I live in a house with a crossroad with a storm drain at the corner. Everyone's trash collects in the drain, especially after it rains. Each week, I clean out any trash or recyclables from the drain. My little part of cleaning up our planet. 😊

This is volunteer month at my job and they just posted events for plogging, a combination of jogging with picking up litter (merging the Swedish verbs plocka upp (pick up) and jogga (jog). Over 100 people participated! Including me and my doggo. I hope many more continue doing this!!! ✌🏼💚

I noticed in your last video that you pick up trash daily and I was so excited when I saw you made an entire video about it! When you stumbled over your final boss, I had to smile a bit. I live in a big city in a neighbourhood where it is very common to see people of all ages, even little children, throw their trash into the parcs because they can't be bothered to walk ten steps to the nearest trash bin. Comoared to where I live, your streets looked like trash was never invented there! It is still nice however that people come together and clean up their space, even or especially if there isn't that much to begin with. I used to volunteer with an organization that cleaned up green spaces all around the city each week, but we haven't been allowed to meet for a long time because of the pandemic, and now only very few volunteers are left. However, your video inspired me so much that I cleaned up my neighbourhood quite a bit this morning! I usually have a lot of social anxiety, but collecting trash brought me such a feeling of accomplishment that I didn't even care when people looked at me weirdly. One woman even stopped and told me that she thinks I am great because I collect trash. That felt so good! I only could to it for two hours or so because of the heat and allergies, but I collected three big garbage bags and some larger items like a tire, toilet seat and even a small aquarium! It is insane what people will put in the bushes because they don't want to make the trip to the landfill.
I just wanted to tell you how energized I was by your video and that because of you, another small corner of the world is a bit cleaner! I really hope, you keep this habit up and inspire more people to clean up: first theor romm, then their house, and then their neighbourhood :)

Great video! In the Netherlands people sometimes use a special tool to pick up trash. It's a stick with which you can safely pick up anything and not touch the item.

I'm working in a Boarding school and sometimes the Kids and I, we go on a walk, picking up Trash. They always like it and most of the time it ends up in a who-picked-up-the-most-trash challenge. I'm also picking up trash by myself from time to time while I'm hiking or so.
Love your challenge, that's great. Keep going. Thank you

Cans and plastic bottles plus some glass bottles are not often thrown away in Germany anymore for years because you pay a refund on them which you only get back if you return them to any supermarket (return machines). Like for a plastic water bottle you pay a refund of 0,25 Euro cents. You would not waste it would you? There are even collectors who try to get extra money if the budget is very tight (elder people) or if they are homeless.

    It's beautifull what you accomplished!
Sadly I cleaned a river once, it had run out of water because of the trash, and people did the same thing again and again... I clean their trash but they always make it back even tho there are giant signs that say,, Dont throw the trash in the nature".
Idk what to do.. I honestly feel like I should give up because they are so filthy and disgusting... I found many things that were thrown onto the river and it makes me sick..
I know that what I do makes a change but I'm still young and my parents get tired of driving me there(it's far away in the forest) to help.. They say I'm not meant to clean their trash.. They are right but my heart breaks..but I can't do the same thing forever.. I have many things that stop me from going there especially the big distance. But that place was so beautifull when i was young and it brought me joy. After people found that place and it became popular, they slowly destroyed it..

Thank you for the hard work and the inspiration…I’ll start doing the same! Just a few questions, did you pick the trash with your bare hands? Weren’t you afraid to get some kind of infection from it? I want to carry something to pick up the trash, but I don’t want to use a plastic bag (that would be a contradiction)…I’m not sure what could be more appropriate…do you have a suggestion? Thank youuu

I do this 4-5 times a week. I don't pick up one item though. I take a bucket, rubber gloves and a picker-upper and go along the road. It does make a difference. There is less and less to find. I need to expand my route to other parts of the neighborhood. it is satisfying. While I live in Brooklyn, I think of Japan as I do it.

I feel u! Before I was studying in a univerisity in Tianjin, China, this university was so clean that when I moved to my actual university in Beijing, I got shocked and kinda uncomfortable, cause as u said, claleaning starts with u, ur room, house and then the environment, so if my environment is like that what would u expect about the dormitories? I cannot do anything about the old dormitory which wall are full of black fungus, but I am doing my best with cleaning, cause I live next to the street and the pollution is strong. Before I used to clean the road, but at some point I got exhausted, I am hoing to retake it again when I went out running. Thanks for sharing. A clean world wille make ppl more happy!

Thank you so much for this video! I did the same thing when I lived in my previous neighbourhood. The road I was jogging on daily was full of garbage and it bothered me so much that I took a garbage bag with me and picked up all the garbage during my run. During that run, multiple people stopped when they saw me and actually complimented me that I was cleaning up the garbage. I was so surprised by their positive reactions that it motivated me even more to keep cleaning :) I should do it also in my new neighbourhood! Thank you for reminding me!

I didn’t want plastic to get in the lake where I live so started picking it up on my walks. I ended up bringing a bag so I didn’t have to keep running to the bins. I then started picking up other rubbish like bottles and cigarette butts so a larger bag and tongs were needed. After a couple of days the garbage man brought his truck to me as my bags got bigger and bigger. He gave me an implement to pick it up instead of my tongs so I didn’t need to bend over. People looked at me strangely so I started to wear expensive sportswear when I picked up. Then people started smiling and commenting and thanking me. Not quite sure of what the moral to this story is but in my country you get more positive feedback if you look wealthier when cleaning up in the parkway. I gave it up after a while as I began to get up later (also I began to see trash everywhere I went as I was more aware of it) but you have inspired me to do it again.

Great job! Yuck, pretty sure the bottle with mystery fluid was probably urine. That’s what people do here in the US. I probably pick that much up out of my yard or driveway on trash day. 🤢 I wear gloves, use a small rake and a dustpan.

But now i'm like... yah... why don't I just throw it away if the other person failed to do so... It doesn't need to lie there... I can pick it up too.

Hi Aki さん, your insights on this cleaning up trash challenge are really interesting. I think as someone who doesn't sit down to meditate, the process of cleaning is like cleaning up debri or problem solving. Haha it's interesting that certain rubbish congregate in one area, maybe they want to find other bottle or can drinks friends so they gather there. Also think that the rubbish one throws out reflects their life.Www...I think the rubbish I throw out the most is tissue coz I have allergic sinusitis at times. 恥ずかしいなあ。。Definitely felt more inspired after watching your video and have cleaned up my rental place and washroom much more often. >

Yes. As an American I have the impression that trash wouldn’t be thrown in nature. But not surprised. I lived in the Rocky Mountains… and would pick up trash on walks. It feels good and the right thing to do… until it is a burden. The town in Mexico where I am … has a handful of town workers sweeping and cleaning by hand. I admire the town effort… and success. Snake saki???

Where I live in California, people do illegal dumping, which means people have a business where they take the trash from people's houses but instead of taking it to the dump and paying a fee, they dump big truckloads of trash on the side of the road. Mattresses, furniture, appliances, all kinds of things. They also come to the trash areas of my apartment complex and dump when no one is watching. So we have to pay every week to have it cleaned up. And the cities spend millions of dollars cleaning up the roads but the roads are never clean because the trash is dumped every day.

I think the difference is, in Japan, people are raised and encouraged to be very clean, and they have a sense of community around it. They seem to do it out of respect for nature, the community and themselves.
I live in a big western city. I would kind of love to do this - but if I did this, I would barely make a visible difference. For every item I picked up, others would throw several more. With trashcans available on every corner, it still confuses me why people throw their trash on the street. Really wish people would have more focus on keeping the environment clean.

I do this once in a while in my local park. It's very clean but you always find bits of paper and a bottle or two. It really makes me feel good to do it. Also, trash attracts trash for some reason. I guess if people see something on the ground they think it's OK to toss whatever they've got in their hand.

Japan is really light at 5 or 6 in the morning! in England for at least 6 months it's not light before 7 and in the middle of winter it's closer to 8. of course in the summer it's super light... at 4.... but the big change doesn't make for a consistent time to go out... :/

Another TH-camr, Bunny, started something called Trash Tuesdays asking viewers to spend 30 minutes picking up trash each Tuesday & send in a photo of how much you picked up. All those photos are organized by date of Tuesday to show the impact her viewers have. And some else taught me to spend 10 or 15 minutes picking up trash upon arriving at a campsite so that 1.) you can enjoy the cleaned site while there, and 2.) you “leave it better than you found it.”

Thank you for the inspiration. Keep it up. I would like to do this in my town as well. Let’s all do it together. If each person picks up 1 trash that’s a big difference already. 👍🏽🌎

We do this sometimes together with our 4 years old son. We take a big and robust trash bag and a garbage picker (don't know if this is the right word 😅)
Some days, the bag is full, before we leave our street 😭

I live in one of the most messy parts of London. Every time I take a walk in my local park, I always remove a few items of trash but the next day I come, there are more. It feels so helpless sometimes!

Be careful, some things can be deadly with the slightest touch. I wouldn't grab someone else's trash with my bare hands. If they were stupid enough not to properly dispose of trash, then just how stupid could they be?
