I'm dealing with an unpermitted garage conversion from the prior seller in the Tampa Bay FL region - if anyone happened to resolve this issue interested to hear how!

Some rural areas don't have building codes except for septic and electric. It makes things easier.

Great video, I’m asking for a suggestion. I have an extension with electricity with no plumbing but no permit. I can probably get a structural engineer to sign my plans. My issue is that the wall is only 22” from the pool and must be 5”. The exception in Miami Dade is 18” (prior to construction), do you think I will have a problem getting a permit? What will be a good reason to request a variant permit?

So when you say illegal basement suits are you talking about bedroom in basement or like living area in basement used to rent out to tenants

I am trying to sue the realtor and seller regarding a home I purchased less than a year ago. Lots of unpermitted plumbing work that affect by ability to use both my bathrooms. Need assistance with finding a lawyer that will take my case.

If they did not disclose the unpermitted work on condition report you can sue the selley

Thanks for the this video, you shared pretty good information. My case is different, I'm in the process to buy a house in NJ, and seller is asking, buyer has to get CO for the bathroom in a finished basement. Would it be a big problem to get permit for the buyer? Its a beautiful bathroom btw.

My father purchased a home with an unpermitted ADU in CA 20 years ago. He did not know it wasn't permitted. The ADU shared electricity with the main home. I rented the main home from him for about 2 years awhile ago and the tenant in the ADU ran up my electric bill. I spoke to my father (owner) and asked if he could separate the electricity. He said he could not. I moved out. The new tenant had the same problem and also wanted the entire property for her own use. She called the city and he was forced to tear down the ADU and received a fine, although the realtor marketed it to him as two dwellings 20 years ago.

Unpermitted work doesn't save a few bucks, it saves thousands. Furthermore, if the permitted work increases the tax assessors value of your home now you have to pay a new increased yearly tax. There's absolutely nothing wrong with unpermitted work.

Yeah until you have to tear it out or get fined. It's a gamble.

You sir are wrong. I’m glad I know all of this and am a licensed contractor. Thank god for permits and 3rd party evaluation of work!!!

@@barronweir123 Really? When's the last time you've seen an inspector climb a ladder and go on the roof to inspect the finished product? Inspectors aren't all knowing, nor does having one mean the job was done correctly. Thats why inspectors aren't held liable for anything that has gone wrong after the build... You put a little too much value on that 3rd party evaluation

@@danbiss87 ive worked with idiots that are drug addicts and have countless mental problems that dont even know what a code book is. I have a different view of the system than you do. I'm happy for an attempt of abjective rating. And thank god I work for myself now and am licensed
