thank you all for sharing your thoughts! was very excited to hear the McLuhan name come up. a peculiar little book published by #EricMcLuhan in 020215 under the title THE SENSUS COMMUNIS, SYNESTHESIA, AND THE SOUL seems relevant to this conversation and your (Stephane) studies. Plato threw out the poets and their mimesis for reading and objectivity. mimesis engages the soul directly on the anagogical level. the McLuhans were always warning of mimesis in the arts, advertising, and electric media! Christ in us, j.

Great episode! Stephane is a fantastic conversationalist and this conversation has been an amazing one! If I may add a comment here ( 1:01:13 ), I also agree that attention to detail and ornaments add life to the environment, similar to how a Persian rug enlivens the space. However, what I learned from discussing Adolf Loos's book Ornament and Crime is that such ornaments reflect the society's priorities, which goes back to the earlier part of this conversation about how buildings represent a society's attention to function at a given time period. When a society is going through war, as was the case when that book was released in the early 1900's, or it is focused on rapidity and constant change, such as today's society influenced by technological advancements, the ornaments and details may not keep up. If no one pays attention to the ornaments on a doorknob, they get removed. Of course the impact is only felt years later when a push back movement starts to value aspects that enrich the living space and reflect life.

Wobblies and minions? Very hard following this talk unless one has read Passionata's book. This is the most inarticulate discussion I have ever had the misfortune to listen to. If I met you guys in a bar at least I could get drunk and bullshit like the rest of you. Or failing that, I could wander off to find someone of my own intellectual ilk, the guys playing pool probably. On second thoughts, I'd probably have a more grounded discussion at the pool table.

Tantalizing Podcast! It had me reevaluating my house as a verb and not a noun. Are stairs meant to bring us up to another level or to bring us down from a higher level? Are doors meant to bring us into a room or close us out of a room? Are windows meant to be opened to the world or protect us from the world?

FYI, there is a book published in 1998 called "The Last Patrician" by Michael Knox Beran, which tells of how RFK Sr was given the book "The Greek Way" by Edith Hamilton, by Jackie in the Summer of 1964, I believe. And how it had a tremendous influence on him. On the night of MLK's assassination, Kennedy quoted Aeschylus to the crowd when he broke the news to them.

I love the way you cover these topics in a wholistic way, not just bitching about whats wrong with everything, in a black and white world, you are nuanced in the best way possible.. I don't know if we need a "new" theology. What we need is a new, and better, understanding of what life is, and what a human being is, and what the ultimate purpose of the Universe is and what our own role in it is. A higher (and deeper) vertical octave, perhaps. And you can't succeed there by negating, opposing, or ignoring Christ and Christianity. You can only get there by incorporating Christ and Christianity and making them the foundation of the new understandings.

I love to hear you all discussing the reallignment. It's not that we want to be fooled, we must put our energy into something that has the potential to stop the momentum of this deadly coarse we're on. The amazing thing about this reallignment, is that there is a movement behind it that I believe will grow and be a force for good, despite who wins the election. Kennedy is not a passerby, like someone like Bernie Sanders was.

The deep state is the way our fears and our addiction to our assigned identities as well fed slightly depressed consumers continues forever. The average American uses 60 barrels of oil a year to maintain our consumer selves. This is the equivalent energy of 500 invisible laborers working twenty-four seven for us. Invisible petrol slaves do the work to keep our .life styles afloat. This is why we fight wars in the Middle East and why we the US is still largest oil producer in the world. If simplicity as imaged by St. Francis could move our collective psyches as much as Talor Swift and billionaire celebrity we might find a way out of our path leading to war and other existential threats. The flesh pots of Egypt were hard to give up. It took an angel of death to motivate the Israelites to exit their chains.

When I was a kid growing up in 60's north St. Louis, my folks took me to the epic historical Hollywood films of the day: Spartacus, to Lawrence of Arabia to Lion in Winter, to Man for All Seasons to Nicholas and Alexandra etc. You could argue I was far too young to digest its content and the veracity of their accounts; however, they formed the foundation of my later learning. Taylor Swift is, largely, a creation of the powers that should not be. This is not a "grassroots" kind of thing. Like our Presidents, she's been chosen. Her songs, even though she's well into her thirties, are mostly teen-age emotional level complaints about her bad choices re: men. Her latest "bad choice" in men, was her support for Joe Biden, which we can assume she's transferring whole hog to Kamala Harris. She's still got the "magic touch" it seems. She's being made popular in order to influence her followers.

KH repeatedly and openly defied U.S. Supreme Court orders to reduce overcrowding in California prisons by preventing the release of fewer than 5,000 nonviolent offenders, whom multiple courts had cleared as presenting next to no risk of recidivism or threat to public safety. This is unconstitutional and unforgivable.

I have been pretty checked out from politics since 2016, but there is something about this man that quickens my spirit. And I find it so helpful to be processing my thoughts and feelings with you two delightful and intelligent people. Michael, I was seriously considering making a trip to Olympia in Sept to see you and the TLC gang, but we’ve got a house full of young kids here in Arkansas and this just isn’t the season. Hope we get to connect sometime. We’ve got a little farm here and my background is in organic horticulture. I’ve started to come back around to Steiner after dismissing biodynamics as quackery when I was a grad student all caught up in my scientism. This ended up being a much longer comment that I intended, but just wanted to say that I really appreciate the way you discuss politics and faith here and you are both the kinds of guys I’d love to have beers with on the back porch. From a biodynamic perspective: let’s make the distinction,, as taught in Australia by the late (and very great Alex Podolinsky) ….. the biodynamic is that which is produced without the materialism of NPK ideology, which may include organic. BD preps transform the purtrification of manure and urine (organic) to “wholly” stabilised humus. Materialistic food production cannot feed the spirit in the same way. And so 500 (cow horn manure, by misnomer ) is seen as the “Christ” impulse. This may seem like splitting hairs, but in essence it explains the demise of culture in the modern era, post 1850.
