I just got through flogging the BALLS off that white one, it tested out much like 3cr13 on my tests. The orange one however had INSANE performance. For $5 I'm cool with the white one. Great little novelty.
I purchased both. I got the orange one about 4 months ago and just picked it up because I was in the store and it looked interesting. I hadn’t heard about it before I saw it, I just grabbed it for a beater. I have to say for $10 I’ve been very impressed. It’s got to be real D2 for how well it’s been holding an edge. Very pleasantly surprised. A few weeks back I picked up the white one. Very poor quality and zero edge retention. I’ve sharpened it twice so far and it’s due for a touch up again. Save your money and get the orange one if you can find it. If I come across another orange one I’ll be sure to grab it.
same here got the wugout few months back. got the green tanto for 8 bucks as a back up. just got the stormtrooper yesterday just gonna snag a black tanto a blue flipper and the 2nd gen orange wugout with the reversible pocket clip woot woot. Walmart for the win Idc what the haters say
I bought 2 orange and 2 white. I know the orange in d2 is "better", but I ended up keeping a white one and giving away the rest. I have high end knives, but there's something about this white ozark trail knife that I really enjoy. Can't stop carrying it.
The ONLY thing that stopped me from getting the "bug out killer" is the orange handle. I don't want an EDC pocket knife with bright orange blaze scales, and don't want to take the time to dye them right now. Lol
For me as someone who uses, abuses, breaks and/or loses his knives......that orange one is perfect for me. If I could, I would buy 10 just as a supply for the next 10 years. I have purchased the latest wiz bang steel for crazy money......and it still get dull and breaks and gets lost just the same as a budget knife. D2 for the past like 13 years has been my go to since it's easy to sharpen and holds a edge decent. But for me as much as I use my knives, I rather have it be easy and quick to sharpen " 2 minutes" every few days of hard use.....then a super steel that takes 20 minutes every 3 days
The $10 one is what you hand to family, friends, co-workers when they ask to use your knife because they are too lazy to carry their own. If they break it, they are more likely to replace your $10 knife than your $200 knife.
Cool tool bro. I spent $50 on a flip knife with d2 about two years ago. I would definitely buy an Ozark trail withe d2 steel! Great knife, great price. I only wish it was made in the USA 🇺🇸. But for $10, who s complaining?
$50 for D2 is nothing, remember it used to be one of the "super steels" and went for a lot more. Super steels get replaced regularly, ATS34 used to be the super steel of it's day.
Actually OT made an axis lock knife before these two. They are green with nice action. Unfortunately I fidgeted it until the omega spring broke. If you are a compulsive figit guy like me don't buy any spring knives. I even wore out Kershaw assist. The new OT D2 model holds an edge 3x longer than their cheaper 3cr steel. I recommend everyone knocking off the factory belt edge and give it superior stone edge. Your milage may vary. Cheers.
Question for all of you knife guys and gals.....I'm new to yhe knife world. I'm thinking about buying a few of these to start practicing sharpening. Which one of these steels would be better to start off with? I'd rather practice on beater knifes. Thanks...
D2 is it closer to the super steels you will get now on the better brand names. There still is Buck and some Gerbers using 440 level steels. Anything soft will be easy to sharpen but won't hold as edge long. With harder steels you may have to go to diamond stones and not water strones.
I had 2 of the D2 one on order from Walmart. Walmart canceled my order 2 times and then they were out of stock. Good thing I have other knives I can use.
The full-length liners and D2 steel are DEFINITELY worth the additional $5 for the orange one, but $5 is great for a knife like that! I think of the $5 knives they are doing this year, the black tanto is the best, the black $5 fixed blade with the finger grooves is a STEAL!
Sweet video !!! Perfect for a car knife! Here in the desert, it gets over 110⁰ F, and I wouldn't mind losing it! Also, you should do a select pick from Amazon since most people on this platform can acces it
lol I’m sitting at my door waiting for Walmart delivery to arrive with the gray white one now it’s Sunday @12:04 but thank you 🙏 for another great video GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY SAY HI TI CHRISTINE
CRKT you pay for the name of the designer, but get relatively low grade steel. They used to be AUS10 and AUS8, then a few years later is was all AUS6 and lower!
The stormtrooper knife is the better of the two in my not so humble opinion stay away from the orange one it looks like they're heat treatment was some par and it's losing the Apex from poor geometry and door crap heat treatment stormtrooper one seems solid
Are you still a pipe smoker by chance? As a pipe guy myself, those videos would be welcome more commonly to me. Ben looking into edc pouches that can go on the belt and hold my pipe, tobacco, all the pipe stuff.
I can't play with these knives, not on their Canadian site. Both are Canada legal, except our border services makes their own rules. They will take knives shipped to individuals but still let companies bring in the same knives. They also let Home Depot stock illegal flick knives. Even the package shows the knife being flicked open after the blade release button is pressed.

I bought a handful of the white/gray ones and I a currently practicing my dying skill on these as the white/gray scales make it excellent canvas !!
How many lol

$5 knife is an absolute steal! Just a little sharpening and makes an excellent beater knife.
I have mine in my cars center colsole, just used it to cut the tip off a spray foam can.

the weight Is perfect in pocket forget u have it
The ONLY thing that stopped me from getting the "bug out killer" is the orange handle.

I brought Ontario RAT I in black, OD, and orange. lol
I have both lol. For $5… I should’ve gotten more.
For me its a fun fidget toy prize, that actually functions.
A cool carnival prize.
It’s crazy how these two knives have changed the game. All the Facebook knife groups are on fire with them.
Because every TH-camr can fork out $15 for two knives easier than they can $500 for a nice custom.
Makes me think of Ganzo knives. That was a good cheap knife brand that came out when the axis lock patent became open. Those were great for the money.

Another amazing insight from the cutlery master himself! Great review Jeff!
I have both and I like the look of the $5 one better.

The handle is definitely a light gray. I have 3 white Migurons and next to them it's very obvious. The orange one is out of stock again online.
I had 2 of the D2 one on order from Walmart. Walmart canceled my order 2 times and then they were out of stock. Good thing I have other knives I can use.
Like you said they vary. My white one came super sharp.
Thanks for the video
I picked up the one with the machete looking blade. For $5 can't go wrong
You said shaft lock.

isn't the black tanto tip down carry only though?
@@1spiralout not sure
What do you think about that new d53 steel supposed to be better than D2
Jack with a knife makes a Jack Knife 🔪😎👍👍

You can wave the orange one out of your pocket cause the studs stick out so dar
no where to be found in my state
With Benchmade, Spyderco, and to an extant CRKT and Kershaw, you pay for the name.
CRKT you pay for the name of the designer, but get relatively low grade steel. They used to be AUS10 and AUS8, then a few years later is was all AUS6 and lower!
Does anyone have a link?
Bought the white one and black tanto. Both were dull AF haha
We have ZERO info on that blade steel. the orange one we know is D2. Glad I was able to get a dozen of them.
I'm glad they're both cheap !
The stormtrooper knife is the better of the two in my not so humble opinion stay away from the orange one it looks like they're heat treatment was some par and it's losing the Apex from poor geometry and door crap heat treatment stormtrooper one seems solid

*looks at the Microtech MSI I just bought*
This is garbage compared to the ozark grail
Bought them both and they both live up to the ozark trail name. Garbage
