So much poignant, thought provoking insight, that I already knew they have, just from the Years of watching their shows, and listening to the them as such profound People. It's like they went to another level with it here, and you can see how they bounce off each other with such flawless transition. Their stories about the MPAA and others like it have taught me the important distinction between censorship and creative control. Getting the privilege to create exactly what you want is rare, but it's likely. What's NOT likely is whether or not the people who said you could do it will SHOW it. Think of all of the great movies that became cult classics on home video but had zero promotion in their theatrical run, or TV shows which became a hit in reruns but weren't popular enough to sustain multiple seasons. It's not just about having a voice, it's about someone else letting you hold the microphone.

I was trying to learn english at a very young age and pronunciation, of course, was the difficult part. So, as a teen I started watching South Park and my brain got so used to the American language that I learned pronunciation really fast.. also american slang and history, and not only american stuff, tbh. I always got curious about things they said or did and had to search for them on the internet and they've expanded my interest in learning cool stuff (till this very day).. so, the best part was learning while having a good laugh xD these guys are geniuses and their creation has touched me a lot. I also had a huge crush on Matt Stone (and I think I still have it) ❤️
That's so cool haha, I did similar, not with a whole language, that's amazing haha......But with me being from the Uk, I learnt a lot about US Slang, Culture and just generally everything through hearing things on Southpark and then being interested enough to do research on anything and everything they were talking about over the Years 🙂
It's amazing they figured Subway wouldn't want to advertise for the Jared episode then just a few years later in the WoW episode they featured Best Buy by brand name and not even a week later, Best Buy had an employee training video that featured that clip from the show.
I was born 1984, I watched my first episode in prison 2010 and absolutely loved it. Since then I have watched southpark every morning and night. Ive seen every single episode about 10 times more or less. I dont care about Trey Parkers and Matt Stones other movies and video clips much, all I care about is the fact that southpark is the best thing that ever happened to entertaining.
Whenever Trey and Matt discuss the industry, they always have something very intelligent and insightful to say that no one else in show business even has the balls to bring up. Even today, I can't think of anyone who are more cutting edge than these two were back in the day. South Park nowadays may be a mixed bag of quality (in my opinion at least), but Trey and Matt's principles that are encapsulated by those first 8-9 seasons hold up so extremely well, especially today. It also really just goes to show in retrospect just how far standards and practices have come in the past 20 years when it comes to how far you're able to push the envelope on TV, and what you can and can't do. If it weren't for these guys, things would be probably still be so much more restrictive in terms of creative expression.
@@dinglemaniac1541 I absolutely agree. I think my assumption about it is that it has more to do with the current form of it just being from a different cultural and ideological shift rather than from their own end like how it was, and that those people in particular who discuss it don't really take that into perspective.

Summer 1997, I was flipping through the channels, I saw these round headed cartoons, it caught my attention. I didn't flip the channel. 23 years later and I'm still a fan. Is not as fresh as back on the days but it's still pretty funny to me.
I was lucky enough to be able to see The Book of Mormon on Broadway during its original run in 2011, and I strongly believe the perceived (by me, and potentially others) dip in quality of South Park during seasons 12-14 was because the musical was their primary focus. Then after they got that "out of their system" the show's quality ticked back up a little, but as time has continued to go on the show has lost a bit of its bite. Completely inevitable in my opinion, and they've created over 2 dozen seasons by this point and as time goes on the quality is going to continue to be lowered as they just flat out run out of potential ideas and jokes. I sincerely hope they identify a good stopping point and end the show with dignity (with a season long plot that sums up the show's amazing run in a deserving way) as opposed to just having the show stop airing out of nowhere. These guys are geniuses but eventually every concept runs its course.
@Amanda J Nice! I saw it a total of 3 times, with the first time being the OG run on broadway with the original cast and the second 2 times in San Diego on subsequent runs with new casts. I'd say the traveling runs capture 90-95% of the original magic. The only lost components are the undeniably amazing OG cast (although I feel like the traveling casts are still damn good) and a few minor special effects that were designed for the Eugene O'Neill theater and couldn't be easily adapted to the changing sets they'd be seeing on the road. Some shows you can't truly say you've seen with a full heart unless you saw the original run, but I feel like The Book of Mormon is not one of them. I'll see it again the next time it comes through SD, and don't feel like it's any major dip in quality over the original. I mean obviously Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells were one in a billion stars, but it's still excellent without them.

I've actually never seen anything like this.......to this level. I'm finding it hard to even describe what I mean.......It's almost like they've dumbed themselves down for everything prior to this publicly, even if just a little....Then, in this instance, it was literally full expert mode or nothing at all.
So much poignant, thought provoking insight, that I already knew they have, just from the Years of watching their shows, and listening to the them as such profound People.
It's like they went to another level with it here, and you can see how they bounce off each other with such flawless transition. They beautifully complement each others strengths and weakness's when it comes to getting their point across, and you can see why it was just a perfect storm for something that was going to be so World changingly brilliant.
As Matt has said "Trey is the Chef" and the creative mastermind, and you can see from this that Matt is the intellectual precision that keeps everything afloat.......True genius is hard to come by.........Two together, achieves the impossible.
I feel like I've just sucked off the whole fuckin' dictionary writing this haha, but in all honesty.......my passion for these Guys, with them being my Life growing up.....They were the perfect cement inbetween Humour and Real Life, to grow up understanding and respecting the difference between the two.
Great interview, this is a great show and Matt and Trey are heroes for free speech.
Great upload, thank you.
Amazingly interesting, intelligent, informative, entertaining, and real! Great dudes working great art magic!
Makes ya feel good about being human! Thanks dudes!

Moo01100 the last? Is the world ending tomorrow or something lmao
@GENERAL DISARRAY'S BOSS 83 You're kind of right. Dems and Repubs are two factions of the corporate, military wing, the only political wing this country has.
Horseshoe centrists be like
Great conversation! Trey and Matt are uniquely qualified to speak about First Amendment rights. National treasures, those boys are!
I LOVE these men, they've opened my eyes from an early age to the libertarian way!
Chris O'Donnell this is a joke right?
They have actually stated multiple times that they are republicans.
Yeah they’re republican.... and conservative and socialist and libertarian and the rest or maybe they think all of it has its good and fucking stupid points too. They fully get balance.
@@WombatLoveAffair show me once
Matt and Trey have stated they have no political affiliation. They do lean libertarian. They are by no means Republicans, though.
South Park hasn't appealed or spoken to me in over 10 years now, but it moulded me, my moral compass and who I am today as a person, it may not talk to me anymore, and may be the voice of a new generation, but it's still one of the biggest influences on me and who I am today and I will always love Trey and Matt for this.
This comment reminds me of the insurance commercials when you become your parents after becoming a homeowner
Oh come now…. Lol. Did you grow up and lose your sense of humor?
Honestly don’t even love South Park like some people do, but I admire the show because if I happen to see it on CC, I’m usually witnessing something outrageous and brilliant that nobody else would dare animate and air. And Matt and Trey are really admirable advocates of free speech.
Love these guys . ....thank you for saying what everyone is really thinking...you guys are brilliant
Holy fuckin shit I thought I recognized this guy I took one of his classes at college. History of the recording industry
Blazing Saddles is a great movie.
They're so lucky to have a boss like that. The CEO is totally fine with them doing anything :D
dark4krad except showing The Prophet M######d
There was no real problem on their part on showing Muhammad. It was just that they were scared they would be bombed by terrorists if they did.
They literally talk for 5 minutes about how he censored their subway episode. Where were you during that 5 minutes
@@user-nh1og5hy1u I dont think he was being literal in the sense that 100% of everything is ok. I would say just watching this they had/have a great relationship with divney

Heard about a woman named Sherry Lansing in this interview. Googled her. What a woman.
1:10 so cute how matt cracks up trey, ive seriously never seen him laugh so hard 😂 endearing friendship!
Man this guy who heads Comedy Central or whatever seems pretty cool he seems like he really gets and cares about what makes South Park South Park
As long as the world stays such a screwed up place then matt and trey will never run out of material to use!
I respect those two men they stand their ground with their beliefs

"The MPAA is just there it's like STAR Chamber"
- Matt Stone
What a reference...
If they thought PC was bad back then...I wonder if I time traveled back to 2002, and told them what 2017 PC was like, if they would believe it.
hey its 2021 how r u feeling
What about Mac tho?
It 2024 and now we just don’t even question it
Hope they do more movies
To think of all the stuff they've done SINCE this interview.
this was super insightful and their comments on freedom of speech are ahead of its time.
One of my favorite things about Matt and Trey is how they basically represent Colorado in so many ways
26:30 Priceless when they'e both laughing with each other. Funniest guys ever.
Matt and Trey are my life heroes the amount of laughter they give me is unreal! They make the world seem not so bad :)

"And you've got this big corporation..." Sounds like Michael Moore in Team America
"See, you've got these big corporations who sit in their corporation buildings and they're all corporation-y"
Love the end credits
1:08 bruh I hope I find a friend like this one day. They are literally always making each other laugh and they’re still friends after working together for like 30 years
Loved that he mentioned Kids in the Hall. Brilliant.
nice to see how much the boys can still make each other laugh!
jared has aides
He should become a doctor then
He just thinks EVERYONE should have aides. Let's give aides to children and people in need. Aides can give everyone a new chance to be great.
its ''AIDS''....maybe stop watching southpark....
@@seangina8097 In the episode it's about his AIDES... work aides... but the joke is that everyone thinks he is telling them that the reason he got thin is from AIDS, but he really means his assistants helped him lose weight.
HE'S STILL LOOKIN' GOOOOOOD
I miss “Win Ben Steins money”. Ben was great!
I also had a huge crush on Matt Stone (and I think I still have it) ❤️
That's so cool haha, I did similar, not with a whole language, that's amazing haha......But with me being from the Uk, I learnt a lot about US Slang, Culture and just generally everything through hearing things on Southpark and then being interested enough to do research on anything and everything they were talking about over the Years 🙂
South Park is the best thing ever on TV.
It's amazing they figured Subway wouldn't want to advertise for the Jared episode then just a few years later in the WoW episode they featured Best Buy by brand name and not even a week later, Best Buy had an employee training video that featured that clip from the show.
Twenty years later still going strong as ever. They are miraculous in their consistency.
+Golden Arts Team America is GOLD!
Word dude,i was born in 1990 & i would sing the uncle fucker song at school. Great show
813lynch same here nov 1...so I grew up on that shit that and Celerity Death Match Beavis and Butthead
Havent seen Team America for 10+ years so I dont really remember.
MovieHound17 hahha holy shit man, celebrity death match and Beavis and butthead, where the fuck has time gone
Your final point is exactly why I don't understand when people say cancel culture is worse now than it was in the 90's.
@@dinglemaniac1541 I absolutely agree. I think my assumption about it is that it has more to do with the current form of it just being from a different cultural and ideological shift rather than from their own end like how it was, and that those people in particular who discuss it don't really take that into perspective.
@@dinglemaniac1541 I'm so depressingly tired of hearing words melted into internet slang, pretty much formed into a meme, and then taken on seriously by the mass media thinking it's edgy............"Cancel" and "Toxic" are prime examples......What happened to "Fuck off" and "Psycho".
I'm only 30 Years old dagfuckin' nabbit! I aint' no "Boomer" yet hahaha, use to be a great name if you worked in or owned a garage. 🙄

what year is this?
kilte90 2002-2003, they mentioned episodes made after 99/2000
okey thanks guys! :D
kilte90 a lyricist without a clue, what year is this?
+kilte90 Southpark debuted in August '97, and in this interview Trey mentions they are 4.5 years into it, so that would imply this interview is around early 2002.
+Harrison Lehn living a muck, never giving a fuck, give me the keys I'm drunk. and I've never driven a truck
The ceo deserves a lot of credit for not only taking a chance on them but basically risking his whole career n legacy on pushing this show and supporting Trey n Matt as much as he could and trusting in their creativity because u can tell he is a fan…its possible they dont get along but they defff created magic together with good support🙌🏽
That was f-ing awesome.
Oh man then they did season 8 what a legendary season that was
Don't lie, y'all thought "Star Chamber" was a sci-fi reference until you googled it, too
Oh my god, thank you -- I just googled it and it went from an obscure reference to a clever metaphor
I've never seen a televised discussion about South Park where *everyone* present was so intelligent and level-headed.
"Great conversation", indeed. 👍
I wonder if there will be a time when this is censored by youtube. Felt like the interview ended right when the conversation got really interesting!
