As a brand new videographer (less then 1 year experience) and trying to learn everything I can about shooting quality videos, the best things I've learned about videography so far that have given me the best shots I've taken have been from watching you, out on the street shooting in the real world. Not sitting behind a desk talking about how to do it, but actually out there doing it. You have an excellent way of teaching for people like me who learn best from seeing it first hand and then trying it hands on. Excellent videos, I really appreciate the help!🤝
I am a Korean fan who took a picture with you in the video. It was such an honor to meet you. Please continue to make good videos! :)
Your work is awesome too!! Brandon should be your fan as well 🇰🇷🇰🇷🇰🇷
Thanks for watching!
I love that you wait for the composition to come to you and great tip on shooting in the shade. I'm heading to Bangkok and can't wait to shoot in China Town again there and then off to Chiang Mai.
Keep em coming bud! Love your channel and your vids!
Brandon, really enjoyed this video-your approach to following the light instead of chasing landmarks makes a lot of sense and is something I’ll definitely keep in mind. The tip about keeping the lens in the shade for better contrast was particularly useful, a small adjustment with a big impact.
Funny coincidence-I’m actually in Chiang Mai right now as well. It’s always interesting to see a familiar place through someone else’s lens, and your framing and pacing really highlight the energy of the city. Thanks for sharing these insights, always great to get a behind-the-scenes look at your process.
Thank you so much for this. Learning immense from this kind of videos, please keep up the good work
Good to hear from the actual videographers sharing his real work tips
awesome vid - love seeing the thought process. id love if you could give us an overview of your daypack for filming and how it fits in with your main traveling/gear bag. I always find it a tough dance to find a suitable camera backpack + camera daypack + bag for clothes
great stuff B! FOLLOW THE LIGHT!
Love it! More of these videos please!
The colors in your videos are always very classy.
“This is not a sponsored video” yeah!!! More likely we will get some real pearls of wisdom instead of gear specs. Thank you for this thoughtful video. 👍🏻
I've been making videos for some time and you opened my eyes to the fact that when the camera is in the shade, the contrast improves dramatically
Always great insight. 🙌🏼 Thanks for pumping these out. 🙏🏼
I always pick up useful tips from your videos. Just some amazing work you do.
Wow you're in Chiang Mai. I wanna see you filming 😍
It's always nice to see you in your natural habitat.
Playing in traffic is my comfort zone
Thanks for this episode, very inspiring and nice to watch! Greetings
Great! Now i really need to buy those lenses 😊 i have 35 right now and planning to get the 20 and 75
A lot of useful information for me here, great video. 😎👍 Chiang Mai is one of my favorite cities to visit, have a Khao Soi for me. 🤟
I am too conscious of Street Photo / Videography, with this Ronin Rig and Camera, you make it look so simple to move around.
These type of videos are awesome Brandon. Thanks for sharing your tips and your skills with us beginners. A very helpful video. Pollution isn’t the best in Thailand at the moment.
I checked before going out, it was moderate in CM. Worse in Bk
Love your videos man!
Great tips!
Estupendo 🙏🏼🫂👍🏼.
This is so good! Thank you!
Thanks for the tips Brandon!
Love it, good stuff!
Eres el mejor
Thanks for sharing,,,
I do the same sort of shots that you do, but yours always teaches me a lot.
I have the same hat. Bought it at the Wolf Sanctuary in West Yellowstone years ago!
Great creative ideas. Thanks for sharing ✌
😮 9:21 35mm man you’re the master I would never know when to change lenses 😮
Awesome live very close to china town, gets some great drone footage at night. Awesome work as always dude - you ever up for joining a super long walk across thailand, more than welcome. - no talking youtube :) haha.
infact you ever want to check out the klongs, its super cinematic and only 3-5km walk, at night its fire. I have a few videos you can see them on - equally happy just to tell you where they are, if your still in Bangkok
Really cool Brandon 😅
Cool !!
thank you for this will be implementing asap
Hi Brandon! Great video. If you could sometimes put on screen the focus settings of the A7SIII you're using (Large, zone, center...), and settings of the RS4 that would really be a super plus.
Thanks a lot! 😄🙏
I was really trying to get away from just the settings. Lots of other settings talk in my other videos.
@ Thanks Brandon and enjoy Paris 😉😉💪🏽💪🏽
helpful tips
Thank you, nice tutorial 😊
How do you clean your audio to this level? It's amazing.
Warorot Market is one of the best places in Chiang Mai to film local life, Lived in Chiang Mai for 5 years before I moved to Chiang Rai a couple of years ago.
Bravoooooo merci
great video, brandon! just curious-why use a hat for shade instead of a lens hood? wouldn’t a hood be more straightforward? thanks for sharing!
Not sure which lens hood you would use, but the little hoods that come with lenses aren't very effective (too short, too small). Matte boxes are more effective but are bulky, affect gimbal balance, and require different filters. And they draw a lot of attention - not a good thing when filming on the street.
En Español ! Perfecto.. gracias.
I live in Chiang Mai, and love going into Wororot Market to shoot photos.
It’s so fun
you're the only one i know that uses those samyang af lenses. They look so nice
They're just practical for me. Nice bokeh, lightweight, matched set. Not the sharpest or lowest breathing etc.
Hi Brandon, loves your work! Do you mind to share your setting on your travel/street videography. It seems I couldnt have the right *cinematic* shots whenever i really focusing on the ISO, aperture and shutter speed.
Do you have general guideline for yours, because I want to try imitate until I find my best own guideline.
Thanks, Love from Malaysia!
I don't mean to discredit your question, because settings are important - but often I see that people are trying to compensate for bad lighting, subjects, or composition by focusing on their gear settings instead. Instead, I suggest using basic settings (base ISO, the usual 1/50 shutter, f2.8 or 4) and then put the rest of your attention on lighting and composition.
@@BrandonLiUnscripted Thanks for the input! Really appreciate it. I have been stray away from getting the right shot due to following people tutorials on the internet instead of finding what is best for me.
Tks bro _()_
I'm really enjoying the video. There are many grips. Which grip do you think gives the most stable video???
You mean which way of holding the gimbal? Upright grip is most stable. Just the default gimbal position.
Sir kindly make a video on get best result on fx30
Great video, would you also film jobs with these lenses?
Yes I’ve filmed many commercial jobs with them
When I’m out on the street with $8k worth of camera gear, I’m a little more paranoid than you are.
Non touristic Thai towns are very safe. I see many Thai photographers leaving their gear bags on the floor during events, and no issues.
Plus, somebody is filming Brandon, so he has company.
Just depends on the safety of the area you're in. I've spent a lot of time in Thailand, know a lot of Thai people. It's safe in Chiang Mai.
Southeast Asia is very safe in general
I was in Africa at an ostrich farm. Saw this hat told myself that is the Brandon hat. Looks exactly the same bought it
It lets the ostriches know who’s boss
CM - was last there 1996.
Is not an osmo pocket 3 enough for this kind of shots? I know it has less dynamic range, but it is much smaller.
I reserve my ZV-E1 normally for skin tones and low light.
Hi Brandon, how do u nail the correct exposure when you glide your camera into a darker spot.. do you set your camera into auto iso?
I use the VND to adjust the exposure
I used fixed lenses (20mm, 35mm, and 85mm) several times for travel videos, but it was too annoying and uncomfortable to keep switching them. Now, I’ve bought a new Sigma 28-105mm for my Sony A7S III for travel shooting.
It’s a great lens, just heavier on the arm
5:46 when do you know between 75mm or 24mm to switch out 😮
Just from experience and some guessing. There's no specific reason.
Were you in manual focus the majority of the time? I know you mentioned it once about doing so on the sign.
Depends on the shot. I tried to narrate when I switched af or Mf
i see as the cars drive by your camera their headlights keep blinking, what makes that happen and how to eliminate that when recording?
Appreciate the tips, what picture profile did you shoot with on Sony A7Siii ,Slog3? thanks
Slog3sgamug3.cine
@@BrandonLiUnscripted Thanks
Are you shooting wide open or do you stop it down 😮
Depends on the shot
Can you please do an iPhone version of this please 🙏
Where'd you get the Aussie rancher hat?
A shop called Overland in Santa Fe, NM
The hat is by the brand Henschel Hat. The model is called Aussie breezer I believe.
@@BrandonLiUnscriptedoverland sells the same style but the one you have it's from ABQ old town 😂
3:02 how do you ask people so confidently 😮
When do you choose 75mm vs 24mm 😮
Thai people are friendly if you're nice.
Do you use the 75mm focal length often or do you have a favourite lens or focal length 😮
Every shoot is different, I don't have any favorite focal length. I just shoot what fits the subject. It just comes from experience using primes.
Can you do this series again with the iPhone please ❤
Hello, Brandon.
I really like your filmmaking courses, I bought them all, but I don't understand why everything is filmed with a gimbal. The movements are not natural, the horizon is always perfect, which makes the video very robotic and boring, as well as unnatural. I also don't understand what's wrong with the flares, isn't this always perfect picture unnatural and boring again, the flares make the scene very interesting and with an ART feel. Otherwise, I really like the content you create and I follow with interest, these questions just popped into my head now and I decided to share them.
Greetings,
A.
I think that speaks more about your taste, and it's what's going to make your footage different from his! To each their own
I use a gimbal a lot with the A7S III because handheld doesn't look very good with lightweight mirrorless cameras. Sometimes I add some shake back in post. Intentional lens flare is great, but unintentional glare just washes out the image, and it's very common in travel videos.
@@BrandonLiUnscripted thank you for your answer. Respect. Be safe.
Not the best streets. Noisy and dirty. Nighttime for Asia is better.
