    I was in CM a few weeks ago and I thought the city was in a bad way. A drive around the moat road and you see so many (50%+ shuttered businesses). Thae Pae road is a similar story. A walk through the night bazaar….well, it is hard to believe it was a night bazaar as there were so few stalls. There was a new area that had plenty of food stalls and that did look good and vibrant. The old inside night bazaar (the one with green shutters) had only 1 stall open at 9pm. The rest were nearly all for rent. CM definitely isn’t dead but lots of well known and established businesses have closed for good. It is hard to see how it is going to recover quickly.

    • @Iceyfire12
      @Iceyfire12 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Definitely won’t be quickly! Hopefully in due time more business do open up for the public!

      @@Iceyfire12 Right now if someone asked me whether they should visit CM I would probably advise against it. I really hope that changes as the CM I first visited in 1993 was a fantastic place.

We’re going to BKK next Friday! and can’t wait to go around and eat all the food on my list 😂. One thing though, be careful on the road in Thailand especially you are riding on the bike. I miss Chiang Mai! I was there for 6 weeks in February & March, and it was definitely still Covid times and not many tourists. Khao Soi Maesai was around the corner from my apartment, and I got takeaway from there many times, great. (But always chaotic-I often had to finally ask where my food was.😂) And Wat Chedi Luang was probably my favorite temple, along with Wat Sri Suphan (the Silver Temple). I can't believe they ticketed you and clamped the scooter tire! I'm pretty sure that's the first time that's every happened in CM, people park anywhere they want usually.🤭

      @@melissamay7778 That's not how I did it, but that's how you can save money. Find the neighborhood you want to live in and then walk to each apartment building and ask for prices and tours. Even if you're only staying for one month, they'll usually rent to you that way. The price for one or two months is higher than if you stay for 6-12 months, but still reasonable compared to western prices.

There is a famous Thai comedian, named อูดม แต้พานิช (Udom Taepanich), nicknamed โน้ส อุดม (Note Udom, with "Note" being the Thai pronunciation of "Nose"). He has a new special on Netflix. It is a stand-up comedy routine, in Thai, and it is very funny. If you want to watch, search for "Deaw 13, Thai stand up comedy".

    Hello friends
    Refer to questions about the words WAT and J-D.
    Your question is a good one. Even the younger Thai Buddhists use it wrongly.
    here is the answer
    Wat = wad = is a term for religious places of Buddhism in Thailand, Cambodia and Laos. It is the residence of the monks. and perform the religious activities of the Buddhists Inside the temple there is a viharn, chapel, sermon hall, crematorium, which is used for performing various religious ceremonies such as circling the candles. Buddhist Chanting, Meditation.
    Pagoda = J-D = refers to a Buddhist building built to contain ashes. or to enshrine Buddha images or as a souvenir This may be because in the later period, there would have been a place to contain the relics. and to worship and remember together

    Wat is a name in thai. That is all. It means temple complex or monastery. Eg shoalin temple in china. A stupa is similar to candi. Candi is used in buddhism and hinduism. They can be stone temples or places to store remains of important people eg priest or kings. As far as i know, stupas (smaller than candi) were used to store buddha's relics or remains as requested by him before he passed away 2500 years ago.

    - White bar alternates red - absolutely prohibits all kinds of parking.
    - White stripes alternate yellow - Do not park all kinds of cars between the specified boundaries. except for stopping the shuttle bus or deliver within a short period of time
    - Black and white stripes - Do not park because it is the point where the car is constantly moving. But if the parking is not long and you are in the area where the car is parked, it can be done and should be parked around the edge of the footpath as close as possible.
    For a circle sign where you show a parking ban. There are generally two types in Thailand. It is forbidden to park all the time.
    And another way is not to park on days ending in odd numbers, such as 1-3-5-7.
    Do not park with an even number ending 2-4-6-8.
    You can notice it from people. but don't trust people Because sometimes they are breaking traffic laws as well.
    The price you pay the police is the price that Thai people pay. It's the same. If it's a car, the fine will increase, which is 1000 baht.
    Suggestions for me to tell you Because I have been fined by the police many times for these things.
    - Any place that is not a public area, you can park easily. The method is to ask people in the area if they can park. Most people will nod. That means it's safe.
    - In the temple, if you are near the temple, this is the best place where you can park your car for a long time without worrying.
    About paying fines in Thailand I give an example of the year 2020.
    There is a written police order that Thai people do not pay up to 13 million.
    Almost everyone in this country has been like you. Don't be surprised, haha.

    The bike shop may not have needed a passport, BUT if you are supposed to show that you have a current motor cycle license/international drivers/riders permit otherwise they cannot be legally renting bikes to you. Bike shops renting out bikes without siting a current license/IDP are putting tourists at risk of being fined and if they have an accident having insurance companies deny claims due to no license or helmet. So if you intend renting a motor bike do not do so without a license. So many get caught out . Far too many rent motor bikes without a license and with little or no experience riding a motor bike and it ends up costing them big time.

    • @2Passports1Dream
      @2Passports1Dream  ปีที่แล้ว

      In this case it had nothing to do with our licence! It was because it was parked in the wrong area during the wrong time… but the sign wasn’t clear at all. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    This is the difference between a pagoda and a temple.
    Pagoda (Chedi) in Buddhism is a building that is worshiped by Buddhists. Inside often contain valuable spiritual things such as the Buddha's relics. , Bones of the King or important person, amulets, etc.
    The temple is the residence of monks in Buddhism. It is a religious ceremony. Therefore, beware of acts that disrespect the pagodas and temples. Because Buddhists will oppose that action.

    Some people want to turn Thailand into a vast Protestant church and in a Muslim mosque.and they have deserted everything with zero fun. There is no comparison with our beloved Bangkok. Unfortunately, Thailand was spoiled by Europeans who were complacent with what they saw and returned to their homelands impressed. I wouldn't change Bangkok for anything, I love it.
