Oh man! What a find! I adore Chet, and the vibraphone is one of my favorite jazz instruments - never heard of Lackerschmid until now. This is lovely music. Lonely and sad too, like so much of Chet's work, but a kind of sadness that is warm and comfortable.

Who really cares? Does it really matter? Miles or. Chet....take your choice. One taught me everything I know about playing Contemporary music (CHET) the other was amaster of his instrument.....I am just so happy that I was able to be influenced by 2 Legends. Look around now.......name me 2 horn players that are influencing the world on Contemporary music like these two.....just be happy....sit back and listen...for me at 84 years and having played with both (mostly Chet)...who cares??????

Well Chet is a great jazz musician, but Miles is from another planet. There’s two bookends of jazz: Louis and Miles.

I think the problem with a lot of critiques of Chet that aren't about his well known drug issues is that somehow they think other trumpeters like Miles are 'authentic' jazz players - it is almost parallel to the way many also critique say Bill Evans vs Hancock etc. But whilst nobody denies Miles great talents Chet, like Evans, has a modality of playing that cuts to the heart, emotions, or whatever it is about human consciousness that we label 'feeling' . Kinda of Cool yes great music but the pain, ache, and contextual story of Chet somehow imbue his playing with this inner cry. If it moves you its art.

Mir gehr es genau so. Chet Bakers Trompetenspiel, wie seine Stimme scheinen aus seiner tiefsten Seele zu kommen. Und genau dort berühren Sie mich auch. Wundervoll!!! ☃️☃️☃️

What a beautiful album. I always love the way chet play, the tune, his tone. He doesn't display lots of running notes like others, but displays feelings that can be felt just by listening to it :)

'This kept being interesting since I buyed it 40 years ago. Lacki is the most sensitive vibraphonist I know till now.

I've seen Chet live 3 times. The concert with Wolfgang Lackerschmid was just magic. Better than the record (that was recorded before the tour). And from the concert, I didn't have the feeling that he was playing out of a cage. He definitely enjoyed playing that night. Rare to see Chet smile. I still think there is no better version of Blue Bossa available. No overplaying, just a fraction of the original's notes. I can't understand the criticism. No one could play it like that.
I have also experienced Chet on drugs in a concert in Paris - stopping in the middle of a solo, leaving the stage. Then coming back after 10 minutes he tried to make his way into the tune again. THAT was sad! The goosebumps I get from Blue Bossa come from bliss, the ones I had on the evening in Paris from deep sadness.

When this LP came out, there was a lot of criticism - like this is not Jazz. And it was considered as reference copy by the guys who really know how sound has to, well sound.
I tried a lot of things, but only when the CD version came out, I could listen to it whithout these ringinging tones. By now I have got a Musser in my loft - so I know what a vibe shoud sound.
Get this on a CD, listen to it on a good equipment - and you will be listening to the best record done, ever!

what a precious work of art.....nobody expresses deep feelings like chet, in a constructive way....healing,
miles is also a genius, but more for the angry type, lot of hate and destruction involved, also innovation, i admet.
but chet is/was a soft, lovely artist, his music is an endless search for love and tenderness 💕👍
