This channel gets me.... I had a friend... 30 years ago who looks EXACTLY like you. You can't be him, though... you'd be about 30 years older than you are. He was 6'6" and I don't think you are quite that tall.... but every time I see you on here I think - what's Marshall up to... and have to remind myself that you aren't him... lol. This is a GREAT idea... but you share lots of those on this channel. Thanks for sharing this with us.
This entire family is a gift from God. The absolute best channel the rest of us can watch and be smarter when it is over. Unlike most of the consumable programming out there. Thank you for all that you do, Gridlessness!
Julia and all of your children are so smart and talented. Mom dad you did well you taught them life skills. I think you are all amazing people, and I have learned so much from you. Love your content and you guys you rock.❤
The girls are awesome! They had great teachers, and retain all they are taught. I was thinking the same thing about being a skinning knife. The leather work Julia does is fabulous. Ppl have to be reminded about entering areas prohibiting such items though, they're small enough to forget about. Love ya'll ❤️
Julia as well as all your daughters are the best of all worlds: they are sweet natural beauties, extremely skilled and knowledgeable. It seems nothing can get in their way. Any young man seeking to come courting better be up to being the lesser half in the couple. You and rose have done an amazing job bringing up your children. They will better off in life than most. 🏆
Greetings from the land of Blaze King, thanks for the update video. As a semi-old guy who as a hobby and out of necessity made leather pouches, holsters, sheaths and whatnot for more than half a century, it's great to see the next shift of leather workers still at it. Also in the "for whatever it's worth" category, as a Canuck I don't carry anything as a "weapon" since we all know how that works out with nervous constabulary. Now there's always a variety of tools carried and yah, I can articulate exactly what purpose each one serves. That ultra safe box and cord cutter design does not have blades which break on us like a regular box cutter so is much safer for the user for instance. We all need to open boxes and cut cord, baler twine, etc. regularly and since we use our hands for a living, it's incumbent on us we use the safest method available with which we will not injure said hands.... Stay well and good luck on any remaining hunts.
We don't like to carry weapons either, but like you, we need necessary tools for cutting boxes and bailer twine, or chug off trees, around the farm etc. 😊
So much respect for you all. What a Life that has happened , out where there is peace and solitude. Creativity... is a gift from The Lord. 🙏🙏Prayers and blessings.
one suggestion. Put a small snapping closure strap on the small wallet. That way you can fold your bills in the middle portion, and they will be secure. Nice design. Cool idea. Good job Julia.
Those are very awesome wallets Julia. When I look at these kind of start up businesses I think what will I do if all of a sudden I get a thousand sold. How will I supply those orders. A business needs to be able to supply the demand and being able to make large quantities as quickly as you can is the hard part. So making a stamp jig to cut out the parts using dads press to do the cutting is a good way. To take it from basicly a hobby to a business is a matter of ingenuity and usually perservence. You've got the quality, now you have think about the quantity. Good luck in your endeavors, hope you sell piles of them.
@denisewilson8367 yes but if you went a website and they are always sold out of what you are trying to buy wouldn't you eventually just quit trying and go somewhere else? If you advertise a product there's a reasonable expectation that you'd be able to supply the demand.
It was the sense of something illegal what drew me to your video lol and I always say that you learn something new every day. You can thank the wife and her talents that I subscribed. Cheers
What a clever combination - a sharp emergency knife (for oranges , of course !) and beautiful leather work ! Wishing you all good health and great , satisfying success !
You could find a way to put a magnet in the side opposite of the knife. It would hold the wallet closed, and keep the knife from sliding out. :) not that it is at risk of sliding out. just throwing an idea out there.
I've been talking about starting my leather work again. Everything I had (not a ton of stuff, but enough) was stolen when my place was robbed. They took about $60,000 worth of personal property. Things I've had most of my 64 years of life and destroyed with my own mauls and ax what they didn't steal. Beautiful work Julia. I like the #2 wallet. And the 2 pocket would be great for those days you need to dress up and need less so your back pocket doesn't bulge with a thick wallet. You girls are great examples of what children should learn from thier parents. Life skills.
Those wallets are sharp and the knife is cool. I want one. Great job Julia and all you ladies are awesome. Wholly cow Kezia is getting tall. I love your channel. I like the 2nd version..., dad, lol
Best wishes and sales on the best leather crafting business! (been a while since you posted a video with Julia demonstrating preparing animal hide for leather work)
Please stop telling people they can carry that knife into an airport because you're just going to get them arrested. No you cannot take that knife into an airport.
Julia, get yourself a sailors palm. It's awesome for hand sewing thick material. It will allow you to push big needles through thick material with the palm of your hand without hurting yourself.
Nice work Julia. If you wanted to hold the knife in the compartment more securely, add another little round of leather that locates inside the finger hole. That would stop it falling out so easy. Might be tough to stitch in there, but you could glue it...
Nice job. You could had saved yourself time and material by placing a small thin magnet sewed inside the wallet to secure the knife in place. Keep up the good work.
I am always impressed with how the girls are getting on, but I am also interested in the activities and work to sustain and grow this life with your family. I want to see/know how you all operate in the nearby community, working off the homestead. etc. when you need to. My curiosity gets the better of me sometimes. I enjoy all that the family does for the channel, Cheers!
Hi, I really like your leather Ideas. I'm a leather crafter and like your work. I have a couple pointers for you first is more of a question. Do you know how to do a saddle stitch? It's a really nice stitch but it's also really strong. The other is when you make a bifold your outside main panel should be a half inch bigger than the inside panel to prevent pinching on the fold when you put mo ey in it. Keep up the great work. I follwypur family and really like your content. So nice to see young people and parents working together carving out a life. BTW I'm located in Newfoundland my company is DCM Blades and craft
Spring load the pocket so the knife stays in? You could use just about any kind of spring. Like from a broken tape measure. Pin the ends into the seam and put the bow of the springs toward the pocket. That'll hold the side panels against the knife. And they're super thin. Do you have a leather splitter? Skiv each panel in half, put the spring in then glue press them together (a book binding press is great but any flat surface press will work. Even some plate steel and concrete blocks for weight). The panel will warp and you put the warp toward the blade.
I love watching leather craft. I watch prince armory for some good displays of what’s possible. This was a great demonstration and I imagine you’ll sell out no matter how many you make.👍🙏🏻
I would line the inside of the wallet with a smooth piece of cloth or thin leather . Just like my belts I wear . I only wear double smooth sided leather belts . Know what I sayin ? Sure ya do .. other than that nice . You can also get the leather wet and shave the rough side of the leather down in certain areas like in the fold or the stitch .. That makes them less thick .
"That thing should be like airport proof" Also "That's like a talon...you'd be lethal with this" Lovely leather work, so much time and thought going in to the process.
The talking by Mom and the sped up stuff with music was not too good but....when she was concentrating and no one was talking and it was just the sounds of the wallet being made it was sooo ASMR. Tingly for sure.
FYI ... You can't carry a blade on any US or Overseas flights. (Box cutters took out the Pilots and Other People in the planes on 911)! The final decision is with TSA when flying in the USA. However, you can put certain knives in checked luggage ... but read up on the restrictions and how to wrap and secure them.😊
I can't imagine CBSA letting that tiny knife go on an airplane ? ( given all the heavy duty restrictions since 9-11 ) but I haven't been on a plane since well before that even . Appreciate the creativity of the wallet , Bon Courage 👍🙏
Great idea. However, I'm not sure what airline lets you fly with any knife unless, of course, you check it in . The last time I flew TSA made a stink over my flashlight because it looked like a cannister of mace on the x-ray . I wouldn't go forgetting you have a knife in your wallet, at least here in the States, could be a hefty fine.
Rose: "So the more money you have the more secure your knife is." Dean O: "The more money you have in your wallet the more you may need your knife to protect it." Take care. sincerely, Dean O. :-I
I have an old fix blade knife that I purchased in an antique shop many years ago. Sadly the leather sheath is so old it's disintegrating. I would love to be able to mail this leather sheath to a P.O. Box, or some place that the Birkenshaw family has access to, so Julia could use that knife sheath as a template. What a treat... actually... I would be honored, if Julia would use this sheath/template to make me a new leather sheath complete with the Gridlessness logo on the back. Perhaps I could even get Julia to burn her name into the new sheath next to the logo to give the piece that extra added special flair. Even make it a one of a kind leather sheath. I would really love to purchase a Julia Birkenshaw custom leather work of art so I can finally have a new sheath for my old fixed blade knife. I can only hope that Julia will think about my offer and in turn decide to take this job. I am willing to discuss payment at her earliest convenience. Take care. sincerely, Dean O. :-I
You could trap a thin neodynium magnet in the pouch holding the knife and it would never "fall" out.
Thats actually a pretty neat idea.
Those girls are most assuredly talented and unafraid of making the effort. That's the recipe for success in life!
One word comes to mind, of this Family , and especially the daughters . . . . CLASSY

Say hi to Marshall for me!
@@Gridlessness take a hint Marshall is no longer with us.
Love the trial and error methodology...all craftsman do this. Final products are rarely made on the first attempt. Great job!

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the prospective husbands were not only deserving of these young ladies , but also equal partners ! What epic unions !!!
Well done young lady. Very creative and useful.

Great work. So good to see (young) people get access to conditions where they can invent and produce (their interest even).

You sell what you've already crafted. It's not manufacturing, it's craftsmanship. It's a quality you can't get from manufacturing.

Good Job Julia
👸👏👏👏👏🏆🥇😍👌❤️
Hard plexiglass knife for protection will get through airport scanners. Julia you an inspiration.
What a clever combination - a sharp emergency knife (for oranges , of course !) and beautiful leather work !

I like the 2.0 and the two card types...very nice!

I'm 75. I carry concealed. A hammerless .38 and an ice pic.
Anyway, a leather scabbard neclace would be cool.
Beautiful Kids and Best Parent ❤

I want one! Love the rustic rugged styling!
Dads away girl at play. Fabulous craftsmanship
Super awesome. Order placed!
Pretty sure you’re gonna love it Peter!
Best wishes and sales on the best leather crafting business!
(been a while since you posted a video with Julia demonstrating preparing animal hide for leather work)
Super good idea, but a decorative seam on the knife opening and on the banknote compartment would make this work even nicer. Good job.
Then order one and modify it any way you like. Or maybe start your own business and let other people tell you how to run your business.
Julia's work starts to really complicate, she is advanced designer now👍🤟 please light up the stove for Julia😊
Beautifully done, Julia! Great to visit you all on the channel. Blessings 🤗🇨🇦
That’s a beautiful wallet very nice 👍
That knife would make an excellent witling knife!
I want the 5 card (2nd) one! You can put them both on the store. It isn't mass production.
Nice work Julia. If you wanted to hold the knife in the compartment more securely, add another little round of leather that locates inside the finger hole. That would stop it falling out so easy. Might be tough to stitch in there, but you could glue it...
Let's release more videos. That's what I've been waiting for. Vietnam❤❤❤
Beautiful work, in a more beautiful space. Well done thank you for sharing
😱 Very cool idea Julia , what really sucks though is the limited shipping area 😢😢😢
I’d definitely buy one otherwise.
That's super cool Julia. Very professional.

Polish outer edge, after that It looks awesome
Ah,J'adore elle travaille bien !,c'est magnifique de voir travailer le cuir 🥰🥰🥰🤩👍👍👍C'est dommage que vous êtes au Canada et pas en France
Bloody brilliant from Scotland 🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴
Just found this channel, which is incredibly helpful considering I just moved to Vanderhoof & plan on doing something similar❤
Use an arbor to punch needle holes?
Brilliant!
Nice work Julia. Very creative and interesting work.
Great plan. Self employed in your way.
What boy makes the knife?
Great plan.
Go check out Brandt Blacksmithing on TH-cam! He’s awesome
The best thing about a wallet knife is in case you get robbed. "Sure Mr. Mugger, let me get out my wallet!"😅
Bonne sainte thanksgiving avec les canards

Thanks for another great video
Thank you
Well done.
Layer a magnet in layer adjacent to the knife.
May The Lord continue to bless you and your family.
Very well done Julia 🎉.
Your talent is amazing 🌞!
Happy Thanksgiving 🦃💗.
JO JO IN VT 💞
You two are successfully raising children with actual skills! Hahaha. Love the channel
Какая она у вас молодец. И вы тоже. Вы мне все очень нравитесь. Жалко что вы живёте так далеко, я бы с вами дружил. 😊

An idea for holding the knife in some of the wallets, incorporate a small magnet inside the wallet to help hold the knife in place.
I love watching you guys. The girls are so talented

Lovely leather work, so much time and thought going in to the process.
😱 Very cool idea Julia I’m very impressed , what really sucks though is the limited shipping area 😢😢😢
I’d definitely buy one otherwise.
We ship worldwide! If you aren’t seeing your area, please send us a private message on our website. We’ll sort it out!
She's got it down to a science, great job!
The hole in the knife can also be a cap beer opener! 🙌🏻
Awesome leather work. But in the US, the TSA absolutely will not let you board a plane with any sharp edge
Your daughters are amazing great work love the hunting
Very nice! 😎👍🏽
awesome content
The talking by Mom and the sped up stuff with music was not too good but....when she was concentrating and no one was talking and it was just the sounds of the wallet being made it was sooo ASMR. Tingly for sure.
Cool leather creations! Congratulations
While I would choose the knife, maybe offer a bottle opener option and/or make the finger hole a bottle opener to add some additional multi function
Julia you have skills girl your great. Love the knife as well .❤

TSA allows certain knives
The money secures the knife and the knife secures the money, interesting.

plane since well before that even . Appreciate the creativity of the wallet , Bon Courage 👍🙏
The bank cards now have to be in a wallet that has theft protection. The new cards can be read in your pocket. Nice work on those wallets.
The smaller wallet with a tanto style blade and a money clip would be nice.
Very talented. Well done!
Very nice. Great work.
nice little wallet , id have tho u was going do a saddle stitch for a sec , nice skinning blade 😎
can i come with a suggestion put a metalclip around the hole like a monet clip that secure the knife thin spring metall that hold in place
Good afternoon from Syracuse NY United States of America my friends

Hey Dean, could you send an email through our website and we can see if we can make something work!
Tell Julia if she stitches a small piece of leather into the wallet where the hole is on the knife it will give some retention.
God Bless from your Canadian Friend.
