Sorry you're having trouble understanding the video I couldn't show because I had to use both my hands and I couldn't hold the camera but I explained everything I took off to get it out and then I said you had to pry it from its bracket and then just wiggle its way out of there. Good luck with yours

Thanks for doing this video. It was very helpful. I just did the same job on my 2012 Genesis 4.6 and it was almost identical to what you did. Now that I've done the job, I agree that pulling the fan is pretty much essential (and so easy!). In fact, right after pulling the air filter housing and misc intake piping, that is the first thing I would do. It's then much easier to pull the belt off. (Conversely, putting the belt back on before replacing the fan is smart move too.) Also, go ahead and pull the protective skid plates under the car so you can get to the alternator from the bottom, because you'll need to work it from underneath the car to wedge the alternator out of its bracket. One other thing I recommend is that if you are going to pull the alternator through the front as you (and I) did, it is immensely helpful to take the small black metal bracket for holding wires off the side of the alternator. It's held on by a 10mm bolt. There is little space to maneuver and having it off helps immensely. One final thought. The entire alternator is held on by a bracket with three bolts. Has anyone tried just taking out the entire alternator bracket with alternator still in it from the bottom? It looks doable, and if so, I believe it would alleviate a lot of other problems. I took the bolts out whlie the alternator was out, but because I was working on a car on jack stands, really didn't have enough space to give it a good whack with a hammer to see if I could dislodge it, so I just left it alone and put the bolts back in. Anyway, maybe someone can give it a try. Thank again for doing the video!

I was thinking the same, just remove the bracket with the alternator attached and drop through the bottom. The reason the bracket did not move is there are 2 additional bolts (total of 5) that are neither accessible nor visible until the alternator is
      removed.

@@DavidTheMechanic yeah, but the point of watching the video is to see what it takes to do it and to better understand the challenges involved. It’s like trying to make a video on how to drop a sub frame and all you do is tell them to disconnect the wiring harness and any other thing attached to the engine and loosen the four bolts holding the sub frame, how does that help anyone ?

One of the main reasons I check youtube before a vast majority of fixes. Thanks for the good tips & for documenting this. Another happy Genny just left a random garage in the Catskill Mts NY. In no real rush > Took around 5hrs. Cheers Dave!

Thanks for the info David. This is identical to my 2013 Genesis RSpec 5.0. If you remove the fan assembly there is plenty of space to use a 19mm socket and breaker bar on the belt tensioner. Also, it is a tight squeeze but there is no need to remove any of the rad hoses.

I have a 2013 Genesis 5.0 with 110k miles. Thanks for the video, I just finished doing this job yesterday. Boy this was alot of work and was very helpful to have a friend to help wiggle the alternator out. The alternator is pretty heavy and trying to wiggle it into place while on your back is a real pain. Doug Jackson hits alot of good points about doing this. I'm no expert and would estimate it took me about 6 hours. Most of the time was trying to wiggle the alternator out and putting it in without damaging anything. I used a REMY 11022, instead of the OEM Denso 2100717. The Remy caused me alot of trouble because they put a plastic covering over one of the electrical wire connections and it didnt fit. So i had to shave down the plastic on the REMY to get it on. Not sure what the shop charges, but if you got the money lol just go ahead and take it there.
