This is a homerun! Fantastic. Hope you bring this shit up to Spencer Klavan in D.C. He seems like a really nice guy but he's also a bit of a right-liberal true believer. Capitalism and Christianity don't play nicely together no matter how much they do in the fantasies of right-liberals.
Land value taxation will reinforce meritocracy and not create habitable spaces for most people, in fact in practice it forces the poor to move and industry to become more remunerative to the labor aristocracy.
15 minute cities are about designing cities in such a way to provide all the usual amenities within some reasonable distance (like a 15 minute walk), It is not the literal interpretation. This is more prominent in the US because of car centric planning. What they're essentially asking for are closer grocery stores, entertainment, or places to hang out like cafes because somehow that will restore a sense of togetherness. The problem is it is yet another false promise, people think the physical arrangement of the structures of capital is what's leading to the feeling of detachment and disenchantment, and not the capital itself.
Interesting stuff, if things are heading where I think they are a sort of primitive capitalism using barter and hard currencies will form out of necesstity and in a way already are.
Something does not gel listening to you guys, are you sugesting that Capitalism is a false doctrine, it is not sustainable or what are you saying? Lets get back to Genesis, God created all this so we men and women take control and rule over them, to use, to multiply and to replenish. So Capitalism has been popular method of doing just that, so now what are you saying that we need to think of another way to do this? So what is it? 😁😁😅
Automation is how God designed us, how else is our Body suppose to fuction over its life without micro machines working day and night when we sleep. So yes automation is viable according to our demand for services and products and economic sense.
Perhaps one of the problem is we think of our lives and resources as a finite source, so we are afraid of keep going thinking we will fall of the face of a cliff. So when Jesus comes and rules for a millenium, what do you think we will be doing - exactly what Genesis,1 and 2 says but now we have the whole Universe as the source.
I totally disagree with the assertion that the Labour movement will dictate creation and style of living for the future - this will not work. I think it is more likely that people will find a better use of their skills and knowledge to spread out and occupy the world, live in remote areas and get a better quality of life. So long as the Government does not become the evil empire - that may be a problem that Capitalist and Government are becoming one.
1:22:17 Sobornost as developed by Bulgakov in his Philosophy of Economy is a good word.
Love that he goes right after scarcity. That any Christian can accept a scarcity mindset boggles my mind.
Christians don't have minds to be boggled.
Jean is one of the most important voices writing today. Thanks for what you guys are doing.
Absolutely loved this. I'll share it broadly -- thanks...
Thanks!

The Christian god's kingdom is capitalism.
George's land value taxation, unlike Distributism is still a viable model and has been used successfully in many places, notably Pittsburgh, PA.

In the middle of a secular age and now I’m worried I’m going to start this book at the same time haha😅

Of course his book would be a stupidly high price...

I am note sure I want to read this book - but anyway.
