    I watched an interview with a bigwig from Dodge about the Demon170. He specifically said that vehicles actually purchased by customers will be made 1st while vehicles ordered by dealers would be made last. The thought was that Dodge could control dealer markups by creating the risk that a dealer that would mark the price might run out of time for their allotted cars to be made. While the dealers are being jerks, people paying the extra price are not helping either.

    • @MarspeedCars
      @MarspeedCars  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yeah I left that part out and didn’t mention Demon 170 markups here because I might do a video just on that…you’re exactly right. I know Dodge does not intentionally want to fleece customers and price gauge them, but this allocation system was pretty stupid imo and opened the door for the other models to be priced through the roof and sit there waiting for the highest bidder which is exactly what’s happening. I don’t have an alternative solution though 🤷🏻‍♂️

      They backed themselves into a corner no matter what. They stated itd be a limited run, and the most powerful ever.
      So they made a more powerful car, but have to consider it a demon to have it remain a demon thats the most powerful: but then they break the promise of limitation;
      Or they make something new as to not break the limitation promise: but then out do the demon.
      They basically picked how theyd be sued later. Because either way, thats what theyll be getting. It might even be the reason Stellantis pulls the plug on the brand altogether.

    The dealership I go to I've never paid over sticker and in fact I pay under sticker. The Challenger I have now I paid $100 over invoice and this was an ordered car for me so it wasn't even a vehicle that was sitting on their lot for months and months. This is a small family owned Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/RAM dealership with maybe 25-30 new cars on the lot at any one time, sometimes less. These are the dealerships I like going to, not these huge multi-million dollar corporation dealerships with 100 dealerships around the US with different manufacturers. These are the ones that screw you over and they don't necessarily care about keeping you as a customer because they know there's another sucker who will just come in and buy a car from them.
    The small family owned dealerships depend on word of mouth, trust, and will do anything to keep you as a customer because it's extremely important to them in order to remain in business. And yes, they still make a healthy profit to survive without screwing over their customers. There is a way! I even make deals over the phone with a trade-in value without them even seeing the car because they know how good I take care of the vehicle and we trust each other. And I didn't have to spend 3hrs in the dealership going back and forth between 2 people and then go see a finance manager for another hour while they try to sell more shit to you that you don't want. These are the trust relationships dealers need to build with people. Not greed and with more greed on top.
    So yeah because of their size and sales numbers they don't get the chance to sell a last call model of hardly anything but these are the dealerships I wish existed everywhere. Most dealerships these days are too big and too corporatized. They have too much power over both the manufacturer and the customer. It's a damn shame what the dealership model has become these days.

    I paid $5,000 below MSRP for a hellcat redeye Challenger. I physically went to at least five dealers with money and walked away from each one. I was home one day when I was calling around to other dealers and I asked them do they mark up? And if they do I won't bother coming down. One dealer replied no we don't. I replied I'll be right down.
    Last weekend I met a Porsche dealer that was bragging about charging his customers for over 200,000 over list. I looked him right in the face and said "you can fleece a sheep a thousand times but you can only skin him once.".. I mean what do these dealers think? the customers actually going to come back for a second helping? Yeah none of this will come back to haunt us... And our customers will remain loyal. It is messed up that the Demon and Hellcat Durango were marketed as limited run, one yr exclusive vehicles. But all it would take if for Dodge to be let off the hook is to have fine print somewhere that states 'production can change at any point in the future without notice' (many promotions have this type of language in the details). In terms of the HP locator, there's not much that can be done bc of the sales model most manufacturers are locked into. Dealers are permitted to charge whatever they want for vehicles. I will say this too...the Demon 170 is a six figure car(MSRP after destination charge). Although a bargain for the amount of power, you get, your average Joe isn't buying that car. The other last call models are glorified appearance packages that are optioned out. Imo, you'd be foolish to pay a significant markup for those. Again, if you're a collector with deep pockets, go right ahead. The car market has cooled off in recent months, but it's still not a buyer's market and these Dodge vehicles are "luxury buys". Buyer beware!

      @ducktails1695 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well to Dodge's defense here, they're just trying to make sure they have what they need in order to build the vehicles for this last year. There's only so many vehicles they can build within a certain amount of time this year. This was their way of making sure everyone who wants the vehicle to have a "chance" at getting one. Otherwise, they may run into an issue of over orders and they can't make them before the end of the year which would also piss customers off. This also makes it so they know they can make every single vehicle as they know exactly how many parts they need to order so they don't have too many parts, or not enough parts to build a specific vehicle. All that shit has to be figured out in advance, not on the fly as orders come in. Like I said Dodge can only build so many cars in a year and the Brampton Ontario manufacturing plant builds more than just Chargers and Challengers. They also build the Chrysler 300 as well which further eliminates manufacturing capacity. Any way they would have done it dealerships would have marked up the sticker because anyway you look at it, they're still all last call models whether they build 1000 of one or 10,000.
      On the flip side yes, it does build hype and they've certainly done that within the community. There are pluses and negatives to everything you do. Dealerships will always find a way to screw over customers for their own profit.

      But then you're just encouraging dealerships to continue unnecessarily marking up vehicles because they know Dodge will just reimburse the customer. They should instead somehow fine a dealership for the amount marked up so the dealer doesn't get to keep that money. Or, maybe if Dodge see's they marked a vehicle up $20,000 their next order for that dealer will cost them $20,000 more or something like that. They have to think of a way to keep dealers from marking up vehicles and the biggest way I can think of is to eliminate their extra profit off a sale. I'm all for a dealership making a profit. It keeps them in business as dealerships are not cheap to run correctly. That being said, screwing customers over by charging $25,000-50,000 over MSRP is just ridiculous.

    Besides the fact that Dodge is clearly nuts to be selling these cars for Supercar money, if people are willing to shell out the cash (or obligate themselves to paying monthly mortgage payments for a car), more power to ‘em!
    Still, there is no way in Hellcat land that I would pay used Ferrari money to buy the third-best of three “American” pony-cars that are currently available.
    I also believe that Dodge does not have a legal leg to stand on in the lawsuit issue. They clearly misrepresented their intentions as well as the collectabilities and market values of both of these vehicles in question.

    Dodge has been doing this for years. Part of the reason I sold my SRT charger was because it looked like every other V6 on the road. They constantly water down there top-of-the-line performance brands to other lesser brands and one offs to make them sell better. Anybody that didn’t see this coming with the demon are fooling themselves. It’s guaranteed profits for them. It’s also prime reason my TRX will be the last mopar product I ever buy.

    Let off the hook, no. But quite frankly a vehicle is very seldom an investment. Even if they had not built new Demons and Durango Hellcats those original vehicles may or may not have held their value. There is no guarantee as it is all speculative. You buy and you takes your chances. As far as new Hemi Dodges, I was understanding come the new year, the plant they are made at will be completely reconfigured for new product. Kind of hard to do a classic then. Plus the real culprit is the increasingly strident EPA requirements. Actually I would have loved to see all automakers get together and sue the government for unrealistic standards. Also show how BEVs do NOT reduce environmental (at least not by much) impact on a net net basis taking into consideration Lithium mining and battery disposal. Unfortunately I think Dodge is all but dead. Yes the jury is still out on the Hornet, but come on. Dodge spent all this money on being a performance car maker. The Hornet just does not even look the part. The final nail will be the BEV which I still say is a niche vehicle. They should have taken that technology they put into the Hurricane straight six and put it into a brand new Hemi (real Hemi, not the partial we have now) V8. But this is just one mans opinion here.

When the market loses products, the price goes up. It’s like anything else. Blame the current administration for policy that caused a shortage. The dealer is just trying to make up for future losses of revenue as these dealers will have to commit to 10’a of millions of dollars to convert to EV status because of this administration. THINK ABOUT IT!!!!
