Italian Shops at Whole Foods for the First Time | Italian Shops in America
My wife, Eva, is Italian and takes food pretty seriously. Maybe too seriously. She's not very open-minded when it comes to cuisine, so I thought I would take her to Whole Foods for the first time and see what she thinks of their "alternative health pastas."
You can see Eva trying the pasta here: • Italian Tries American...

Your wife reminds me of these Greek women I used work with at a restaurant. All of your wife's mannerisms and talk about food reminds me of them. A lot of European cultures take their food seriously. Right down to specific herbs and spices. Has to be authentic as well.

I have been to Italy over 10 times. The food I ate there was among the very best worldwide, but my experience is that generally Italians are very picky and do exaggerate extremely when trying foreign food. I made a Pasta Pollo al Limone in Perugia following for 100% the recipe (la ricetta) from a kind local nonna. When my Italian neighbours saw me cooking they started laughing. A German man cooking Italian food was next to impossible. I also made fresh pasta myself. I asked them to try the pollo al limone and all of them took a first bite with great caution, as if was about to poison them. It took them minutes to find out it tasted good. Great people, great food, great country, but boy......it takes hours convincing them others besides nonna can cook too.

I'm italian, to me french wine is among the best. I live in Spain, here they have ok wines, but it's not even close. Italian and French wines can compete quality-wise. I have tried italian wines that are amazing and not too expensive (from Apulia, Sicily, Campania, Tuscany, Piedmont, Veneto). But in France wines are usually very good in average, even relatively cheap ones. Unfortunately I haven't tried the upper price tag kinds (+200€ per bottle) in neither country, for obvious reasons. I'm sure they're all beyond good.

The feta cheese is dry like chalk, the parm is cardboard, the yogurt has a weird powder texture, the chocolate tastes stale...and I'm not talking about some cheap brand I'm talking about their top brands. My husband's family is "Italian". I made him a lasagna and now he won't eat his mom's lasagna as mine beats it. I wish more people had time to cook and explore different tastes and food.
