  • We recently moved to #Singapore with our 2.5 year old son, George. After 2 weeks in quarantine we spent our first day of freedom viewing condos and apartments in search of something spacious and family friendly. Our search criteria is a 2 bed, balcony, no less than 800sq ft and a 10 minute walk from an MRT and/or bus and within half an hour commute of my School. We have a budget of $3.5k per month.

Yes, definitely apt with visible or invisible grille is a must have, specially for families with young children.

So nice to see some Singaporeans being so kind and giving suggestions! I'm glad you found an apartment that suits your needs! I'm a huge fan of the east (kallang/katong) area, enjoy your stay here in SG ✨

Window grills are important as most are high rise apartment especially with young children. Next amenities and convenient transportation are important too.

Absolutely agree. We actually wanted the tanglin regency property but someone put in an offer before us and it was accepted. The place we have now is on the 4th floor and we are having to pay to have an invisible grill installed - you can’t put a price on safety ❤️👶🏼

Anchorage apartment istoo old. For the ground floor, there will be pests crawl ing out from the bin. Of all the apartments, Urban Edge is the best because of the layout and good natural lighting.

Thanks for watching! Yes it is very clean and the older condos are much bigger than the newer ones. With the threat of lockdowns etc we want somewhere big with outdoor space. Next weeks video, will show you the rest of the places we looked at and the place we have now moved into 😊 thanks for watching ❤️ xx

You can take a look at East Coast area. The Seawind Condo at Telok Kurau. Full of amenities such as East Coast Beach, shopping malls and tonnes of cafes and restaurants nearby.

Yep, plenty of lovely places out east, prices a bit cheaper too and the MRT and bus connections are good. East Coast Beach, Changi, Pasir Ris, Bedok Reservoir - all nice places to live, plenty of amenities, malls etc. Better value than Tanglin etc - maybe not so posh though!

I love Anchorage , near city , near Queensway shopping Center and Ikea, and Hawker center / wet market.
I love urban edge , but the rent is a killer, less neighbor

    • @GemmaGeorge
      @GemmaGeorge  2 ปีที่แล้ว

We actually went back to the anchorage and viewed a different apartment, further up and with 2 planters but it didn’t feel quite right for us. Totally agree with you on Urban edge, super slick and modern but maybe not family friendly for us

Tiong Bahru area if you want some cafe vibes and colonial architecture or Redhill area. Just a stop away with lower rent and quiet residential area.

Why u look in the west only? Lived in the west for 6 years next to Redhill MRT. Moved to the east after that. Have a look at Tanah Merah and fheee at Casa Merah. Fantastic location. Close to MRT amd blocks 50-64 very quiet. Check I have no afternoon sun or ur AC bill will explode. And yes a GOOD agent is a must when it comes to problems are things to fix as well as when return the apartment after 2 years. All contracts are 2 years only. If u want FF think about the furnitures. There are Asian size Ang Moh size furnitures

    • @GemmaGeorge

We are looking only on the west coast, because I teach in that area. And do not want to be spending more than one hour in public transport travelling to and from work. Some of the suggestions from yourself, I’ve had a look on google. Good properties, at a good price. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your advice and making us feel welcome in your wonderful country. Stay safe! Thanks for watching 😊

Yes. And perhaps other families, that I need to Singapore like us, would be looking for the same thing. Fortunately, we held our nerve and got exactly what we were looking for, with an additional bathroom 👏🏼🇸🇬

  • @wq2746

🤔 My personal points of view, seek agent (ofcos trusted company's ), reason is anything feedback to agent let the agent handle with landlord.

Yes, you need an agent because at the end of lease there will be many issues you won't even have thought of that will come up and you could loose your deposit. Older apartments are always bigger and they are less likely to have mold issues or issues with glass breaking, I kid you not!!. Not all Condos will allow you to install the grill of any kind even the invisible type so check that out first. Stay away from any type of construction as it goes on for years and even though they should finish at a certain time in the evenings not all do. We are in our 6th home in Singapore so kinda know the pitfalls. Try for somewhere near your or husbands work or near an MRT or a Condo that has a bus to take you to the nearest MRT. When you find the apt you like take hundreds, yes hundreds, of photos even down to the sink plugs and send to your agent and the owners agent, you will need them, believe me. Try and stay clear of apt where owner may live abroad, too many problems when issues arrive. Oh one thing if you are having a helper pick a place where her room has a window. Tenants do not have the same rights as as a tenant in UK,. Good luck

Thank you for sharing all this wonderful advice! Really appreciate your knowledge and welcome to Singapore 🇸🇬 We are getting quotes from 3 companies this week for the invisible grill - you can’t put a price on safety ❤️

You should at least hire a agent that wears masks in the car and you should at least put masks on your baby boy so he is protected
