I had amnesia y'all. This was NOT my first reaction to Billy Joel 😅Check out my UPTOWN GIRL reaction from over 2 years ago th-cam.com/video/g1b19YwcJwE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=LX82vNHALp8Mm7CC
This is such a great story telling song. This was Billy's first single released in 1973. "Piano Man" is based on Billy Joel's real-life experiences as a lounge musician in Los Angeles. The song is sung from Joel's point of view as a piano player at a bar, reminiscing about his experiences there & the people he encountered.
Billy Joel has a catalog of bangers
Truly one of the greats.
Billy is one of the best Singer/Songwriters of all time.
Fire. Billy Joel IS the Piano Man. One of our most prolific and much-talented composer/singers. Loved him for over 40 years…entire catalog of amazing music. Strong, sweet and soulful.
The most iconic line every songwriter wished they would have written: "And they're sharing a drink they call loneliness, but it's better than drinkin' alone...."
Billy really started out playing in a piano bar
Now you've done it. Billy Joel is another legend for sure.
This is probably the number one song on the list of "Songs that drunk (usually white) people sing loudly". That list includes Sweet Caroline, too.
Hey, hey, hey..... I (a white old lady... 62) sing both of those songs LOUDLY, while completely sober!
@@reneeeiier4818 LOUD is a must!
😂😂😂
Add Don’t Stop Believin’ 😂
AND BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY 😂 And I am not white…drunk, but not white 😂
Billy wrote this song from life experience. He wrote more then 90% of the songs that he performed.
Billy is a LEGEND! ❤
Great song to start with for Billy Joel, please listen to more, you won't be disappointed and it doesn't really matter what you pick, they're all so different and great in their own way. The man is the real deal. ✌❤
If you get a chance to see Billy in concert GO! He is amazing live.
Billy Joel has a huge variety of sounds...well worth checking out.
Listen to 'Downeaster Alexa', which my (very talented, piano playing) friend calls "the most beautiful song ever written about the death of the fishing industry." Billy is just a genius songwriter.
His versatility in songs and styles are amazing!
OMG! Thank you for reacting to Billy Joel. I grew up listening to him & have been to countless concerts of his. He is a phenomenally talented artist & really doesn’t have a bad song. There is nothing better than standing in a crowd at one of his concerts & he allows the audience to sing the chorus of Piano Man. It’s hard to pick a favorite but my others would be: Movin’ Out; Scenes from an Italian Restaurant; & we didn’t start the fire. His classical music is also a great listen. 😎
*Next up: His biggest hit, "Just The Way You Are," which won the Grammys for Record of the Year AND Song of the Year in 1979. Then go sing it to ya wife!*
This was my wedding song…in 2011. Timeless!!
Next up: Just The Way You Are, Only The Good Die Young, Matter of Trust, We Didn’t Start The Fire, Honesty, She’s Got A Way. The list goes on!!
His first big hit
This is the content that made me love you channel back in the Tennessee Whisky days and the early Pentatonix days. Please give us more 70’s, 80’s, 90’s singer/songwriter reactions. I don’t even care what genre pop, folk, rock, metal, R&B anything
Vienna Waits for You
There's a video out here on TH-cam somewhere of him performing this song live. And he's playing the harmonica AND the piano parts. The harmonica is in like a harness thing around his neck so it's right in front of his face & he leans in to play it WHILE he's on the piano & singing in between. It's wild how talented he is.
Check out New York State of Mind live at the Old Grey Whistle!! A great performance!
What makes this song GREAT is it's REAL.
This song brings back soooo many great memories from the 70s. Thanks for making me smile and remember
Billy Joel is one of my all-time favorite artists, timeless music, one of his songs that shows off his vocal skills is Just The Way You Are
Billy Joel is a phenomenal story teller. This is one of my all time favorite songs.
If you notice the posters and hotel signs in the video, thats Billy playing under another name because he was having a dispute with his record company
This was his break-out hit that started his journey to stardom. The story is about the people he met working The Executive Club in LA.
My name's not Davy, but I stayed in the Navy for life. I don't regret it because it's the best thing I ever did.
This video takes a little of my imagination. Example: A sailor in uniform doesn't need to point it out.
"Yes, they're sharing a drink they call loneliness, but it's better than drinking alone."
More Billy reactions please! His catalog is crazy.
His catalog is deep deep
Very deep deep deep
This song is so awesome. Billy Joel is an awesome singer, not to mention an awesome Piano player. Love your reaction!
An often overlooked gem that you will *never* forget from his collection... Leningrad. Give a listen, sometime.
Billy Joel has a lengthy catalog of music: "We Didn't Start The Fire". " New York State Of Mind". ( video. The Whistle Test...extended version). "Scenes From An Italian Restaurant". " Uptown Girl" and so much more.
This guy has tons of great music. My faves NY state of Mind, Faith & Just they Way You Are. After 30 yr lapse he just releasesd Turn the Lights Back On. about his music absence and writing again. it's thought provoking and good music. Glad you found him, you will like this rabbit hole.
Another amazing performance from Billy Joel is "Angry Young Man". He shreds on the piano!!
Piano man is that song with the epic harmonica.
One of my favorite Billy Joel songs!❤❤
I truly love watching you hear this for the first time.
Great reaction. One of my favorite concerts was Billy Joel/ Elton John's Back To Back concert.❤Stay safe
I saw them together in 1994 and it was fire.
What a talent this guy is. I’ve still got his Piano Man album, which is fantastic…
Billy Joel always brings back so many memories. thanks for reacting and I would love to see you do more of his stuff. you wont be disappointed.
Billy has numerous hits. A person can’t lose when it comes to any of his songs! Please start with River of Dreams!!
The song is autobiographical about a time in Joel's career when he was in a contract dispute with his record label and rather than produce music for them under unfair terms, he worked at a piano lounge until his contract with the record label expired - hence the line "Man what are you doing here," because clearly he was too talented to just be playing bars.
It’s an iconic song, but I remember watching a special episode of “Inside The Actor’s Studio” with Billy Joel, who said that this song has no bridge or key change, so when he walks into a restaurant and a pianist launches into this melody and then realizes…he and Billy lock eyes and then Billy goes 🤷♂️
Great story telling. It's sad though that so many people go to places like this just to get away. From life. I know, I've done it. And when you wake up the next day hungover to go back to your job, ugh. It's hard.
But, somehow that momentary happiness was worth it.
This is Billy Joel's story, he grew up in NY (about 4 miles from me) then moved to California and his job was in a piano bar. Moved back to New York and blew up!!!!!
Do "THE STRANGER" or "BILLY THE KID"
One of my all time favorite artists. His music collection is unbelievable. He and Ray Charles did a duet called Baby Grand that I love and his oldest daughters middle name is Ray after Ray Charles bc he was a hero of Billy’s. The Longest Time, Goodnight Saigon, Matter of Trust, are some of my favorite songs but people will probably suggest We Didn’t Start The Fire next 😝
Amazing artist, an all time fave. I would reccomend "uptown girl" as well. It is a fun up beat song to enjoy
Fire to see a reaction that just soaks this up, everyone has a story :)
For a song called Piano man the guy on the Harmonica sure takes the lead.
Billy Joel is playing the harmonica.
@@katrinacash6393 I get that he is playing it, it’s just more prominent is the mix of a song called piano man. Just pointing out the irony.
Classic
Now you're heading down a rabbit hole. 🤠
Genius
Piano Bars were the rage of the 1960's and seventies. People would sing with the piano player and it was a lot of fun. This is a great example of this pleasure.
Not like everyone else. Not everyone can be like Billy Joel. He's a master piano man and storyteller. So glad you could appreciate him.
Billy is the piano man (Bruce Hornsby is up there too!) Why do they not write music like this anymore? Singers today need to step up with their music, lyrics, vocals and musicality too! This is my generation and we're getting kinda old so we need artists to step up and carry on these traditions. If someone can write songs like this, Gabriel Henrique can sing it for them.
We saw him play in Denver two nights ago and his voice has aged like a fine wine!
10/10 !
Try 'Bridge of troubled water'
he needs to be part of all future music history lessons
AB, Billy Joel sang with Tina on We Are the World!!
My father played piano bar for a living. Every single word of this song is true.
He doesn't show it but he plays the harmonica on this song as well
I’ve seen a few videos that do. Very talented man.
Billy Joel got some bangers, but you probably didn't recognize him on we are the world reaction you did awhile back.
Sharing a drink they call loneliness...but it's better than drinking alone..
This is the tip of the iceberg, see a life version of New York State of Mind to get a real feel of his talent.
I love your facial expressions during your reviews
Check out the live version of Scenes from a Italian Restaurant.
Scenes from an Italian Restaurant!
Im only 22 but billy is one of my all time favs u should react to captain Jack and big shot
I Love You Just the Way You Are
You should do the song research on this one!! Very INTERESTING!!!!! He was in a fight with his label and decided to go under a different name at The Holiday Inn bar and be the Piano Man!
Billy Joel said he didn't like the song. Wrote is as a filler song. he aid it is an Om Pa Pa, Om Pa Pa rhythm drinking song. But he said people ended up likeing it because of the story..
❤❤❤❤❤❤ Yes !!!!
I’ve always loved this song, although I never saw the video until much later, as I just wasn’t into watching music on TV. But the lyric and seen that don’t mesh for me is the one where he says the waitress is practicing politics, while the businessman slowly gets stoned. If she was practicing politics, she would let him pat her butt to get good tips, not throw a drink in his lap.
When you heard the first strains of the piano, you asked about Ray Charles. Well, he and Billy Joel did a duet together called My Baby Grand. It’s a love song to their pianos and it’s really melancholy in a minor key kind of way. I hope you get a chance to react to it someday. 😊
Billy Joel actually played the harmonica for this song.
My all time fave is The Stranger! It’s a I gotta, there too much truth to it.
Piano Man was the first Billy Joel tune I learned to play on the piano but The Stranger is still better! He went on to become one of the most successful artists in history, married Christie Brinkley, the model, they divorced and he’s grown larger than life since!
Amazing artist with more talent than most.
A Billy Joel song I think you should check out AB that will most definitely hit you right in the feels is "Goodnight Saigon"
You need to check out River of Dreams by Billy Joel
On a 1 to 10 scale this is an 11 !!!
If I never heard this song again
It will be too soon
the line is, the stranger alive
❤
Ummmm This is Billy Joel’s 2nd time on the channel. Its been a long minute, but You also reacted to “Uptown Girl”
Good call!
If you listen to a live version It’s even better ❤
AB, been watching your great videos for a long time, appreciate your take on the old stuff you’ve never heard before! (And LOVE that you became a Swiftie, after your first TS video). But I gotta ask you - can you please explain the meaning of your phrase “talk to me lightly” ? Been trying to figure that out forEVER. Is it a KC thing?!?
If you like Ray Charles listen to Baby Grand with Billy and Ray
He IS known as The Piano Man. ❤ Just as Rick Springsteen is known as The Boss! ❤
Springsteen is the Boss not Springfield
@@jeannettedow9709 Thanks... Lol. I know. I will make that correction.
Bruce Springsteen
❤❤❤❤😊
Another legendary Billy
Billy Holiday, Billie Joel, Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day) and this today. Ms Billie Eilish
🤘🔥🤘
The only thing wrong is that you cant be military forever because the oldest you can be is 64
Billy can sang sang.
The video to this amazing song is campy, dumb and outdated. But here's what I hate most about it: Just about every reactor gets to the scene of the businessman patting the waitress's ass and they miss the most poignant lyric in the whole song. "They're sharing a drink they call loneliness, but it's better than drinking alone" is an amazing line in what is really a very dark song. But the stupid video demands that younger people comment on it, and they rarely get the full impact of that line.
Can’t finish this..
The interruptions are brutal…
you really need to stop commenting on the video ..... 🤷♂

You dont sound the way you look.
Thank you.
Please listen to Billy Joel's "Leningrad."
