The fact that DD1 Soundtrack plays during the final boss is unbelievably incredible. When I was fighting the boss, I was just listening remembering the DD1 memories.
Yes and No Yes) Thematically humanity made horrible mistakes, including the ancestor who doomed this world by opening a portal to the darkest dungeon. That it's us that can fail and all No) It's abit more than that. Humanity exist as individual and as collective, individually, we have issues, collectively, humanity is like an organism that need to evolve
I know the lore hints that the protagonist stopped the corruption in the first game, but the lore of the second game makes so much more sense if we failed instead. If you think about it, the whole 'confess your sins and regrets' and the world falling to chaos as a result of the protagonists failures is a great concept. Not to mention the addition of how we hold the only source of hope left in the world; the hope to put things right
Actually for the first game its more of "we stop it for now but it will keep growing and there will be always new heirs redoing our stuff" which is basicly an endless cycle
To say that we failed is a bit subjective. I mean that while we may have succeeded in keeping it at bay, whose to say that our lineage will also win. It was inevitable that the world would fall to chaos, and all it would take is simply if someone down the line, was a coward, or didn't get the same treatment, didn't recognise the severity and need, being unlucky, or it simply being just too late. All it needs is time.
The protagonist of the second game caused the ruin separately by performing that ritual where he sacrificed his mentor and 4 others, which shatterred reality and his conciousness.
I think the body of work is the most incredible boss design I've ever seen in a video game. The art design is just... insane but fits perfectly with the thematic of the game.
