- My orchestral version of Hellfire from The Hunchback of Notre Dame
I think Frollo is one of the most complex villains in a Disney film. The first part of this with the celesta flute and strings I was thinking of a young Frollo.

Notre Dame Is Literally On Fire
Oh my god, this is SO beautiful.
It starts off so serene and angelic but slowly starts to get more sinister, and in the end you can feel the sheer desperation in the song.
This is not just a bombastic villain song where the villain revel in singing about their evil ways, but a cry of despair from a man who finally realizes that he is as wicked and depraved as they come, and he fears and hates himself for feeling that way..
Well, he hates her for this at first. He truly believes she is the devil, come to drive him in temptation. I don't know if you have ever read the novel, but that's it.
@robert. The song does capture his blame and hatred of her. But it absolutely does also show glimpses of insight, when he realises the problem lies inside HIM (not everyone else). Overall, the song (for a Disney song) is psychologically complex, and very dark.
He goes through wondering why he (as a supposed person of faith, which he considers 'superior' and 'stronger' than other people's faith), can't repel the temptation. He then tries blaming everyone and everything, but himself - the devil, Esmerelda, even God (who he professes to worship and have faith in), etc. He realises he personally doesn't have that 'superior' ability to avoid temptation after all - but he doesn't want to take any self-responsibility for it.
He kind of oscillates between blaming God, and trying to cling to faith again to 'save' him (such as appealing to the Virgin Mary for help). But despite all his attempts to put responsibility outside himself, he shows another glimpse of self-awareness (that HE himself may actually be evil, rather than just a 'victim'), towards the end.
His tone as he sings 'God have mercy on her, God have mercy on me', shows both empathy for Esmerelda - and crushing guilt. But ultimately, he then decides he's going through with the evil anyway. It's a song where he does seem to show awareness eventually, that he's got fault in this - but he's decided to indulge his own evil, rather than fight it.
Wow, very rarely do I find covers of this song nearly as chilling as the original. Well done.

My prefer character of "Notre-Dame de Paris". I have sung the song at the same time as the composition! I don't understand why this wonderful character is so forgotten in the collective memory.
Maybe because it's only an adaptation of the character among many others. The original by Victor Hugo is already very well known in popular culture.
But Esmeralda's character is so underrated too. One of the best female characters in literature... She dies for her beliefs, like heros use to do.

This is so good! The part in 2:04 onwards remind me of the tragic death side of a lovers story. Like when the two lovers you have been rooting for suddenly get separated by death! So remind me of that! Talented work once again Lucas!

The thing that makes this an interesting Disney song is how it tries to show how Frollo strives for holiness but is unable to due to the absurdly early modulation.

I disagree - maybe it's just my treble-heavy speakers, but for something trying to capture darkness, the voices are really topheavy.

This one has a lot of promise, but the tempo seems a bit rushed. I love the instrument choices, I was all set to sing along and stuff, and I love the interpretation you did here, but it's a bit difficult to enjoy when it's zipping along until it gets to the last part, and then the low repeated note at the end seems a bit odd and jarring without lyrics. The last bit didn't seem emphasized enough either where it's supposed to crescendo in the original, but it seemed like there was a lack of volume through the whole thing so that might just be my computer.
I don't mean to be a downer but I hope this helps a bit. Usually I love your stuff, and I'm no music critic, it's good but I just feel like you could do a whole lot better on it!

"I was all set to sing along" Although I'm glad that you want to sing along it wasn't made for that (none of my arrangements are ever made for that).
It wasn't meant to be the original either because well... we already have the original. I always choose what to emphasise (or what not to emphasise) in my versions.
Lack of volume I may have turned it down a too low while bouncing the track.
There are always improvements that can be made and of course I could do better. But being like the original and being good to sing along to will never be high on my list of priorities when making an arrangement ... Unless somebody paid me to write a karaoke version or something.
