I always come back to the fact that David Duke votes for Trump. It's not a mystery why. He appeals to the lowest common denominator and rhetoric like this sustains them. It's hard for me to go to church knowing that people who enthusiastically support such a hateful person are going to be right next to me playing pretend. The environment in this country right now is scary. It reminds me of everything we've learned about America's past in history books. If I had the money to leave and move to a different country, I would. I'm not proud to live among these people.

Once again, thank you for reminding us to be the Christians God calls us to be. Proverbs 6:16 says “There are six things that Yahweh hates, seven that he abhors: a haughty look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that weaves wicked plots, feet that hurry to do evil, a false witness who lies with every breath, and one who sows dissension among brothers…

      That's Trump!
It may be ironic, but Donald Trump may have led me away from agnosticism back to Christianity. Evil is real, and it is seductive, clever, and well-financed. We must fight it -- indeed rebel against evil even if we are in no way rebellious! -- but we are as ineffective against evil as Don Quixote was against windmills. Evil has always shown itself powerfully destructive. We can't fight evil alone.

    Hi Rev. Trevors,
I am a 57 Yr old Christian woman in Red Deer. 2 weeks ago I stepped into a situation where a 17 yr old girl was stalking and terrorizing a 13 Yr old boy. When I got her attention, she threatened to punch me by drawing her fist back: I held my ground and didn't move, didn't raise my fists, didn't say a word. And she did it anyways. She punched me in the face and broke the cartilage in the tip of my nose. I have been dealing with concussion symptoms ever since. And though I hope I am never in that situation again, I know I handled it well. She had a choice to walk away from the situation, but she didn't. I'm a white-haired Grandma with glasses who was there picking rosehips: I wasn't a threat At All. And now, she will go to court as I did press charges. Everything about this makes me feel sick, except for the boy's reaction. I went to him afterwards and he broke out sobbing, sorry for what had happened. "It's all my fault! You tried to protect me & you got hurt!" I told him it wasn't his fault, that he had nothing to be sorry for. As well, I said, "I CHOSE to step in. That's what Adults Do! They Protect Kids because YOU ARE WORTH IT!" He cried and cried...I don't think anyone stands up for him in his home. I held him and he wept. I guess we gotta ask ourselves: is our neighbour worth getting punched in the face for? Even though I've suffered a lot these past 2 weeks, I still say, "YES".

@@yourUncleGrinch You understand what you're saying here, right? Because if you can "lose your faith" you are saying that your belief--christian belief--isn't about what is true. You are saying your belief isn't based on what's true, it is based on something else. There either is or is not a god. One of the things that makes me doubt the christian god is that christians seem to do and say such hate-filled things. An all-loving god--which is what chriatianity teaches--would not allow the horrific things we are seeing christians do. If your god were real, christians would not behave the way christians behave.
Take that last step. You know the christian god isn't real. Could there be some other god? Maybe, but I would expect to see some evidence that any god someone claimed to exist did, in fact, exist. Base your beliefs on evidence, not "faith."

In a recent press conference, a reporter asked JD Vance if he had a responsibility to fact check things that his constituents tell him, he said that it is the responsibility of the press to fact check those things. He got a lot of cheers for saying that, and he acted as though he felt very proud of himself. The fact that he didn't answer the question but threw it back on the reporter, says everything we need to know about JD Vance.

Choosing competent decision makers over incompetent
decision makers is serious business being tasked rational persons,
not choosing personalities based on feelings, but making a rational choice
of selecting competent leaders who make sensible decisions, instead of affirming delusional ideologues already derelict in their duty. Regime change
is very plainly needed and people who have good sense know this. There
is no defense of the criminally incompetent present administration and
any who support it are complicit enablers of evil.

Spectrum News's Taylor Popielarz posted a list of public buildings that had been "placed on lockdown, evacuated, closed, or searched at some point over the last week due to threats." There were 21 facilities, including eight educational institutions, four county buildings, three related to car and driver licensing, two health facilities, and two municipal government buildings.
It's not just threats on buildings either. Many city officials, including the mayor and their families, are getting repeated death threats.

I worked downtown and lived in Miami back in the early to mid 80's. Also was taking classes at Miami Dade Community College. On the way to classes one day my car broke down downtown. A Haitian man with a backpack asked if I needed help. I took him up on it. He figured out what was wrong, fixed it, and was walking away when I asked if I could give him a ride to where he was going. He was happy and said yes, so I did. Don't remember where downtown it was, but I remember his help and his appreciation for the lift. I can't tolerate people who are anti-immigrant (many of us in this country had family or ancestors that immigrated here, or were despicably brought here against their will). I don't appreciate their behavior, hatred, and intolerance. And I love Haitians. The ones I knew in Miami were incredible strong people. Also I have Mexican people in my extended family. They are wonderful and I love them. Thanks Reverend.

When I think of immigrants; of course the Children of Israel in Egypt; but I also consider that even Jesus was an immigrant when Joseph and Mary had to flee with him. If they were at our southern border asking for asylum, they would be denied a safe haven here. How many immigrants are praying to the same God we pray to; and any harming them in any manner is definitely challenging God.

Those who treat others badly bring shame and ruin upon themselves. I look at the antisemite who cannot recognize the Jew long domiciled in his country, whose ethical values are identical with the Christian ideal, who assimilate into the culture, and who make indelible contributions to the overall vitality of their nation, as a fellow citizen. German science without Einstein and German music without Medelssohn is now absurd. People who, like Hitler, Goebbels, and Streicher demonized Jews made the mass shootings and gassings possible. Hutu Power in Rwanda? Much the same.

Regarding the commandment against false witness, which Roman Catholics and Lutheran's number as the eighth, Martin Luther in both his Small and Large Catechisms makes the point that false witness is not *just* creating or perpetrating lies against one another, but also using even what may be true with the intent to harm the "treasure" of "an upright and unsullied name and reputation." Rather, Luther wrote, it is the godly person's duty to " defend him (the neighbor) speak well of him, and put the best construction on everything." The magnitude of the transgression against Springfield, Ohio's immigrant community is magnified with each telling of a story which is not only a lie, but intended to harm each and every member of that, and the nation's immigrant communities.

In my orchestration of fantasy, I pray that Coach Walz can address the people of Ohio saying: "Ohioans! Who are you going to stand with? The people of the beautiful, (formerly) peaceful town of Springfield? Or the people who have brought dread and terror down upon it?"

What does it mean when someone is deflecting?
To attack or blame another person rather than accepting criticism or blame for your actions: When someone deflects, they are trying to feel less guilty, avoid negative consequences, and put the blame on others. The guilty person deflects their guilt onto the person who is accusing them or onto another person.

The Gospel of George R. R. Martin speaks of the Red Wedding. Walder Frey, embittered when Robb Stark broke a pact to marry a Frey daughter, arranged for wedding of Edmure Tully And Roslyn Frey which took place at a Frey stronghold. After the wedding and festivities, Frey soldiers massacred all the wedding guests including King Robb and Queen Talisa Stark, Matriarch Catelyn Stark and most of their entourage.
And Frey would have gotten away with it except for the unstoppable march of time and consequences. There's a myth about Arya Stark coming back to single-handedly massacre house frey, but in reality, news of the Red Wedding spread across Westros like California wildfire, faster than messenger crows could carry it, and all of the carefully crafted alliances House Frey had cultivated over lifetimes dwindled away, as no-one wanted to associate with someone who would massacre their own house guests and betray the sacred tradition of hospitality. In the end, due to an old grudge and lust for power House Frey withered with time and suspicion.

On the one hand, his words violate the 2nd greatest commandment of loving thy neighbor.
On the other hand, we are taught to pray for and bless our enemies. Sometimes, we perceive someone as an enemy that is actually a friend. He is clearly not praying for those he sees as an enemy. Personal experience has shown that when I pray, privately, for someone who has confronted me, I find a peace come over me. It doesn't solve the situation, but it helps me and triggers a frame of mind that can better work with the situation. For about 10 years I have been saying that the following of Christ's teachings can improve mental health directly. And,as a side effect, personal perception of situations improves.

Beyond the moral issues is that these are lawful, legal migrants who came here through proper channels and paperwork. That makes them legal residents of the state of Ohio. JD is also one of two Senators that represent ALL residents of that state and owes a duty to serve his constituents. Whether a native citizen, a naturalized citizen, a lawful migrant, or just a visitor to that state, JD Vance owes every one of them his honest service at all time while he is in office collecting a salary for doing his job. This is not his job. So there are another batch of moral questions and every voter should be demanding his service be proper.

The story of Cain & Abel is often misunderstood. This isn’t a new thing either. Almost all of Jesus’ teachings circle back to that story in a fashion.
Cain asked, “am I my brother’s keeper?” The bad guy in the story asked that question. That means you are never supposed to ask that question. Jesus extended that beyond your own brother, making all men brothers and all women sisters. Listen to what the bad guy says, because he always gives the wrong response in every story. It is the most basic moral in the most basic of stories.
Cain was the bad shepherd. It is your duty to usher your flock away from his. No, Cain was not his brother’s keeper, but you are, lest you become like Cain.
This is one of those stories that always confused me. It isn’t the understanding of the story, but rather in the understanding others have of the story. How do you miss that the first murderer asked the question that would free him from responsibility for tending to his brother? Perhaps it wasn’t close enough to the beginning of the book for people to see that it was important.
I’m an animist, so I look at this story differently. Aside from the nonsense of offering food to a god who doesn’t eat, there are other parts of it that you likely don’t see in the way I do. Why didn’t Abel improve Cain’s sacrifice by giving his sacrifice to Cain’s sheep? Why didn’t Cain give some of his sheep for Abel to sacrifice alongside his grain? Why would god choose one sacrifice over another? These are the questions that an animist would ask, not whether or not I am my brother’s keeper.
There are questions of a tribal nature that spring up from this story that are much more important. Abel was slain because he wasn’t his brother’s keeper. Cain slew Abel because he wasn’t his brother’s keeper. This is a simple story if you think in tribal terms instead of modern terms, cousin.
Cain’s offspring are out there among other tribes because god stayed his hand instead of being wrathful. Your own cousins are in every tribe you meet because of that mercy. This is another unwritten and unspoken teaching of that story that only the animist sees. The story of Noah and the Flood repeats that lesson in a different fashion. That lesson is so important that it appears over and over again. It is repeated again in the story of Joseph, who after being sold into slavery, welcomes his brothers into Egypt.
If you ask if you are your brother’s keeper, you are lost in the wilderness without tribe. Even Cain found tribe after being cast out and he was a murderer.
Like with all stories, you can learn new things from them. Jesus tried to point you back to this one in his teachings.

Couple things to say . One relating to Cain and Able and the other relating to the video. First, Cain killed Abel out of Jealous Rage after God chose Abel’s living sacrifice as preferential to Cain’s fruit offering, so it could be argued that God, being all knowing and knowing the hearts of man knew that Cain would kill Abel and yet chose Abel’s offering anyway. On to the video, though this is more directed at the whole MAGA group, and it’s just morbidly funny to me that they follow a malicious lie as truth simply because they like the guy, and at the same time they’re causing division and spewing hate, they call themselves active, loving Christians. Clearly loving your neighbor gets lost in translation.

Christian duty and constitutional duty are two different things and people
should have the depth of wisdom to understand that security of nations
resides in the legal duty and sworn constitutional duty of leaders being
a proven performance of keeping their oath of office to enforce the laws
of the land, and that dereliction of duty and failing to do that is a crime.
We are not talking about sin as may be described by scripture, but crime
as in the kind of extreme offense that would produce imprisonment or
even capital punishment for that breach of duty. Presently there are
unfit and derelict incompetent leaders in positions of authority who
should be removed, and regime change is needed by more than USA.
People should stop pretending that Jesus is running for president
or judging what are competent leaders by any religious test. It wasn't
the pope who was supreme commander of the allied forces on D Day,
but it was a general Dwight David Eisenhower who was a competent
leader. The test and job requirement was not what general was the
most devout Christian, but the test was who could get the job done.
Give that due thought when it comes to choosing leaders and don't
choose fools who are already derelict in duty to be your leaders.

    • @RealBradMiller
      @RealBradMiller 16 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +2

Troy, while I understand your concerns about the changes in Springfield, it’s important to address a few key points. First, the influx of immigrants is often driven by labor shortages that local businesses are experiencing. These individuals are coming to fill crucial roles, contributing to our economy and helping keep businesses running.
Claiming that this situation equates to “government-sponsored human trafficking” is not only misleading but diminishes the real issues surrounding both immigration and human trafficking. Immigrants often seek safety and opportunity, and equating them with criminal activities associated with cartels is both unfair and harmful.
Moreover, regarding government funds, many of these resources are intended to support infrastructure and services that benefit the entire community, not just line the pockets of officials. The presence of immigrants can stimulate the local economy, create jobs, and help revitalize struggling neighborhoods.
Let’s focus on solutions that foster understanding and collaboration instead of fostering division. The residents of Springfield can benefit from the diversity and contributions that these new community members bring, and it’s essential to recognize their humanity rather than dismiss them with fear-based rhetoric. Cheers.

The irony of this. I lived on the West Coast of Oregon. There was a lake in our town where the ducks and geese came to have their babies. In the fall hunters would gather with their decoys and their blinds and shoot these birds before they could fly away to their next feeding ground. My friend who lived on the lake had a blowhorn that she regularly sounded to keep the ducks and geese from being ambolished. These were white people mostly male.
Hypocrisy at the fact no one is flocking to that town. False witness to villianize the foreigners who came to a community to work. All this to try to seize power. Ugly destructive.
I remember sending my children to school on picture day. The goal being to get a picture with their eyes open that I could look at and send to loved ones to document their growth. It is so hard not to be angry at these people that want to be public servants but truly want to just have power and fear. Stripping away joyful moments of a child's life and a parent's sense of safety.

Cristian conservatives appears to be an oxymoron. The moral majority shows no morality. We see how much people who claim to follow Christ his golden rule. It's so easy to claim to be a Christian while ignoring Christ's teaching. Matthew 25:35 ESV .
For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you we.
Deuteronomy 27:19 ESV ‘Cursed be anyone who perverts the justice due to the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’
