I remember the days when we could make fun of each other’s trucks and still be friends! I know… Caleb started it, but what’s your best truck joke?? All in good fun :)
Keep Your Daydream, years ago when I arrived at work with our new 2012 Ford F-250 Diesel King Ranch the head of maintenance came out and was saying how nice the truck looked, etc. he then asked what kind of puppy I picked out at the dealer. I gave him a strange looked and he then explained that Ford always give a new puppy with their new trucks... that way you have some company when you break down. 😂😂
Keep Your Daydream Truck Joke....sure The latest feature on the new 2020 Ford Super Duty is a heated tailgate, it keeps your hands warm when you are pushing it through the snow. The last 10 pages on the Ram owner’s manual list repair shop and rental car agencies addresses and phone numbers. GM trucks are some of the safest trucks on the road, the reason is that they are usually being towed by a tow truck so the tow truck take the brunt of the impact.
I thought your impromptu tow vehicle analysis was interesting and not typically what I see. I live in horse country in Aiken SC so my tow truck decision was based on similar observation. I observed that the horse people pulled their horse trailers with mostly Ford or Dodge/Ram trucks. I saw very few Chevy trucks and a few more GMC trucks. So I concluded that those two brands were the ones to look for as a tow vehicle. If the horse people used them for their expensive horses they would be good enough for me. I ended up with a Dodge 2500 mainly because it was less expensive. Love your channel keep up the good videos!
Went to doctor, doctor said to me " pat, he said, you have been repaired so many times now that you can change your name to ford". Then he handed me the bill, wow.
I can imagine many people will not report that sewage cap damage. So kudos to you both for doing not just the inconvenient thing, but also the right thing. You guys are fabulous.
Hello KYD go to a Caterpillar dealer and get 1U9891 hydraulic oil additive. I’ve been working on hydraulic systems for 40 years and been working with Caterpillar for 30. This additive works great. Not snake oil. Helps your cylinders move in and out when side loaded from unlevel terrain.
Heartland has you list what you want or need fixed so they have a materials list and can create a schedule of all of the work to be completed during the rally. It's actually incredible.
About the wheels off the ground, when I started working as an RV technician I helped prep new units straight from the manufacturer. We check everything to try to find as much wrong before it's sold, including everything that goes through the 7-way connector to be sure it's safe to drive. I asked someone what do you do when auto leveling and the wheels lift off the ground. He said, "Check the brakes before it goes back down!"
I think you should give Caleb his own segment on a show. Filming, commentary, editing, everything. I'm sure it would be very entertaining! ...Caleb did not pay me to say this... :-) Another great video!
Sorry to see the panic, but boy do I feel good that I'm not the only one! :) I'm really glad it worked out and nothing was damaged! This exact situation happened to my wife and I; I had the wheel blocks in (we use the ones that crank down and apply force between the tires) and started leveling the rig when all of a sudden the entire thing started rolling downhill, stabilizers sliding across the ground making a terrible noise. I was standing there in utter shock watching it roll away - I thought we had lost the trailer for sure. Somehow it finally stopped and we got it hooked back up to the truck and put into a better spot. Nowadays I use *both* kind of wheel chocks, the ones that block the wheels on the ground and also the ones that go between the tires. Oh the stories we can tell from experience on the road... Thanks for the video!
Just ordered a KYD hat. As a retired Marine, I think it is outstanding that proceeds from the sale of each cap goes to Toys For Tots. I really enjoy y’all’s videos.
As a person that does a lot of boondocking, always, always, always block it level as much as possible. Also keep some large blocks to put under stabilizer legs. The farther extended they are, the less stable they are.
@ 22:33 I’ve never had so much respect for Marc. I almost shed a tear over him schooling the young lad over non biased reporting. Signed, Ram 2500 owner.

My hubby has had only Dodge Ram Diesel trucks, (Oops, I’m truck brand illiterate as I first wrote GMC) - 3 trucks in nearly forty years. Men love their trucks and are so brand loyal.
We’re doing it! You’ve been an inspiration for me and me wife, actually selling my business of 15 years and want to experience life now instead of something to do “when we retire”. Even if we do it for only a couple years, we have all those experiences and memories! BTW we’re one of the few I’m guessing from Hawaii waiting for out new hats 🧢 😁👍🏽
Nice congrats. Heck, even if you did it for 6 months, you'd never regret it! Just remember, there will be hard days and things will not go to plan, but you'll course-correct along the way and in the end, it will all be good.
Keep Your Daydream Thank you! Yeah, I have no illusions of perfect every day, I know you guys have “those days” that try your patience. No regrets! Too many already and no more lost opportunities or fear of change. Happy Thanksgiving to you all! P.S looking really hard at the grand design 21G and 25G, two of us and our BMWR9T Scrambler. We live pretty small and our apt now is two ft wider and 6 ft longer. I think it’ll be a fairly smooth transition actually and we’d have a patio!!🤗
I.can no longer travel but enjoy your exploits. Your in-depth visits allow greater appreciation of places I visited many years ago. Camping has really changed over the years. My time was much simpler. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve been in the “wheels up”situation before (3 axle XLR toy hauler) and I suffered a SMH moment watching your video! I never even considered the loss of restraint of the chocks! 🤦🏻♂️ I will also be getting boards cut!! Thanks for the video.
I love the truck count. Ha I have a GMC diesel from a Ford sorry. Watch all your videos learning so much. Started this life inJune with my first adventure to Fairbanks AK I was told so not have your wheels off the ground in any event. Lesson learned. I tow a 23’ TT from a 31’ TT Safe travels from the PNW
Keep in mind that you need to have your Jack pads on a level stable surface, I had a center jack slide while leveling and it bent the frame "twisted it actually" ripped the underpinning! And more
Those boards will come in handy when you get stuck as well. Chevy owner whole life. Son in law just bought a new Ford and his instrument panel is identical to my High Country. I would never raise that monster off the ground, that could have been catastrophic! Love your channel you guys are awesome.
I love learning lessons like this one about the auto-leveling system and the wheel chocks. Thanks for sharing that part. I think my favorite thing about the episodes lately is the ending. Marc always finds a smooth point to ease you out ; )
Whoo yeah, off the ground, we learned that one too. Luckily we didn't move. I walked by and thought gee those tires don't look like they're on the ground.... give a push.... oh MY GOSH... they spin. Talk about freaking out. If that had rolled it would have gone right into Lake Superior. We put those stick-on levels on the front, just jump out of the truck see how far off we are and if we can put in in a different spot on the site to get level or get the ole Lynx levelers out and throw a row or two under the tires always be for hitting that auto level. RVing where even something you've done 1000 times before can come up and get ya one day. Always something new to learn. Happy trails!
@@matkurcher9469 normally I would agree, but these 2019 and 2020 are just awesome trucks. Better than GM for sure, better than most Fords. I could have purchased any of the 3 and shopped them all. I was anti Chrysler all this time... they stepped up where Ford and GM gave up
Yes, we’re hooked on the Grand Design Rallys. Started with our ‘17 Reflection 307MKS/F-350 SRW, continues with our 2020 Momentum 351M/F-450. Two GD National Rallies, two GD east coast rallies, soon our first Arizona Quartzsite GD Rally in Jan. Definitely agree with making friends, helping each other, enjoy camping with our GD groups and looking forward to seeing them again in the future. Can’t say enough about KYD influence on getting us re-started in RV’ng. Love watching your family experiences and exploring the country together. I am extremely grateful for you sharing how to do the water heater flush, I'm sure mine hasn't been done in years? So awesome to see an actual tech do it. Thank you
I’m always amazed at how positive you all stay !! I love the content and admire you’re ability to keep calm even when things aren’t going right ... I need to learn a thing or two from y’all lol
We stayed at their fairgrounds. Beautiful place. The people were really great. We didn't know the FMCA was having a rally. The person from the Fair board let us park in the "vendors" area. Then, she gave us a tour and history lesson of the fair grounds.
When I back into a site I scroll through my auto level until I find my current level ...will tell you in degrees how far off it is front to back and side to side ..this does two things for me ..How to set my drops legs ( electric auto level) and whether of not I need to run one side up onto leveling blocks ..anything over 1.5% off left to right will lift the tires off the ground ....
We have auto level on our Newmar. Not a fan always raises the coach too much. We level as much as we can with Hosspads under tires first then manual level with hydraulic jacks. It allows us to extend the jacks way less. Takes an extra few minutes, but it’s better overall. Glad you didn’t damage the jacks. Izzy
We always put our chocks on the rearmost axle and on both sides for this very reason! We all learn through oh shoot moments. Glad they were all there to help out.
Mama said there would be days like this, lol, but it is really how you handle them that makes all the difference and you and Trish always hand issues with such grace. Glad no damage was done with the leveling stuff. People are passionate about their trucks. lol We are Ford people, my late husband used to tease my brother when he pulled in our driveway with his Chevy truck telling him to get that Chevy out of his driveway. lol What ever truck one likes, there is a joke for it I'm sure. Loved the video and learning about cleaning the hot water tank. Who knew-I guess RV'ers know. I learn so much from all even though I don't own an RV. Hugs, Brenda
We had a 5th wheel and we had the same problem with uneven ground, that's why we bough a 40 foot class A and have not had that problem any more due most rallies place the motorhomes on more level spots. We finally got to hate our 5th wheel. We have had our motorhome for 2 years and love it. We did get a 400 hp diesel lots of power.
QUESTION: 1st Nice video, What type of cell phone holder do you have on your dash above your vents! I use a magnet type currently but really would like one that others could use too.
It looks like a Proclip. Best holders out there IMHO. If you have a case on your phone, make sure you measure and get the right size, they don't all have a lot of adjustment. For mounts, you can look at ProClip, Panavise, or Bracketron for dependable quality mounting solutions.
You gave excellent examples of DATA MANIPULATION. Today as Covid19 cases are on the increase, we find that the data reported by different sources often conflict with each other. Thanks for helping folks understand how and why this happens. Kudos. God Bless and stay well. *just found your stuff*
Goldens are such a sweet bunch. Have had and raised Goldens for 55 years now (wow) Mom and Dad were some of the first to have the imported English Goldens. I wish they would have a sub category for them though...........the gold color has been pretty well bred out of them. Either way.......a Golden is a Golden........ you just can't find a better addition to the family
It took me several months, but I have binged what all 7 seasons and an now current! Now I have to wait for the next video to come out like everyone else! Love your family, your journeys, and all the experience! Keep’um coming! 👍😀
I learned the hard way on this. Best to carry blocks to stack under the jacks so your tires stay on the ground while also keeping less of the jack extended out aiding in keeping your rig a lot more stable.
We have always been Ford people, but we also noticed a lot of Rams out west when we were there!! We have not been convinced to convert however, still happy with the old girl...
Lots of good RV info Mark, good job and Trish your food looks terrific! Will have to try those tomato things. Regards trucks: I drive a 1996 Dodge Dakota with a Magnum V-8 5.2 engine in it and pull my Cherokee Wolf Pup effortlessly. Favorite sayings: “It it ain’t MOPAR it’s no car!” and “ If ya can’t Dodge’em, Ram’em!”. All in fun!!!!!!
You can get level indicators with sticking backing and install them on the side of you RV. If you install two of them it will let you know level the ground is. We use on them on our utility trucks.
Went to the forest river rally last year.Nice to have all the tech people there. . We were down by the racetrack track( full hookup) enjoy the week but once was enough for us.
Hey Marc. I always chock the wheels with rubber chocks on the "high side" of an un-level site. That way if the wheels do lift, it's the ones on the other side. I do use a board(s) if there is more than a couple of inches difference. I always use an x-chock on both sides as well. Also use 6" blocks under the front jacks so they don't have to extend so far- less extension, more stability I think. Another great video!
Norm: Roger on the blocks. I use them under all my jacks. As stated, the stability issue is somewhat reduced due to shorter extensions of the jacks. But as importantly, should I completely disregard my check list and do a "Homer Simpson" and move the truck, the probability of jack bend is significantly reduced. Finally on really really un-level sites, I have extras to stack on the low side. When in doubt about stability, keep the trailer chained to the truck and if possible hitched to the truck.
Mark first I would like to say that my wife and I love to camp and you and your family are the main reason that we will be heading cross country multiple times in the near future. But now on a more serious note. Watch the video at 10:07-10:08 and right by your marker light by the door you can see the side panel move and hear a noise at the same time. Just thought you might want to check that area a little closer in case you missed it. Again thank you for your inspiration. We never miss an episode.
I agree. The video did not portray how unbelievable scary it was to have an RV that big move toward us. In fact, had that right arm bent, it could have come crashing down. Very lucky and I won't come close to making this mistake again. It's actually at the dealer now getting a few items updated and they will check the entire system.
Did the board thing for years to level side to side. With the triple axle it's a pain because not only is the board like 8' long to store/handle, but you have to pull up 10'. It's hard to judge the angle the trailer will turn over 10' if your truck isn't straight and we'd always end up with the back tires not centered on the board. Now we just use levelers. Pull up 8 inches instead and place 1 or 3 levelers behind each tire then back up 8 inches. Keeps you out of the roadway most of the time too. Plus levelers are cheap, light and take up less space. Although I'll admit we bought the cheap yellow ones and the heavy rig smashes them up a bit in rocks.
I am just starting to learn about trailer life. You two, and your family have become not just my resource, but my daily entertainment. Thank you so much and congrats on 400k!
Love the truck jokes. It’s funny how offended some people get when you bash their TV! 😂😂. I’m a GMC guy, but I like them all, especially that new F250 Lariat Sport (powerstroke of course)! Your truck is a beast!!! 💪🏻💪🏻
Ignore the trolls lol. So much hate going around. I'm glad you guys are willing to share your lessons and be vulnerable as it is helping someone like me who hasn't gone RV'ing yet but is going to here in a few weeks.
Go to a tractor supply and get a horse stall pad. You can cut it into strips a little wider than your tires. They are made form recycled tires. They are 1 inch thick and last forever. If you need to stack them they won't slide.
We attended our first rally at the Elkhart County Fairgrounds about a week after you were there. Ours was the Montana rally. We learned so much! Very glad we went. We found most of the seminars were not necessarily brand specific but very helpful as we prepare to go Fulltime in about a year. We have since bought a DRV Mobile Suites and look forward to attending some to the SOITC rallys.
We used to use boards to level but too bulky to carry around. We have a 2019 3740BH S Class and use Anderson levelers and they work great. They save room and its fast and easy. Thank you for sharing.
Elkhart County Fairgrounds is a very nice facility. Been there for two Heartland rallys. We have stayed in the Infield and we have a stay on Ring Road. As far as your first oops, stuff happens. You did the right thing for reporting. As far as your second oops, I have never done that. I will keep that in mind.
I know I’m late to the party, it’s Feb. ‘20 wanted to say -awesome video!! Great info, delicious looking food and when my 2020 Forest River is ready to be replace, I’ll sell a kidney and move into the Grand Design neighborhood. That rally- just wow. A pit crew of techs swoop in addition to the issue at hand, lets check out the entire rig while we’re here. That my friends is quality service after the sale.
wish we could find a couple like u guys that share some of the interest while camping, not to mention someone who is still learning the processes of their rig.... we just went from bumper to 5er' so I am in the learning process all over again.... safe travels yo y'all
To bad you guys had a rough start to get to your rally. It was great that you guys checked in at the office and workout that broken sewer cap issue. Most folks would have just left. Great video and information. Sorry Caleb that you little Ford bubble got popped. LOL! Just kidding Ford trucks are ok I don’t have an issue with Ford trucks. Very glad the front jacks are ok. You guys have a great trip and drive safe. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
I use the wheel X chock on both sides works great. I forgot to take them off one time and pulled forward a little and wondered why the tiers were not turning.
My experience is trucking not RV, but I always looked all around my truck for anything I might cut a tire on or snag a bumper on. Pretty much a 50 ft. box all the way around my truck. The sharp stuff down low and the stuff up high is the worst because it's not where you normally look. Great video. I am sure your example will make others more aware and more safe.
You should really invest in X-Chock. They are really nice for stabilizing and not having the trailer move. First comment ever on TH-cam. Love you Channel. Keep making videos!!!
Mark, so impressed how you keep your cool under bad situations. I would have turned into Hulk or something. Lol. We can all definetly take a lesson from you two.

Izzy
I always try to level side to side as close as I can before I hit auto level. Don't feel comfortable with wheels off the ground.
Yeah that's a great idea! I've accidentally pulled a tire off once.
17' GMC Duramax right here!! The best, obviously!
Our little dachshund also has an appetite for books.....I feel your pain
Well read....
We always put our chocks on the rearmost axle and on both sides for this very reason! We all learn through oh shoot moments. Glad they were all there to help out.
Hint: Always level rig left and right with wheel blocks/lifts !! This is true with all trailer/5thWheel/etc.
This was such an interesting video - lots of useful information for rv-era - thank you!
Yeah great video!
Would like to know this answer as well. Seems very stable.
I trashed two in the last two days. Pls share, it looked so sturdy and easy to get in and out.
I wanted to ask the same question!
It looks like a Proclip. Best holders out there IMHO. If you have a case on your phone, make sure you measure and get the right size, they don't all have a lot of adjustment. For mounts, you can look at ProClip, Panavise, or Bracketron for dependable quality mounting solutions.
See what happens when your honest. Great work guys. Love the videos. Luckiest Kid ever!!
"WE DON'T MANIPULATE THE DATA SON" LOL
😂😂😂
You gave excellent examples of DATA MANIPULATION. Today as Covid19 cases are on the increase, we find that the data reported by different sources often conflict with each other. Thanks for helping folks understand how and why this happens. Kudos. God Bless and stay well. *just found your stuff*
Boards are good (and cheap), but Andersen levelers are easier to stow.
Chevy and GMC are the same truck. They are made in the same plant.
If you think it’s unfair add Lincoln’s to the survey.
It took me several months, but I have binged what all 7 seasons and an now current! Now I have to wait for the next video to come out like everyone else! Love your family, your journeys, and all the experience! Keep’um coming! 👍😀
Nice! 👍 Sorry you have to wait now :)
What kind of cellphone holder do you have in your truck
I learned the hard way on this. Best to carry blocks to stack under the jacks so your tires stay on the ground while also keeping less of the jack extended out aiding in keeping your rig a lot more stable.
Chevrolet ftw for towing our fifth wheel.
We have always been Ford people, but we also noticed a lot of Rams out west when we were there!! We have not been convinced to convert however, still happy with the old girl...
Auto industry has changed over the years and now RAM is owned by Fiat-Italian made, GM=China Motors but Ford is still good old American made.!!!
As of 2019 the Honda Ridgeline is said to be the most American made truck, if you can consider that a truck.
This Michigan family only drives Lincoln/Ford. 😀
My Ford pickup was built in Canada. I had a Ford car. All the parts were made in Mexico.
I run into more Rams than anything else. Doesn't seem right.
Look at ford f series sales numbers vs Ram. It'll make perfect sense.
"See ya next Sunday" reminds me of something my grandmother used to say. "See ya in the funny papers" meaning the same thing.
GMC - Gotta Mechanic Coming.
Dodge - Drips Oil Drops Grease Everywhere
Donald Hooker haha... to add to that...
Ford - Fix Or Repair Daily. Lol
Don't forget Ford- found on road dead
Ford found on Road dead 👊👍😎
First On Race Day
90% of Fords are still on the road today, the other 10% made it home.
I learn so much watching you guys. It was cool to see our friend Chris who was one of the technitions that helped you in this video. Safe travels
dodge got its name for dodging broke down fords and Chevy's on the hwy .
If you can't dodge em,, Ram em
You mean dodging the hard work and heavy towing? 😁
Drops Oil Drips Grease Everywhere
Caleb is a superstar, don’t worry Mark, we will still let you be in the videos.
Okay, here’s my truck joke:
Q: Who are the best mechanics?
A: Ford owners.
Q: Know how you fix a FORD?
A: Buy a Chevy.
You hit the nail on the head! Oh yea, I'm a proud ford owner lol
Fix Or Repair Daily?
I have always really admired Grand Design RV. They would be at the top of our list if/when we change our 5er.
I'd rather be a Cummins than a strokin.
You can get level indicators with sticking backing and install them on the side of you RV. If you install two of them it will let you know level the ground is. We use on them on our utility trucks.
FORD , first on race day, 😁
Went to the forest river rally last year.Nice to have all the tech people there. . We were down by the racetrack track( full hookup) enjoy the week but once was enough for us.
Just so you don't feel bad about being a Ford owner. Jesus was a Ford man as well....He walked everywhere he went :)
Lol. Original and good :)
FORD spelled backwards is Driver Returns On Foot
I agree less extension = more stability
only good thing ford did was
to circle the problem
It was great to see Chris and Jack helping you out with the jacks, they are awesome!
Ford = Ford Owners Recommend Dodge 💁🏼♀️
If you don't own a Ford, you don't really own a truck.
You guys are strong. I would have burst into tears.
WOW!!! That was nerve wrecking!!! But what a great location to have this happen. Lucky it stopped at that. :)
Most campers would of not even said a word about breaking that sewer cap...props for owning it and reporting it.
Welcome to the comment section. Yes, I had them on the Reflection. I guess I thought Toy Giner was too big, but I think I'll get them again.
I’m shocked there aren’t more Ram Trucks!
Mark, so impressed how you keep your cool under bad situations. I would have turned into Hulk or something. Lol. We can all definetly take a lesson from you two.
It only took me 42 years! ;)
