I purchased my first Seiko (Samurai) in 2008. Took a long hiatus from watches until 2013 (Hamilton Khaki King). Then another hiatus until 2017 (purchased various modded Seiko Divers). Went on a crazy Seiko run until the lead up to a Tudor in 2019. The finally a Submariner in 2022. Haven’t bought a watch in 2 years. It just gets worse each time! LOL

hi! this is a good question. lets break this down. -Yes. As a tourist, we are exempted of 10%. But with a minimum purchase of 5000 yen. If you will buy worth 5000, they will remove 10% as tax free. Just make sure to double check each price tag. There are times that they will highlight the discounted price right away. -In terms of pricing this is my personal take based on our experience. There might be a slight difference with others. Last year, while the yen was not doing good. It was always a steal deal from left to right. This July 2024, we went back to Tokyo. Some items are not on the same pricing. not all. just to be clear. Maybe, some stores made adjustments with the price to compensate the value of yen. I even saw a content about the price of watches in Nakano Broadway in regards to the price hike. On top of that, if you'll check today. Yen had some bump to its current value. With that, I guess your friend is correct. Maybe some of contents are from last year and they are also correct that Japan is the cheapest place to buy Apple products (during that time). -Additional factor, there are so many secondhand store all over Japan. Sometimes we tend to put that in the spotlight in our content to show that we can purchase an item on that range. I even bought a secondhand automatic Seiko watch and it was way cheaper from a brandnew and it was super mint. Luck I guess 👌🏼
