    Even as an import guy, I LOVE the non-SS Cobalt. It's a modern version of the early 1970's Ford Maverick sedan. Conservatively stylish budget transportation that offers a lot of value for the money. I love the simple lines and tight aesthetics. Minimalism never looked so good.

      Allen Portz I agree with Hiram. I see Cavaliers quite frequently but have to wait a long time to see a Cobalt come by. Part of that is likely because of how long the Cavalier nameplate was produced for and how many GM sold (a lot!) The Cobalt and Cruze haven’t sold in anywhere near the same kind of numbers.

    These are pretty good cars. I've seen lots at high milage, and have driven a few.
    But they're cheap. The platform is good (Delta platform is still being used by the Cruze and Verano today) but the interior and exterior is cheaply put together. Like really cheap. Tack on the ignition switch fiasco and you can pick a nice one of these up for peanuts and get alot of value for your money.

    • @PhilMante
      @PhilMante 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just bought an '06 Cobalt SS with the NA engine for $1,000, with 322,500 kms when I bought it. it's also my first Stick Shift car, and it's the perfect car to learn stick on because it's so cheap. Best part about the car is the killer stereo, that alone was worth paying the 1,000 for.

    • @Rhodanide
      @Rhodanide 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@PhilMante That's a steal! I got my '07 SS Supercharged for $3,200. But in all honesty I'd take forced induction (especially supercharged) over N/A any day. The sound of the M62 Blower gave me chills every time I heard it for the first few months I got it, and it still never gets old. Going strong on 291,000 km now! How does the N/A SS perform for you?

    • @PhilMante
      @PhilMante 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Rhodanide It's my first Coupe, my first speeding ticket, and my first stick shift. I wanted to get over the fear of driving stick and I did, thanks to this car. I used to hate the idea of driving stick. Now if I invest a lot of money into a car, i'm making sure it's got a clutch and a shifter.
      The 2.4 4-banger isn't as cool as the Super-Charged or the Turbocharged 2.0, and the NA puts out 170 HP, the SC puts out 205 HP while the TC puts out 260 HP but that doesn't matter to me at all. To me that NA is a boombox on wheels with a sunroof, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
      But, if you insist on going fast, I can get it up to 180 KPH/115 MPH, but of course it's not going to accelerate like a turbo would.
      Sadly i'm gonna sell or scrap it. the 325,000 KM count is too high, the brakes are almost shot, the oil pan gasket is leaking, the O2 sensors need to be replaced, the air bag light is on, not sure if this thing went through the ignition recall either.
      I still wouldn't mind throwing down 3-4 grand in the future for a turbocharged one to feel the acceleration.

    That Cobalt SS coupe has incredible handling! At 2:14 it sounds like a mooing cow. I like the Cobalt overall. The materials seem a bit too cheap inside (hard plastic dash, cheap seat fabric, etc), but it seems pretty well built and is very smooth and quiet for an economy car. It drives nice. I just wish it was better looking, not so bland.

    2006 LS, 134k, haven't done any wheel bearings or anything, same engine/trans, barely any rust compared to similarly aged import cars up here, other than some fit and finish problems and recalls (which were promptly done to this one), ive never had an issue. it costs me approximately $400 per year in maintenance which is pretty great for a domestic vehicle. Not to mention it has a speaker issue with the front speakers like a lot of people have had issues with. Once these problems are fixed, hopefully it stops for a while.

Yes, the interior was cheap plastics, badly put together, and yeah the build quality was sub-par... that's how they kept it inexpensive, ffs. Or...here’s an idea...don’t get a GM product if you’re that suspect of the quality.

  • @ScaryGhost1

    I bought a 2010 and was VERY disappointed. Interior quality is TRASH, flimsy as hell. The exterior door handles feel like they're going to fall off and my steering box makes a weird clunking noise.

    If Ford was so great why did they drop Mercury line and not make it better Ford Junk. The freestyle was one of th worst wagons on the road why call it a freestyle and then the Taurus X. STUPID

    • @TheOzthewiz

      Because the Taurus X got rid of the STUPID CVT, and they gave the "X" some decent power courtesy of the 3.5L V6!!!

    GM's small cars are garbage. The Cavaliers weren't the greatest but they were more reliable than the Cobalts and Cruzes.

    The biggest problem with the cobalt was the electric power steering would fail and then came the faulty ignition switches.

    @DrClaw77 A little too much inspiration if I think about it...the interior looks exactly like VW's Golf/Jetta Mk4...engine- opel...shape- opel...what's GM about this car?...and the coupe is exactly the same as the Astra G coupe minus the tail and front lights, they're similar but not the same...But if it's as reliable and economical and simple as the Astra, then it's a good car...even if it's Franken'car... ;)

    I had a 1996 Cavalier LS sedan, was still a better car than a Cobalt. Every friend I knew back in HS had one, every one of them complained about how much money they spent trying to keep up with them. And three of them asked if I wanted to trade my Cavy for a Coby. Hell no, the Cavalier outlasted nearly all the Cobalts in my school's parking lot by senior year, the only Cobalts that were "trouble free" were the 09-10 MY and those kids still made it to school on time. What a pile of crap, and this came from a Cavalier owner at the time.

    Yeah... A good family friend of mine has a 2009/2010 cobalt, almost every feature except leather and heated seats, I've driven it a lot. It sucks. It's not comfy, steering is awful, it only has 50,000 kilometres on it, and it's had multiple issues, at one point it wasn't even starting. She wanted to sell it to me but I ran away as fast as I could. On the good side it was quiet on the highway. Lol,

    "high quality" haha mine is so flimsy i fear it could break any minute, ride has been horrid since i bought it new, my old malibu was better riding. I wanted to trade even for a civic one model year older at the local dealership but he wanted another 6 grand. I'm stuck with the POS until it's paid for. no more GM for me....

    Why the fuck is the interior quality the only thing people care about in a Chevy car? Toyota makes shittier stuff and so does Ford. Stop complaining about the goddamn interior quality and focus on what really matters, the handling, engine and what not. Chevy comes out on top in my opinion.
