Being raised on a working ranch on the island of Maui, I tip my hat to Duke and the Phillips family, it just reminds me of how I was taught about ranching and the humbling feeling that was instill by my elders of my family. Ranching is a tough business, I remember some years ago, where the drought was so critically bad, that cattle on my own family's ranch was literally dropping dead! There ain't to many truly dedicated cowboys/ranch-hands who's willing to work full-time on a working ranch, it's mostly family members, and maybe a few close friends that love this life. And there are the others, who just want to be the weekend warriors, and when Monday comes around their back at their 40 hr. work week doing another trade of work. You can't blame them, you have to have live it 24/7, 365 days, and love what the ranch life is all about, and knowing that it's never about the pay!
Proud feedlot (mostly cattle a few pigs) brat here. Respect the way you guys keep the traditional style of ranching alive. I do believe there is a place for both styles of livestock production in this world. Glad to see that there are still real cowboys out there.
Its a Heart warming story about the American Rancher ! its America , Gods Dream , Gods Love . its the Highest form of Freedom ! I'm jealous and so happy for you , with this incredible Life !
We didn't always use cradles we often penned them in the branding yard then put them in race an pulled out onto the ground for branding and marking and anything else that needs doing since it was done in January we would also treat all pink eye and scours.
There is always a great feeling of reward and contentment to see what you were taught and learnt over there years passed on to the succeeding generations. It's is its own reward knowing that another generation is going to live to carry it on and pass it on.
All of what was said here and in the first part is correct and could be applied to Australia and our grazing properties and stations. The most important thing is to know the property/ properties in all its moods and seasons and know every inch of it.
The biggest difference is that many places are being bought up by companies especially tthe Chinese and it's a very bad thing land should only be owned by families who live on it and have the interest of the land at heart and are vested in its interest.
I understand that branding is traditional, but surely chipping them makes much more sense. You can have information programmed into it up to the point of selling it, for any buyer. And the data would have the full history of the animal
Chips can move is probably the biggest problem for ranching. Other problems would be that there would have to be a standardized chip throughout the industry because not all chip readers can recognize every chip type. That's one of the biggest problems in the pet industry. Also, chips sit in the muscle which I imagine would cause problems for meat later on. Brands are also easier to recognize on sight without having to catch them and go get your chip reader, which can be dangerous depending on the animal. So if you have an animal that's not yours, you can get them to where they belong. I do think that they mentioned something about an ear chip (not tag) in a later episode?
Some people put electric earth's in but they fall off or break. A brand is always there, also someone could pop someone else's off an put one of theirs on
A rancher told me that one ranch of theirs was so remote it took a certain person to want to work there And don’t forget the low wages lol I want my own remote ranches to come and go to as needed that has me frequenting town and gets me back out in the near wilderness but with a house and some facilities to make working my livestock easier lol that’s a good cowboy way of living lol But if you’re too superstitious there’s too much Brahman blood in a herd and people won’t rope out calves to mark our brand and want to use calves chutes
Why is a ranch that size not using a chute!? What a waste of energy.. And talking about the least stressful way on the calf... Ummmm no. It's 2019. There's way better ways.
It aint "super hectic" having them in the pen using chutes. Thisnis some self righteous and fake B.S...how are they soo clean? Tables and chutes are amazing tools that allow ranchers to do the work of 20 wirh 5 or 6 people. A table worker, a leg holder, a few calve pushers and a vet or someone who doea yhe shotts. You dont need teams of ropers. You dont need horses. None of that f&*keration.
I'm sure Corrales and chutes make it to where you have to have a lot less people. Less people means less cost, or your neighbors work for free. Repay pay each other by helping each other.
Messianic Hebrew ambassadorship neighbors and friends come help out and than you go help them at their branding. On really big ranches they hire cowboy crews that go out with a wagon. Their aren’t many corrals out where they are
Apparently you’ve not spent much time out here in the west. You invite people to brand the way you do here and your “help” is going to be high school kids from town and some drunk guy you met at the bar. Branding, for us, is as much about spending time with our friends and neighbors doing something we all enjoy as it is getting the work done.
Remmy Mills and your neighbors know the routine which makes it safer. Ranching communities always seem to be closer than most. Neighbors help Neighbors which is a beautiful thing. They watch out for each other. From what I've heard most ranchers don't have a lot of extra money to hire people unless they have a really big operation. They did say their partner with nature conservancy which would be funding a lot of this stuff obviously.
I wish I was raised this way so I could pass on something this great to my boys
His "kids" want to be like their dad. That's what America is sometimes lacking today. It's called being a role model. God bless fathers (and mothers).

Feedlots are where money is for everyone but feedlots are absolutely terrible and disgusting.
Long live The Cowboy Farming & Ranching Life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BJ9564!!!!
Lee yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a unique lifestyle. Glad there are still ranchers and land as far as the eyes can see.
Ya
The lifestyle the culture, a good way of life.
Its a Heart warming story about the American Rancher ! its America , Gods Dream , Gods Love . its the Highest form of Freedom ! I'm jealous and so happy for you , with this incredible Life !
Head/heel branding is the least stressful cowboy 😉
My dream ranch would also have mountains in the backdrop, a romantic feeling for me.
An old cowboy saying ,nothing worse than a dull knife and a cold branding iron....!!!
Great job
“Nobody tries to brand a standing steer, you’re gonna get killed.”
Ever hear of cowboy poker ol son
Work on a station or "ranch" is so much different in Australia
it is a lot more efficient and larger and they use branding cradles which are generally easier
They big top end property properties use helicopters to help muster
We didn't always use cradles we often penned them in the branding yard then put them in race an pulled out onto the ground for branding and marking and anything else that needs doing since it was done in January we would also treat all pink eye and scours.

beautiful, I gonna apply to work there !

The Best lifestyle.
Outstanding
That cows just a chillin on the ride 6:25

Bill Gates owns the most agriculture areas in the USA...and he's probably still buying more.
I’d love to go to a branding/camping trip.
wow what a nice show remind me of my life back days in iraq
Nice banjo at the end
Y’all need a chuck wagon
Only big outfits use wagons
Nice

@Sophia Schommer ... Yes, that's what I was going to say too. You can read a brand on an animal from horseback, from a vehicle or in the air.
You can't see a chip from the truck.........

But branding is a very cruel way of marking these animals, that's animal abuse.
branded animals hurt for 8 weeks, suffers pain in agony.
3 homens para imobilizar um bezerro? 🤦🏻♂️ do jeito errado ainda
É o jeito deles fazerem, cada um faz do seu modo
Nathalia Bittencourt verdade, você tem razão
.@@nathaliabittencourt3361
I always thought branding was cruel bc your literally burning something into their skin
Nathan Ahnemann their hide is pretty dang think. It’s the only 100% effective and proficient way to mark calves
@@robgriz72 they can feel a fly walk on their skin
YO YO your point?
It doesn't really hurt them animals have a high pain tolerance
@@YOYO-ew8mp That cause there skin is sensitive but when you brand them it only stings for a second or two and the pain goes away.
Я нихуя не понял, но было очень интересно.
That's really necessary to brand an animal, I don't understand
Milena Hernandez yes. How else do you keep them from ending up wearing someone else’s brand. Cattle thieves love unbranded cows.
So nobody can steal them
Why is a ranch that size not using a chute!? What a waste of energy.. And talking about the least stressful way on the calf... Ummmm no. It's 2019. There's way better ways.
coors1800 nester
Don't you know it's the current year?
Using a chute to brand is pathetic
branding is barbaric!
YO YO 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yo yo it's necessary
getting tattoo's all over your body or getting piercing all over your body is barbaric whats your point ?it's the same thing as branding
Grow up this is the real world there's nothing barbaric about it

How living the american Cattle farmers in 16th Century or 21th, why Branding the cattle now, is biggest mistake, Branding your children or not?
Reinhard Geissler do you understand the purpose of branding? Comparing livestock to children is idiotic
Reinhard Geissler obviously you have no education.
Please continue your VAST experience with the cattle industry
THIS HIRTS THEM BC OF THE HEAT OF THE STIPID FIRE I HATE THESE KINDA PEOPLE
And i hate people who cant spell worth a flip
I hate people who actually think the heat hurts them.
I hate when little city slickers cry about something they don't have any education about
