material and are still being so harsh. they're usually better than that. Also if Rick thought that was the worse trailer he clearly never saw the one for society of magical negros. God that trailer made me cringe

Yes, bee being mute was good for the bayverse it made him unique but now it's just kinda annoying, him losing his voice in almost ever project. Altho in animation Optimus should keep his mask on, as Orion I'm ok with it.

Transformers Prime would be a fantastic show for you guys to react to. Ontop of just being amazing all around it’s also great for catching up on some of the Transformers backstory lore
Makes sense to make it an animated movie because Transformers fans have been asking for a movie that was just Transformers and no humans. It's cool that they're focusing on Orion Pax and Megatronus who were friends before they became Optimus Prime and Megatron but it is weird to me that they don't know how to transform and are given the ability like they're Power Rangers to overthrow their Quintesson overlords and free the Cybertronians.

I just want to see Megatron’s dedication to Cybertron slowly become radical over the movie. Like maybe he does something morally wrong but behind Orion’s back and because he felt it was for the right reasons.
They didn't originally transform. They only transformed after the first Civil War which autobots invented the t-cog and then the deceptions stole it.
What that is, is they're given quite literally a vital component they should have always had. T-Cogs.
Transformers are typically born with a Transformation cog in their chest at birth, the characters in this seem to have empty chests which gives the idea that their T Cogs were extracted from them since the were born, maybe because of their place in the Cybertronian caste society under Quintesson rule?
Orion Pax, is pre Matrix.
Its like how Hot Rod, became Rodomous Prime, after gaining the Matrix of Leadership.

I wont underestimate it. I remember the first guardians of the galaxy trailer and people I knew didn't care for it until they saw the whole movie, which is now considered great.
I thought Optimus was a lorekeeper and Megatron was a gladiator, so making them waste workers surprised me. But it does look fun.
And people who have seen scenes from the movie say that it IS a quite serious and dark movie. This first trailer just focuses on more fun elements

Technically they've had different occupations. Optimus (then Orion) has been a dock worker, an archivist/data clerk/librarian, a cop, a politician (maybe??), a leader of a Space bridge crew. Megatron (then D-16) has consistently been a miner before becoming a gladiator and taking the name Megatronus.
It changes depending on continuity.
Every version of transformers has a wildly different backstory for them, stop trying to cling onto one.
Yup people that saw the clip at Cinemacon said the movie is more serious than the trailer shows and even the directors said the trailer was like this to show how much fun they had, and that the future trailers will show the stakes.
As for Pax and Megs it varies on the continuity. Most of the time it is that but sometimes it isn’t like in G1 or even say Earthspark where it seems Pax was some kind of miner or something.

I dont get why people are upset about this. It looks amazing, designs are faithful and vibrant, story sounds fun and engaging and maybe even tense, and the voice actors do an amazing job. People are only upset that its celebrities, not if theyre actually good or not. If the voice clips of Optimus going "we stand here together as one" was Chris doing his Optimus voice, then im all about this. Its controversial, but if it came down to it, Id be happy with Chris taking on the mantle of the new Optimus Voice

@@InsightLegacy we haven't heard him as "Megatron" yet. We've only heard his pre voice. Optimiss voice changes a bit in the trailer from his transition, so we might get a better voice when it releases
@drag0nemper0r97 Chris worked with petter Cullen and he already has a similar tone and voice as Orion. Where d16 sounds just like his actors voice. He's a comedic actor I'm sorry but it's a massive miscast. Benedict cumberbatch would of been better

Man, I used to know the entire continuity of Transformers lore (their creators, planet, wars, names, etc) and I just realized I dont remember much of it.

The Transformation Cog or T-Cog is an device/organ that transformers need in order to transform and access other components built into their bodies, like weapons. This has been around since the orignal cartoon and later expanded on in comics.
Optimus Prime being Orion Pax in an earlier life has been around since the original cartoon. What he did has flipped from either a factory/dock worker or a data clerk.
D-16 as Megatron came about in IDW comics. D-16 is an homage to Megatron's toy packaging in the Japanesse market before Hasbro repurposed it. He was either a energon miner, gladiator, somtimes both. He was friends with Orion Pax on their shared belief that the current government was corrupt. Both had differing ideas on how to correct the injustice. None of this was in any cartoon before Transformers Prime.
Elita-One is the pink bot. She had a similar orign to Optimus in the original cartoon being called Ariel. We'll see if the movie touches on that.
I know he’s dead but imagine Kevin Conroy’s Batman voice as a younger Optimus Prime.

D-16 was the Takara designation of Megatron's original action figure, a few continuities before now have used it for his original name.
Orion Pax has been Optimus' pre-Prime name since "War Dawn" an episode from the second series from the original series. A few iterations used the name Optronix instead, but since the mid 00s if Optimus original name is mentioned at all, it's been Orion Pax.
The backlash from some corners of the internet have been something else. "They're making it feel like Toy Story!" Uhhhhhhhhhh...........

When you realize that the transformers are literally thousands of years old then it’s fine with me.

Us grown-ups, the hardcore fans loved this saga, toys and all for 40 years.
When this was announced, we were expecting something close to the Cybertron scenes of Bumblebee (2018) or the War for Cybertron series from Netflix (2020-2021).
But then i thought of something while watching the trailer.
Many kids-oriented original series of Transformers have pushed things along for a younger audience (TF:Animated, TF:Prime, TF:Rescuebots, etc).
Now we have an animated feature film on that same level exist.
Parents who are fans of Transformers and have kids or kids who like Transformers will wanna see this one.
As much as we were expecting something else, this isn't really a bad thing.
I am so very excited for this. It feels like it was made by people who grew up loving the show like I did.

There have several different Transformers cartoons throughout the last 40 years and a plethora of movies and comics. People like Transformers and have been wanting another animated theatrical movie for years. That’s who this is for.
I understand their lack of enthusiasm, they’re not big transformers fans, but it really feels like they set themselves up for disappointment with this one. Part of the risk that comes with these blind reactions

What’s funny is a lot of the newer, but not newest Transformers shows are in the same timeline. Transformers Prime, Rescue Bots and Robots in Disguise are all connected
The Aligned Continuity officially ended in 2021 when they did a big launch of a few comics. Right now, Transformers is in a bit of a nebulous space as far as continuity is concerned.

Prime was also roughly related to the games as well especially with the nemesis being trypticon which is more of a background easter egg in prime
@zexalplays628 I get where they were going for with the aligned continuity, but I don't know why they were trying so hard to tie in the High Moon games with Transformers Prime when a lot of stuff doesn't line up.
@@anispidey I think for the most part it was just ensuring certain things stay the same. Bumblebee becoming mute, Megatron being a gladiator, Unicron being the Earth, etc.

Oh Yeah, getting into really deep lore, giving people who might never see the backstories in comics a digestible version. Learning about Cybertronian society before the Great War separated Autobots from Decepticons, about Transformer biology, like Transformation Cogs, and how the best of friends can become the most hated of nemeses. Plus it's clear that the Quintessons will be part of the story as well, which is cool because they need more spotlight as antagonists

When will you guys react to Rise of the Beasts? -Hello there I've watched one or two shot-by-shot breakdowns of this trailer and while I wasn't too keen on it at first I am now warming to its potential Look guys, I think if you knew the lore you would enjoy this. If the lore went off the original series and Transformers Prime (which you should really watch) then this would take place more than 12 million years before they came to Earth. Megatron and Optimus were good friends, but their ideologies split them and they became enemies. Transformers Prime digs into this. I believe this first movie should show Cybertron in its prime before The Great War and how Optimus and Megatron came to be who they are now, The second movie should show the war between them and their struggle while Cybertron is dying, And the third and final movie should be an attempt to end the war and where the Transformers leave Cybertron to go to Earth 2 I'm really wondering what studio executive decided "I know what the Transformers franchise needs...WACKY COMEDY! It worked great for The Predator!" Right off the bat, the crew blinded themselves. Netflix's Transformers: This movie looks amazing both visually and story-wise because I like the approach they’re going with, Origin stories on characters and their home Cybertron. The only thing that doesn’t quite sit right with me is some of the character's voices and some of their personalities. Some of their voices don’t really match the type of characters they are and some of their personalities seem out of character. I know this is supposed to be a story before everyone got serious and had to be a factor of war, but some characters' charisma doesn’t suit the type of character that they are that we all know to heart. Bumblebee seems too hyperactive, Optimus seems like the troublemaker, And Megatron seems like he’s the good one who tries to talk him out of it. I always wanted a Transformers Movie that is just fully animated but I would have liked it in that style more of the Bumblebee movie like when they were on Cybertron...But I will give this a chance, the animation still looks good...I don't think it is gonna be a blockbuster or anything but I think I'll still enjoy it with my little brother... And if this leads to more Transformer Movies without humans, I am down for that...
Transformers Prime was 2010-2013. Transformers: War for Cybertron was series of Netflix movies that ran in July 2020, December 2020, and July 2021. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts released last year and leads into the upcoming GI Joe X Transformers Movie.
War for Cybertron was also the name of the game made by High Moon Studios in 2010. Honestly, that would also be a cool sorta intro to some Transformers lore too imo.

@@anispidey Could be because I didn't play too many games that were the same but in different consoles, but I was super surprised when the first Cybertron game is different deppending if it's on DS, Wii and Xbox; for me that looked like a lot of care.

Yes and even the director says it'll be a good fun beginning but it'll get more serious the more it goes on cause obviously this is before the way and we see the war at the end. It'll be sad with Orion and D-16 not being friends
I’m with Aaron, there are plenty of objectively worse trailers it’s just that Rick A) Forgets they exist because they’re just that bad or B) Likes watching bad things so he thinks they’re good for how bad they are.

@@TheKnight886 it’s my opinion cry I’ve only seen the live action movies I’m not some elitist who will call it trash because it’s not the same as some cartoons from decades ago .
I've watched one or two shot-by-shot breakdowns of this trailer and while I wasn't too keen on it at first I am now warming to its potential. The humour presented in the trailer isn't my cup of tea but I am looking forward to the Professor X/Magneto-esque split that is being set up between Orion Pax/Optimus Prime and D-16/Megatron. There's a ton of storytelling gold to be mined there.
Yeah, the news + the creators talking about the movie is really building up some hype for me. A lot of great potential, for sure.
Will say tho, pretty sad the crew seems to not be on board with this one at all. only Aaron seems to be interested

Based on the director's comments, they have the story mapped out and this is part one of that, as the tile says. I would not be surprised if the second one is the Empire Strikes Back of this movie series, where D-16 or Megatronus becomes Megatron and turns on Optimus. The footage they showed at CinemaCon gave more context to the trailer.
I bet you all that they're gonna eat their words later when they see this. Especially Eric. The lukewarm feedback to this movie is ridiculous.
We were so close, I was really hoping for a cybertron movie in the same style they showed in the beginning of Bumblebee
Could be that if this goes well they try it, emphasis on could. It seems to be the first not-super-realistic Transformers movie that is completly 3D animation.
It's interesting that we're getting to see Optimus' and Megatron's friendship before they split into the Autobots and Decepticons. I feel they're hiding the more serious parts of the story for the movie itself.
As an original fan I have been waiting for this full story since the beginning. There has been an episode or two on how Megatron and Optimus happened but this is a longer story and we get to see Cybertron before the war and destruction. This is part of the lore but I am sure they will change it up a bit. Also, this is considered cannon with the new movies.
Look guys, i think if you knew the lore you would enjoy this. If the lore went off the original series and Transformers Prime (which you should really watch) then this would take place more then 12 million years before they came to earth. Megatron and Optimus were good friends, but their ideologies split them and they became enemies. Transformers Prime digs into this. The series was Emmy Award winning and Peter Cullen and Frank Welker who did the original Optimus and Megatron reprise their voices respectively. It's only 3 seasons long but I think you guys would appreciate it and learn something.
Tbh, it takes a lot of lore of previous series and stories, so did the director stated.
This is for me to take my nephews to go watch. It looks like the old school transformers fun.

As a Trasnformers fan who knows the general lore of the Cybertronian-Golden age, I think it's cool that they're making this.
This trailer feels like it was made to be as generic as possible but i cant help but want to see everything that this movie has cause its so rarely covered in transformers

Honestly I can see why the idea of an animated Cybertron story would be attractive to people who haven't been liking the recent films or isn't even a Transformers fan at all, coming from someone who only ever enjoyed Transformers Prime.
The main thing that is off-putting for me though, and this could just be due to the trailer itself and not the film as Rick mentioned, is that it kind of feels like a very surface level Hollywood animated film. Visually, it doesn't seem to be doing much unique, but I won't be too quick to judge in that regard. Dialogue wise though it just feels kind of generic and like a "kids movie."
I pretty sure this is aimed at a younger audience (and their parents who were fans in the 80's)
I'm sold purely on the promise of Quintessons being a thing in a transformers story again.

As a big Blind Wave fan and HUGE Transformers nerd I uh, kinda don't get who keeps having them watch Transformers trailers when they pop up. They don't seem particularly interested, like, ever...? And that's fine! But like, why bother?

Strongly recommend transformers prime reaction. That does go into additional origins of them, plus in trailer there is a spider transformer named blackarachnea that is also in prime.
Plus Peter Cullen AND frank welker, original voices of prime and megatron is in the show too as their characters.
I’m personally really excited for this! And I am seeing a lot of story beats from the lore so I am interested in what they do with that. I for one love the animation. However I do see some of the criticism too.
Tho I see the overly comedic factor moreso as a result of the trailer and marketing strategy instead of the final product of the movie. Look at kung fu panda, we all know how deep, mature and traumatic that story can be, but it was definitely marketed more similarly to this trailer despite that fact, choosing to focus on its goofy antics, sense of adventure, and comedy. With that, and some story beats they seem to be using from the lore, I’m not really going to go into those for potential spoilers, I think this movie will have a lot of mature tones and themes befitting a transformers story and respectful of its source material. That I believe that the cinema con saw a clip of the movie and they remark that it had a lot more mature tones too. So I’m hopeful.
You guys should watch Transformers: Animated. It was designed by Derrick J. Wyatt who also worked heavily on Ben 10 and Teen Titans!

I believe so cause many others seem to be able to transform. My theory is that is kinda like the senate does something and those who don't have are treated as the lower cast cause they see them as useless.
