I appreciate this video. It’s honestly an enormous problem in real estate because there is a ridiculous amount of non-permitted construction out there, I’m in Los Angeles and I see it everywhere especially in the single-family residential market.
Are you requiring the home would have a deed restriction to complete an unpermitted as-built permit? San Luis Obispo County is requiring this along with no transparency as to why. I am at the end of my adu as-built process and it has been nothing but obstruction and zero transparency throuought my project.
It always depends on the city and the people working there. Keep your tenants safe! And chat with the city about what the different options are if you do want to do work.
I would keep my mouth shut. Inspector will come and make you tear everything down. They don't have xray vision. So they'll need to make sure all the sewage and electrical is up to code. I say you just keep doing what you're doing. It will cost you a lot of $.
I was wondering based on what ELLEN MARTIN was saying about obtaining a grant for a non permitted ADU that is in the process of being permitted, how would go about getting additional information or whom I should I contact to get more information applying for the grant. I am currently going through this process right now in the City of Menifee, Ca. any help would be greatly appreciated.
In jurisdictions that work with Symbium, it's symbium.com but most jurisdictions don't work with Symbium. The most common online portal is accela so you can try to snoop around on google for city name + planning + portal/accela/permits/etc to see what you can find.
I own a large 5 beds 4 bath home. I install a kitchen in one of the room. Rent out back part of house with 2bdrm 2bath. Separate intrance with yard. Bad actor turn me in. Can inget that permited?
A big joke So much red tape and hoops and obstacles to jump through . I would like to know how many adu are built non permitted ? Everyone needs to get their hands in it . The process could be so much easier and streamed lined . Yet that would cut out many hands in the pot .

All the questions we want answered - thank you. 🚀
I only have one mode 😅
My worries is I have tanants living there for 10 years but it's built so well and might need a little tweak here and there?

You should check CalHFAs website for this information. At the moment, the grant is fully subscribed
@@HowToADU thank you!

I wonder if the state would still grant you money if you’ve already gotten an ADU built but didn’t apply for the grant right away.
I wish the answer was yes because I’m on this boat. Every video and resource says it’s a no. Keep me posted if you find out differently!
