I have my farm that has no buildings on it so it goes by my name. Mom and dad's "home place" is the original farm and then the 3rd property we have is the big farm and that goes by the name of the people we bought it from. It will always be known by their name. They are both gone now and it is a nice way to remember them. They were like family to us growing up! The "Home place" will always be that to us kids!
My mom's side we use a mix of who owns it and north south... place. My wife's family's farm they use a mix of who had homestead there in the family as most of the land has been in the family for over 100 yrs then they do like North South canyon pastures
Ours are usually called by the old family name. Also if it was a set of buildings that have been torn down it still is call by that name. Like the old red house, there hasn’t been a house there for 50 years. Everyone knows what we are talking about.
Kudos to you wonderful Kansas farmers for being so versatile in such changeable weather!! What would we do for our food if you couldn't go with the flow!? Lol! Same with the heifer mothers and their newborn calves in that snowstorm last weekend, abruptly changing from 80-degree weather! You know how to raise 'em right!! So happy you got the moisture after 6 months of dryness throughout the fall and most of the winter! God was with you! Louisiana weather is the same couple of days ago it was 85 and tonight its going to be 25. When I worked on the farm we had 3 farm areas: the shop, down below, and bosses house. Each piece had its own name like middle 40, the school hundred, the 20, or area and name like down below 35.

We name our farms the main/home farm (where we live) my grandpa's farm that I own now (bought it from my grandparents a year ago) and Groff's which is named after the last name of the gentleman we bought that farm from. We name our fields by sections on the farm by alphabet (section A, B, C and so on then the fields in the section would A-1, A-2, or B-1, B-2 and so on.
When I worked on the farm it was home place for where the boss lived most everything else was name by who owned it. Ie. the Larson place the Kieth place etc. sometimes when a young farmer is trying to tell me where to go I will just ask them who owned it. Seems like I can find it easier that way. Of course dropping a pin. Works to.

We had a place called the Shawnee creek, the name of the creek beside it. It had a bottom with a mound in it we always thought the Indians made.
