Since then, I've landed a role at eBay and expanded my network in both the tech and design education spaces. I'm extremely grateful that Coursera and Google released such a great educational resource, which significantly boosted my career. However, I've observed a few gaps as the design field has evolved over the years and has become increasingly competitive. This is an honest video on my opinion of the Google UX Design Certificates in 2024. For those of you who are curious or are taking the certificates, keep going! However, please set realistic expectations and understand that this is just the first step in becoming a designer. The joy is in the journey.
I really appreciate you running through all of your professional experience before the certificate. It really illustrates how a variety of experiences make up a good designer and that you had other knowledge before the certificate.
@@AlienaCai madam can explain me ui and ux design for deep because I can't pay fee iam little poor can you can you explain me please what the UI UX in person madam
Here's my new account since the old one is inactive. I’m taking a Meta Frontend Development course to gain real UI/UX skills. Without the knowledge, a certificate is just a piece of paper, reducing its value to the one who really learned
Thank you so much for all this information. It's been a little over two months since I finished my Google course, and I was feeling lost because it seemed to have some missing pieces. However, you've filled in those gaps
This is the most important conversation. The certificates promise a lot but as a beginner I never knew that so many who take them are already in the industry or something related. Thank you for sharing this.
Thank-you for this breakdown. I recently completed both my UX Design and Data Analyst courses for Google but was curious if both certificates were enough to get your foot in the door. It seems like they are a good starting to point…..but may not be enough to get your foot in the door depending on what job try to obtain. I haven’t had any luck securing another job but hope that changes soon.
I hope you see this! In the second course, students must pick 1 of 25 prompts to work on. Do you believe there is any advantage in choosing some over others? Or certain prompts that may be overdone?
After 13years on the graphic design field ( meaning printing ), I just quit my job and move to the UK. And finally find them taking this ux course. Don’t think it will get me to an ux job here, but I guess it could help me on other way😂 once complete this programme I am considering front -end cert for better understanding of it😹
Theres a lot of people who have UX degrees and still cant find a job in the industry. Its very competitive now a days so yea keep applying and dont lose hope
Same for me. I put it on the back burner and have since done an AWS Bootcamp. I can't get a Cloud based role either but I didn't think I would as I don't have the experience yet. The whole IT market is massively competitive and it's not uncommon to make 400 or 500 job applications before getting a job these days.
Certifications are nice bonus but not essential , portfolio is what matter , show ur design . if u have no certificate and good design u will get the job and same goes for if u have certificate and bad design u wont
Thank you for the great content. I am finding your videos very helpful during my journey to learn UX Design. Hi there, i rlly love ur videos, I have a question, your course to become a ux designer is also aimed at those who have just started to study? I just finished 1 of the google's ux course

But.. when I studied graphic design and then went to the job market, I discovered that there was nothing in the world of graphic design (like logos, prints...etc) suit me, and I didn't see myself in it. The course is available on the official Google channel on yt if I’m not wrong. But there are no exercises available for you to test yourself. If you want to get a taste of what it is and whether you’d like out or not you can study there. Btw i know of people who have transitioned from graphic to ux without formal education and are doing well
@@mepikapika maybe whatever suits you. I want to go through the exercises and challenges so I am taking the certificate course. Maybe you can create a good portfolio on your own so you can just take the lessons without paying. That being said I am not sure if all of the lessons are there. Hi Aliena! I really appreciate your video! I am really keen to start your course instead of Google Course, is there any financial aid or scholarship that I could use to buy your course, or even installment payments ? I am transitioning from architecture which I didn't have very good experience with and I realized that I was always in the design part instead of architecture architecture, so I would like to try UI and UX design. Thanks a lot in advance!
Hey there, thank you so much for expressing your interest!! So far, the payment you see on the website is the only option. I used to offer installment payments but it cots tons of platform problem 😢 Thanks for understanding!
I did this and in my opinion it's 100% theory and will not get you a job. There were no practical exercises, what would help you create a portfolio (in Udemy courses you are forced to do a Figma project along with the teacher, which you can later on use in your portfolio). A lot of exercises were pre-made which means you can't try it on figma or anywhere. I think this course is only for beginners, who don't know anything about UX and want to learn the foundations of UX principles like you are learning a language and you are learning grammar or alphabet.
Did it change then? Because when I did it years ago, you absolutely had to do a project, with research, presenting a working prototype and then even building a portfolio website in the end. They even give you a Figma student 2 year trial, which helped me build multiple projects. Also after years of Product Design, this is the only course that actually taught the UX Research part down to the letter, and not just User Interface like 90 percent of other courses.
@@lora4624 Ay, no worries. Good luck on your journey. When you're done with your course or need some help lmk, because I can hit you up with some interesting UX/UI resources to complement your learning

I have a question about you saying that we can label ourselves as a Senior Designer. I'm currently working on a project and I'm applying the double diamond framework to use as a cast study. I've worked as a web designer for about 3 years self-employed/employed and I'm also planning on re-designing a previous project if It might help. A bit impatient haha. I've been in UI/UX and Product Design for 8 years now but my career has mainly been focused on UI. Would you recommend the Google Certificate to someone whose looking to get better at UX? Focusing on the end to end process.
It might be a bit too entry level for you. Feel free to check out my course: fasttrackux.com I teach how design is done in bigger tech companies like Google and Meta - it's more end to end. But I think you are looking for "Product Designer" not "UX designers" - as the UX title tend to be reduced to visualizing PM and business owner's idea rather than the end to end process like you said.
Hi Aliena, I’m a UI Frontend Software Engineer in Big Tech, joined as a New Grad in Aug 2021. But I realized as I worked with the UX teams often, that I’m a better designer than a coder. I started doing the Google UX Design Certification, do you think I can apply for non early career UX Design roles? Or should I stick to Early career ones?
Oh congrats on getting into big tech!! If your case don't take the Google UX certificates 😅 Because it's not how big tech does design, it teaches tech academic way of doing design. I would suggest you to check out my course: fasttrackux.com It may take some time to transition to a UX (we call it product designer now) design position in big tech. Don't quit your job yet! Try to work more closely with designers and see if you can do some projects in house, and then you can apply for a non-early career, sometimes even mid-senior design role. Early career roles are pretty much gone in UX.
I got ux course subscription for 3 months. If I complete the course in this time only ie. 3 months and got all the 7 certificates, will i be still able to access the videos and tests after that?
