"Gender" and biological sex have become interchangeable. It was originally trans-sexual, not trans-gender. The changes in words might be subtle but the meaning is very significant.

@MrRody365 - I don't believe the term "transexual" was used as a slur, at least not by the majority of the population. What seems to have been the case, as far as I can tell, is that the LGBT+ community just decided the term "transgender" was more fashionable, no doubt in an effort to garner attention.

Because post-modernists want to have people accept their agenda, they've basically taken two words that mean the same thing and tried to make them different. The argument of "gender" vs "sex" is a distinction without a difference.

Well it is because it isn’t about your biology but about how you feel. Gender and sex are different which is why you must agree that a transgender person is whatever sex they want to be. The greatest logic ever

    • @goldengryphon
      @goldengryphon 5 ปีที่แล้ว +32

There is some logic behind what your professor said. Since sociology is a study of people in large groups, and there is no logic behind their behavior, there no logic in the study of them. People in large groups (for various definitions of 'large') tend to behave in ways that seem illogical and irrational at times. In fact, you should never under-estimate the stupidity of what people in large groups tend to do. Common sense doesn't apply to sociological studies, so your professor was right.
That doesn't mean that common sense isn't important. Just that you shouldn't use it to try to understand or predict what groups of people have done / will do. All the jokes about committees, human interactions, and Parkinson's Laws have strong basis in the reality of given situations.

    • @synonymrolls8531
      @synonymrolls8531 5 ปีที่แล้ว +18

You literally can't use "common sense", though, you need to rely on the data.

    • @goldengryphon
      @goldengryphon 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@synonymrolls8531 The larger the group, the more likely there will be extremist behavior or behavior tending towards violence? That's about all that's predictable with groups of people; "macro-sociology", if you will.
The data tells us that people in groups behave badly. The lower the socio-economic environment, the more likely they are to trend towards increasing violence, and the more likely that violence will involve looting, burning, and as the group gains momentum, violence towards individuals instead of property. I've always found it amusing that people who riot tend to do so in their own neighborhoods. That means that the damage the group will do will be towards themselves. *That* is counter-intuitive, could not be truly based on empirical data, and is a fairly recent (for the world-wide society) evolution.
So the data got updated. That doesn't help anyone to plan for the next large riot, other than we now can see the signs that one is trying to form and act head it off early. So, you're still using common sense, but in reverse. I. e. What would be the stupidest thing people could do to protest something they think is unfair or that they want more economic opportunities? Well, I would never try to destroy where a large percentage of my friends work, nor would I be likely to burn my own home down. Quick! Call the fire department and have them get ready! (?)

That just means I like cars, just because something is more popular in a certain gender doesn’t make it gender specific. There’s no stick shift car out there that won’t allow a women to drive it just because the automotive field is male dominated. I think this idea comes from a warping of the desire for equality. Saying man and women are basically the same, might make it easier for the genders to be treated with equal respect.
However, the difference in nature, behaviour, etc. doesn't mean a difference in value. Toddlers obviously act differently than adults, but both lives have value.

    • @curtismrasmussen
      @curtismrasmussen 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

That's the lie of Postmodernism. Postmodernism advocates against objective truth and is designed to deconstruct any/all hierarchies. There's no objective truth. Everything is just a "social construct", and no single social construct should have more say or power than another (take that to its logical conclusion and you can see that even the source of this kind of argument loses its power to be worthwhile and important...it's just a social construct itself).
So in a time when the left advocates that there is no truth other than what a person feels or "is" by their choice/feelings, we have this kind of "beach ball under the water" idiocy.
But, Postmodernism doesn't stop there; it goes a step further. You can do and be whatever you want without any consequence. The thing is that if what/who we are are just social constructs and no one view or piece of logic or document can have any greater sway or importance to create/enforce law then what will the law of the land be? Who gets to decide? Which identity group gets to have "top predator" power? The answer, taken to it's logical conclusion is, it and who will be decided by the most powerful Postmodernists with the most control over minds and weapons. The left deludes itself by a false hope of a social utopia of limitless compassion and free love. Meanwhile there are corrupt and cunning people who see this as an opportunity to grab power in order to destroy traditional morality and the people who believe in it.
There might have been (and still might be) a societal desire to create equality due to a perceived imbalance between men and women, but today that movement's egalitarian goals have been replaced by Leftists goals to get power enforce a new "anything goes as long as I say it goes" morality.

@@janechai6878 Which idea? The latest version of Feminism?
No one I've had a chance to speak with - male, female, a wild assortment of societal beginnings, sub-cultural groups, and assorted educational backgrounds - denies that if the standards for a particular job, that doesn't *require* a specific body part to do said job, are set and the person offering the job doesn't change the requirements for one sex or the other (If you have to be able to carry a 120 pound dummy down a ladder to be a fireperson, there shouldn't be any firepeople who can't do that aspect of the job, etc); then yes, we are all agreed that there should be equal opportunities. However, women (read female activists and/or 'feminists') have this annoying tendency to demand that job requirements be changed so that they can have 'equal representation'.
No. If I need any First Responder for any reason, I want to be assured that the people who show up are capable of doing the job for which they are paid and for which I called them. If I need a doctor, I want to be assured that any doctor I might find will have at least met certain minimum standards that apply equally to all doctors. It *should* be the same for any profession. If you need a high school education and the ability to stand for 8 hours a day, people who do not have that level of education or are unable to stand should not be trying to get that job. *That* is equality.
If you want to do any job, you have to be able to meet at least the minimum standards, not some weakened version presented by people claiming that one section of society is under-represented and that the minimum standards should be changed, but only for that group. That's *not* equality, that's putting people at risk and giving people a greater sense of dissatisfaction with those people trying to do something for which they are not capable. That plays into the spoken belief that "Xsubsection is just not good enough to do Yjob by the original standards; so instead of trying to meet the standards, they changed the standards to meet them" and that is what tends to cause problems about specific circumstances.
So, yeah. As long as you don't need a certain body part to do a thing (no matter what that thing happens to be), and are otherwise qualified by a set of standards, there should be no problems with equal opportunity. I'd feel better about the process if sex, race, and politics were taken out of the equation completely. If you can do the job, great! If you can't? See what's necessary and either change yourself or choose a different path.

@@janechai6878 IF I UNDERSTOOD you correctly (I may not and you probably agree with what I'm going to say, but I'll say it anyway just for the opportunity to use what Jordan calls the Divine skill of articulating words haha) might I ask where today are women not given a chance for pretty much any job or opportunity (except in the military)? I'm sincere in asking that. From what I have been able to discern through study and analysis of music, medicine, finance, management, counseling, manufacturing, sports, etc., there is massive evidence that women HAVE equal opportunity.
But, let's take sports on for a moment. I've heard complaints from feminists that women don't get equal time on TV. Okay, so, in that instance let's consider what drives higher TV time: Entertainment value and advertising dollars. If there's inequality there then it comes down to whether or not female athletes and sports leagues meet the minimum requirement set by the viewers: eyeballs. Nobody can force viewers to turn on women's basketball, softball, etc.
Or take medicine, in particular physicians. I've heard feminists complain that female doctors (who today account for 1/3 of all doctors) don't get equal opportunity or pay. However, the idea that a doctor makes more because he is a male is absurd. What opportunity and pay boils down to in medicine seems to be: (1) the level of their training (2) where they got trained (3) their quality scores (4) their production (5) their effectiveness in billing/collecting. The biggest differentiation I've been able to find in these five areas is that women score high on the first three and the last on the fourth one. Turns out that they put in roughly 20% fewer hours (or 11 fewer hours per week which, depending on the specialty, is a full day missing). This seems to derive from work-family conflict. That's not a problem of the field of medicine, practices or hospitals, though.
The argument that Jordan makes clear is that he (along with pretty much everyone in the western world) is 100% on board with equal opportunity. He also asks very hard questions (elsewhere) about the unequal distribution of women in highly dangerous areas such as war and dirty industries where men bear the brunt of the effort.
But, equal outcomes seems to dependent on the individual and the context, and, frankly if a person (a woman in particular) believes that she is putting the same amount of effort, quantity and quality, that she has equal education and skill, but that she isn't getting equal outcomes, she should pursue that through the proper legal channels. In those instances I am ABSOLUTELY certain that most people on the left and right would agree that something is wrong.
But, like I said, I may have missed your point.

Here are some actual facts and knowledge. Our gender doesn’t determine your personality! But it does effect us mentally, and the brains of a male and females are different in ways that doesn’t determine much except managing hormones and body type and reproductive ability, and small bits of behavior, but nothing to the extent of there sexual life or enjoyment of certain hobbies!
So if the brain for men and women are different, doesn’t that prove that trans gender people exist? And it’s not because of genetics, but how the baby is built in the womb. Certain areas are flooded with testosterone to change the baby’s gender to male, because up until that point, the baby was developing as a female. Some parts may get too much or not enough testosterone which leads to some strange effects, which includes being trans. These are all pretty rare and there actually aren’t that many trans people out there.
Because of this development, certain gender specific parts of the brain can be one gender, and another part another, or no gender or all! Because of this, so many different varieties are created such as demi, trans, or all different kinds of non-binary.
Again, this is rare, but it does happen often enough for people with this condition to be harassed, beat, and drove to suicide.
There is no “cure” for it, and it doesn’t hurt anyone so there doesn’t need to be, but we should instead makes these people feel comfortable and not treat them like freaks because of who they are! They’re not hurting anybody! And denying there existence is wrong!
Boom! Science and common sense! Hope somebody learned something.

Yes, men and women are different, but I think the points he brought up are extremely generalized and not entirely accurate.
For instance, I cannot think of a single man that would not feel uncomfortable being touched on the leg by a stranger. Yes, a woman will probably feel more uncomfortable being touched by a stranger than a man would. But this is because women feel afraid and threatened because they can be easily overpowered, raped, and have their lives completely and permanently altered by pregnancy. Men, on the other hand, can feel confident in defending themselves and also cannot get pregnant.
Thus, the implications and potential consequences of a man being touched vs a woman being touched by a stranger are vastly different. If a woman was able to physically defend herself against a man (without weapons) and have full control over her ability to get pregnant, I think there would be little difference between the two genders in this situation.
I think these same factors also contribute to the genders' different perspectives and needs when it comes to sex. A woman has to be very selective because sex can completely and permanently change her life. If a man is not competent, supportive, and committed to the family he's created, she's screwed. The differences don't stem from emotions, they stem from the different risks and consequences thanks to the inconvenient realities of biology.
Also, it's not worth much, but I personally hated pink and Barbies and played the same way as boys when I was a child. I'm probably in a minority, though. Really, I wish both sides would stop pushing for genders to be certain ways and just let them follow their natural inclinations.

Lol so you'd be happy if your parents tried brain washing you to think you're a boy for playing like a boy? And sex still makes an emotional connection which is why the selectivity was pointed out by you and the video's speaker. Females have to be pickey because if the guy doesn't get emotionally connected as you stated by wanting to provide and succeed for his family, there's negative consequences. And the fear of being overpowered is hardly the fear if a leg is touched. It's the fear of knowing there's no connection to the person touching the leg. So thats why you fear their intention which you equate to fearing "being over powered". Which is a lie because if it was a strange woman touching a woman's leg, what's the fear? They both have a woman's strength.

Yes! Like, hmmm, maybe I, a guy, don’t like being touched inappropriately, and many girls enjoy casual sex. You wanna know why? Because your gender doesn’t determine your personality!

@Kai Orion They still keep to the concepts of traditional male and traditional female. That's actually how they define themselves as 'Other than cis-binary'.
That's one of the big things that the trans community does - the actual trans community and not the trans-trenders. Trans people are changing themselves from one sex to another. They are uncomfortable with the body they have and try to make themselves more comfortable by "changing the body to fit the mind". Once they reach a place where they are satisfied with the changes they have made, they stop. Technically speaking, they are no longer trans as they are now in a body that 'fits' them, whether it's male or female.

If you look at my old toy box, it's filled with action figures, Beyblades, nerf guns, and the occasional horse figurine. Gray matter is responsible for cognitive abilities, emotions, decisions, hand eye coordination and abstract thought.
This is why there are a tonne more male engineers, mathematicians, architects, scientists etc.
For every 13 Male mathematicians there is only a single Female mathematician. In STEM fields (Science Tech Engineering and Maths) It's 25 Males for every 1 Female.
They've forced Women into those fields and they end up getting depressed because they cannot comprehend or ingest the information they're receiving if you will, and they end up dropping out whilst having to take anti-depressants.
Women aren't retarded. The average IQ between a Man and a Woman is near identical.

Anyone who actually studied gender psychology knows males and females are innately different (I'm a Psychology Major myself) but liberalism is all about saying one thing while knowing the opposite is true. "Simply put, men and women are different. They look different. They have different body parts. Different biology. Different hormones. They express emotions differently." This can all be true, but you have to show that these differences dominate the personalities and behaviors instead of other factors like the environment you're grown up in or genetic distinctions. And this has been the detail these videos from PragerU and other groups have lacked.

    • @alid6060

The studies have already been done. It has already proven there are feminine and masculine qualities innate to our genetic structure. Have you seen how many "transgender women" have threatened to beat up people that refuse to acknowledge them as women? That is their psychological aspect unique to their masculinity and proves what Prager U said in the video. They used a simple example regarding trucks so that people might understand. Giving complex thought processes to most individuals makes them tune out unless they are specifically looking for increased intellectual activity. That has also been proven. What astounds me is in psychology we are taught the differences between male and female brains and the differences between adult and child brains, yet many claim there is no difference and want us to change psychological therapies to match their beliefs. It is ludicrous.

Anecdotal experiences cannot disprove empirical evidence of gender-influenced behavior for centuries. Though it doesn't mean your experience is insignificant, it just means you're part of a minority of people that deviates from the common trend. Stereotypes exist for a reason, no matter how inaccurate they are today, it tells a lot how certain things are what they are. But don't let this thought stop you from going against the current, since I myself have some traits and behaviors that are deemed feminine to society.

    • @jaycampbell6402

      1) that a girl might not play war.
      2) That everybody fits traditional gender roles
      3) that we need to enforce gender roles
All three comments making those points are showing cognitive dissonance. Really, you people are making it clear that you cannot think critically. The whole point of the video is just to let kids be what they want to be without trying to have an agenda. It is making the point that when you try to force a kid to conform to adult expectations, it does not work in the long run. Obviously it is not advocating any form of trying to mold kids into traditional roles, it is saying let kids be and whatever happens in regards to gender, happens.

If you want your point to be heard and considered, you have to write for your audience. Your audience is these "Sociology and Gender Studies PhD's", NOT these people in the comments. And I am certain that PhDs know what the word "delusion" means. In fact, using that definition in this video is so condescending that anyone in your target audience would feel insulted and not want to listen anymore.
Simply put, if you want to change people's beliefs, you should try to respect them first.
This is a common problem among public leaders of thought, they put on a performance for those who already agree with them instead of attempting to convince others.

This is genuinely one of the most idiotic arguments I have seen on this website, and that's saying something.
He completely (probably intentionally) misstates the argument for relaxed ideals over gender and sexuality. People advocating for LGBTQ rights wouldn't say that men and women are "the same", they would agree with the list of differences at the beginning, but also state that those differences exist within every single INDIVIDUAL. He's saying it's ridiculous to suggest men and women are the same, while making the assumption that every man is the same as every other man, and the same for women, that's even more ridiculous. And the stories prove nothing, sure, some kids will act like we would expect children of their gender to act, but what if you gave a boy a truck and he tucked it into bed as if it were a child? There are clearly multitudes of young boys who would do that, what would Sean McDowell do then? Demand the boy start "acting like a boy"? How is that productive? He seems to (conveniently) forget that humans are individuals. Then he goes on to make sweeping statements about sex as if, again, everyone's experience with sex (one of the most complicated things we have to navigate as humans) is the same. Not to mention, if the traits of men and women are like a beachball and will always float back up, then why does anyone care? Wouldn't men just "act like men" and women "act like women"? He is literally a professor of philosophy and he couldn't come up with a better comparison? What an enormous asshole, I feel terrible for all of his students that have to listen to his BS.

He's not mistating anything. I remember my Sociology professor literally said that boys only play with boy toys and girls with girl toys because that's how they're socialized, that everything we find attractive is due to socialization, and everything we find funny is also due to socialization. Academia is full of maniacs who think we are complete blank slates.

    • @alectucker9439

@@Dennis-nc3vw Sociology is far from an exact science. Nobody knows how much of someone's personality is learned and how much is inherent to them, partially because it is very hard to study humans and every human is very different. If your sociology professor said that, then he was wrong to be so overconfident on something nobody really knows, but that does not mean that is the opinion of the majority. Not to mention, even if it was, that would still be a long way from "men and women are the same" which is what McDowell is arguing against. He misstates the argument in order to make it easier to attack, probably 80% of Prager U videos follow the same pattern.

@Maxsteel 42 It's easier to define the brain to a gender and the body to a sex. It also makes it easier to describe gender dysphoria which is why researchers use these terms.

Oh they definitely are different. As a woman who likes women there will be no way I could substitute a man into my relationships and be happy.
      However,
Doesn't mean that men or women should be limited to specific social roles or shamed for not comforming if the individual feels like they do not fit under that category.

I'm a girl and when I was little I always broke my dolls and then let my sister fix them. Yes women have more motherly tendencies but that doesn't mean that its all women should stick to. Even at a young age stereotypes are placed on young children that make them feel they have to act a certain way.

Or perhaps he is trying to return society to a time when men had unquestionable control over women.
The difference between "granny's" common sense and a graduate student's knowledge is decades of scientific research, tests and studies. What is common sense shifts with time and culture while scientific knowledge is only changed by facts. An example of this can be seen in that common sense isn't actually a universal thing. It changes in regards to where you are and when you are there. One example is that in some places it is common sense for women to cover up their entire bodies, when challenged the defenders of this says that it is to prevent them from tempting men and by covering up they prevent rapes.
Thats just common sense, do you agree with it?
