Why did some of the calfs get a different brand on the hip. Just curious lol. Thank you.
Hi Rachel! We brand at different locations on the calves based on their owner. For example, Brandon's mother owns some animals in the herd so her brand belongs on the left hip of her calves whereas the ranch's animals all have the Hashknife on the left rib!

I know its a way of life but the man with the branding iron should be a little slower and only hit the calf one time.Great place
Charlie we absolutely agree! He is the youngest son at the Hashknife and had to learn some time...He improved throughout the day.
At what age do you brand your calves?
We calve typically from March to the end of April. Occasionally we will get late calves but that is not often and we have not branded them due to the young age. So typically a branded calf will be 1 or 2 months old by the time we brand in the end of May
