Mount Your Fridge In The Back Seat Of Your JEEP JKU!!! (My DIY 40% Delete Platform)

  • I needed a way to mount my new fridge in the back seat of the Jeep and couldn’t find anything worth looking into. I also didn't want to delete the back seats completely or delete just the larger seat. So I deleted just the smaller seat then engineered my own platform!

    I like your low key approach to modding your JK. I am slowing modding my 2009 Rubicon for medium duty off road and some light overlanding. Thanks for the great ideas and nice build vids!

    Great video! and of course I found this video after I did my rear seat delete in my JKUR. for my platform, I left the sides open to create additional storage for a recovery strap and jack that all sits underneath the platform

    Thanks for posting the video. I’m going to try to do something similar to my Ram 1500. We currently just fold the 40% side up but there is also a lot of wasted space that can be better utilized.

    Initially I was gong to mount the fridge in the back (like everyone else does) and keep a cooler in the back seat to keep road snacks for me, my wife, and son. This is WAY smarter and better for our set up. I was searching for someone who has done this (like you) and you were the only one that popped up. So now I am subscribed and my wife and I look forward to your videos!

    I'm a solo traveler so I could easily put the fridge int he back. I was looking at removing the 40% only or just keeping the seat down forever and the fridge on top of it. Thank you for this video. I subscribed even though this is the only video I've watched from your channel.

    Because I built a rear cargo hitch box I can't open the gate with ease. So my prior apicool went in the floor of the back seat (seats removed for flat cargo). But when I went with a bigger fridge it went behind the drive seat, sideways. It can pull right out the rear driver side door 💪🏿

    I have the Costway variant of that freezer. I will be doing this!!!!
    I think the only stipulation is that I have to be able to install and remove the mount in ten minutes.
    So, likely a tweak or two. Wow! Great job!

    • @danuuc99

      Can you get the wire basket in/out with the cooler strapped in?

    • @BaptismOverland
      @BaptismOverland  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danuuc99 Awesome! Would love to see what you come up with. Maybe together we can pitch it to Goose Gear haha. As far as basket? ABSOLUTELY! That's one thing I wanted to make sure of because I remove the basket and fill it up in the kitchen then transport the whole thing into the fridge. That's why I built the platform low enough so that the lid opens all the way.

    • @danuuc99

      Build in progress.
      Found out that your freezer is slightly smaller.
      ICECO JP50: 23 x 14.0 x 21
      Costway 55: 27 x 13.5 x 21 - That four inches longer is preventing my lid from cleanly opening.
      I had to rotate it front to back so it opens forward. Opens almost all the way and there is clearance to remove the wire basket, but stops at the speaker housing.
      Good thing is that the fans have good breathing room and my kid can open it from the back seat and get in it.
      Instead of the L brackets, I designed some that I'm 3D printing. First leg print needed design tweaks for fit. Printing the second iteration now.

    Another nice build. I have seen someone making a slide for their fridge and even a tilt slide. Ever thought about making a title slide for your fridge?
    From what I seen it looks easy and I may try that next week.

    • @BaptismOverland
      @BaptismOverland  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never considered it because there’s no way it’ll slide fr the side door anyway. The fridge is too wide

  • @brucesinclair9628

    I've been watching a few of your DIY's, great thought process!! I know this one is a little older, but did you consider having a drawer under that fridge? Or wouldn't it work out. It's winter up here and I haven't gone out to see if there would be room to have one extend... Just a thought as storage is a limited thing in our Jeeps... Thanks for putting these out, good job.

    • @BaptismOverland
      @BaptismOverland  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually not that old lol. It was done just in Dec and YES I wanted to put a drawer under there but it wouldn’t work for 2 reasons: it’s not really a lot of room and the drawer would get snagged somewhere because the floor isn’t necessarily even. It starts to rise. The only somewhat flat part would only give me a drawer of about 5” in length and maybe 4” deep lol. I also can’t raise the platform any higher or else the lid won’t clear the roof and will be even harder to get stuff out of it. But good thinking on that cuz it’s exactly what I wanted to do at first

    I would like to do something like that in the backseat area (seat removed) in my 2002 F350. Any suggestions how to power it. I was thinking possibly 100 amp hour lithium battery DC to DC charger what are you thoughts on that

    • @BaptismOverland
      @BaptismOverland  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey man I just saw this. My bad! Ummmm, I'm in the same boat lol Right now I just have a single battery which charges it when I'm driving. Then I tested it at camp to see how far I could push it before it kills the battery and so far I was able to get 14 hrs (which by then we are driving off already). The fridge doesn't take up that much specially when it's cold out...it doesn't cut on as often. But I also know one day we will be camping and not moving. The two options:
      Option 1: dual battery set up like you want to do. Upside is you don't have to think about it. Aux battery will charge everything and shut off when it gets too low. Downside is you're basically building a dual just for a fridge unless there are other stuff you're trying to power as well
      Option 2: Portable battery like Jackery or Goal Zero. Upside is it's portable and you can plug up a bunch of other stuff to it as well. Downside is every time you get to camp you have to unplug the fridge fr your vehicle battery and plug into the portable and then switch it back when you leave. The other option is plug up the portable battery to main battery so it'll charge it and then plug fridge to that portable.
      All this to say, I don't know man 😂 I personally haven't made up my mind yet which is the most advantageous.

      I don't even remember now. It's all covered with wood. If I'm not mistaken it was like a 6.5x3.25" one. You'll just have to measure and get an approximation
