Looks like they did a great job on this system. Sidenote: I wish more cities in the U.S. would use our existing freeways for mass transit like this system has done.
The system does not use any freeway - it enters between the lanes of 610 loop on a flyover and then crosses over the southbound lanes of 610 to the transit center. The system basically goes on to a long flyover built between the north and southbound lanes
Damn, New Flyer is really having a field day with these Xcelsiors - they’re everywhere! We just got some XE40s and XE60s here in Austin, and those things are nice!
@Caleb C we have 6 Proterra 40’, 2 New Flyer 60’, and 4 New Flyer 40’. Personally I like the look of the New Flyers better but we’ll have to see which buses perform better.
I was on the rapid line also! but in different a different bus fleet number also took southbound and take north bound in fleet number 1402 which was behind the bus you were on
One day, you should do LA. I get we're the mortal enemies of Texas, but LA's bus/rail network is relatively similar to Houston's. I'd especially like to see how you rate the orange line and our (worse) silver line BRTs
It's not a rapid transit line proper (it goes local in San Pedro, DTLA), AND it costs extra, making it obnoxious for commuters like me from who take metrolink in, because we have pay like a $1.10 upchargex
@@david2.065 That's sad, considering how some MetroLink tickets are quite a upcharge it would be nice to allow free transfers. Llooking back at it, you do make a valid point, it makes less sense to pay more if a portion of it is operating local.
So based on this, part of the silver line in the future will be in the skyline. I was wondering what that was to the left of the freeway. Houston 1st passenger rail line(silver) to be on skyline in the future if they keep it like that. And theirs a over head Station on the other line.
Connor Morrison yes I know but that routes ridership is super low they were planning on making a metro van operate that route. Plus the 26 and 85 still also goes to Hempstead so i guess but in terms of ending the 71 is the only routes that ends there yes
Do you think they will keep the public parking free (that small ground level in front area and 2nd floor)? There isn't any information about parking even on Metro's site. Might it become like Fannin South where you pay a day rate? I can see riding that just to go to the Galleria and not have to deal with that garage!
Right now, parking is free of charge on Westpark/Lower Uptown on the second floor garage. Also...you can park at Northwest Transit Center for free as well.
I live on this line. i think for how it's a bit stupid because it does go that far. The bus is always empty. People that live alog the line doesnt take the bus We walk instead. It needs to be some sort of extention to Bush Airport To many hotels in the galleria When people come in town There NO easy / fast route to the Galleria area. Please expand this line ASAP
There are more coming.. Katy Line and University Line. Hopefully it gets more use once there are more connecting lines as they seem to be connecting transit centers. The University Line will cross the Red Line and the Purple Line (Metro Rails)! Now we just need the Purple Line to go to Hobby Airport, which would probably happen before MetroRapid or Rail goes to IAH. The 102 Express goes between IAH and the downtown transit center, but it's just a regular bus.
It was great and fast (like METRORail)! Although, the only complaint is that the bus pulls-in slowly to the station...but I think it will take some time for the bus operator to adjust.
It would be awesome. But according to METRONext Plans (that voter approved), there will be no light rail line in Uptown. In the next 20 years, METRO is extending Red Line to North Shepherd PR; extending the Green & Purple Lines to Hobby Airport and Houston Police Department Court House (near Eleanor Tinsley Park). Bus Rapid Transit (like that one you saw) will expand all over Houston.
@@HOUExplorer yeah I saw the planned extension for the metro. I am actually fine with the bus lanes, except they have not extended the silver line to downtown yet.
No light rail - there will be a new massive brt that connects westpark through the city into the 5th ward on the east side, but massive cost overruns have eaten the funding for the silver line to be rail
No. This is a temporary solution to a big problem. Houston need to stop building highways and expand the public transportation system. Build a rail system that connects downtown to large suburbs, more buses and bus routes that goes up to and pass the city limits.
They can’t just build outside of the city limits. They need an agreement between the burbs and city to expand service. Plus the Park & Rides allow people to ride in to town. Voters already approved Metros bond proposal. It includes expanding light rail to the courthouse and Hobby Airport. And they have already started plans for the Inner Katy BRT and University Line BRT.

@Caleb C LA Metro has Proterras? I think you mean Foothills Transit right?
Silver line is lit. Can’t wait for the Katy freeway line to connect it to the light rail system
Awesome!!! Looks like there’s still a small portion to be completely finished. Glad it’s open
I glad it finally opened up!

Defiantly I will.
HOUExplorer Man I just wish I saw ur “to do list”
*a bunch of to do stuff*
Worse? How so?
I think LAs Silver Line is impressive, its so fast and swift!

Outstanding... Thorough & informative!
Thank you.
+1 for being next to a MicroCenter!
This day has finally arrived!
Great video thanks for being the guinea pig!
Haha! You're welcome.
The Northwest Transit Center is lit
Yup. And it's huge...a METRO Ride Store and bays A through P.

Amazing bus ❗👌Remimd me on the German ,,City Express'' Lines or the Schnellbus Lines from the DB Regio ( German Railroad Doughter)
Great Video 👍
I forgot to mention that Routes 66 and 89 both are now extended to Northwest Transit Center
Wow so no more Hempstead transit center I guess

I’ve never seen 610 this empty. Lol
I see this when i whas going to My house
Awesome are you gonna do the Station announcements on the SB ride?
Yes. I'm still editing the southbound ride :)

Could you go through the medical center again and maybe walk around the hospitals
I still think they should convert it into light rail at some point. 🤷🏾♂️
i love it
Is Uptown still getting light rail?

So is the 33 finally discontinued or what?
Yes. Silver Line replaced 33 on Post Oak. And Route 20 replaced 33 South Rice Ave (to Bellaire TC).
HOUExplorer welp if no one noticed this how is the first time ever you can get to Bellaire directly from downtown
Nice
Thanks!
