This is a great interview. This is the second person that took the course that have a bachelor degree and have the certification in comptia security plus and then take joshes course to eventually end up with a very good job. The one prior to this was a guy from Texas so people the common denominator is this to get a very good position and cyber security. You need your degree and at least one certification everything after that is an added bonus. Great work, Josh I look forward to taking a course.

You have to be able to market yourself and get hands on exp . Nothing wrong with a degree but it’s not needed to get to a big bag . I follow and talk to so many black people in tech that making 100k and up with no degree and it’s not just the government sector . I’m in too many networks to even believe it and work with people as myself with “no degree”. Managers want you to be able to learn and show that you can do the work . My position even listed it needed a degree . I have no degree lol . I know how to market myself and research ! Transferable skills , Certs, and hands on exp in todays world can take you far .

Great interview. Apply to a job even if it seems over qualified. Apply all day. Market yourself. Change your title. Do research and stay relevant to trends. Be adaptable and change your resume to the job and times. Do what it takes to break in and apply for everything.

He brings up alot of great points, a company that is willing to invest in a candidate will get a loyal and hard working member of the team for many years to come. I have found myself in a similar situation, my current company noticed my hard work and leadership, and are now offering me a chance to break into a cyber role while willing to train and certify me along the way. This shows that even though we might not find a dream job the first time, as long as you land in a good company with a great team, opportunities will always present themselves if you work hard enough. I was able to pull it off. I was actually going for the sec+ when I landed the job. Im a vet so took advantage of free splunk and elastic certs. Anything the VA gave out I took advantage of. They paid for a GSEC once I landed the job. Been in it since 2018.

Hello Josh. Would you say that your IT course and your cybersecurity course would prepare one for a career in GRC? I know some GRC roles require a little technical skills or some basic knowledge of Active Directory, cloud, monitoring, incident response, etc.
I finished the course as well and have been applying to jobs but I don't like hearing tailor my resume for each job because that's exhausting for real. It's either you like my skillset or you don't. I have a sociology degree and I'm pursuing a master's of engineering in cyber security policy and Compliance, if that doesn't show my commitment to the field then idk what will. I wrote individual cover letters for each job and still nothing. I work in data security and use that as experience. I'm really getting discouraged.
I tailor my cover letters, I always add a cover letter and just add keywods fromt he job description to my skills or something because I had like 50 resumes on my downloads @@DG-no1oo

No experience , CISSP sponsored and after a year he can leave and go anywhere making more. Look at the optics. It's a good deal getting management experience without having 10 years experience. Experience is what makes the pay grade more.

Sorry but if you haven't gone through the trenches you arent gonna be respected. Its hard enough to get your foot in the door as an analysis with a degree and certs. No company will hire a guy with no experience in a mangement position
I've always been an individual contributor in my day job, but here I am, suddenly managing my own team, making 5x what I made in my conventional work. Any human can literally do almost anything, given there is interest and opportunity. He had a lot of interest and was able to create luck and find an opportunity, so now he is an ISO. Also, generally speaking, everyone sucks at managing until they start managing and make an effort to get better. I didn't even consider that someone would think this video was fake to be honest, so thank you I guess lol
Idk if you missed it, but I went over how I will be shadowing for up to a whole year. I get having doubts, but I assure you I indeed got this job and again, I got lucky.
