A great way to demonstrate even further how strong Hashira are is how we saw Tanjiro struggle, almost die and even use a new breathing technique just to come close to destroying Lower Moon 5, and then Giyuu comes in and decapitates him without a problem. Don't worry though, the Hashira definitely won't be able to beat demons that easily in the future.

The reason Rui survived Tanjiro's attack isnt because he faked his death. Decapition only kills a demon when its with the special sword. So, he cut off his own head, so that Tanjiro's sword couldnt finish him off.

Actually the threads didn't scattered while using Dead Calm Giyu actually moves very fast and here he cut all those threads so quickly we didn't notice him moving any muscles but while using Dead Calm Giyu's heart rate drops tremendously and that's why he can't use it all the time
bro what? he did use dead calm to cut the threads, thats why after he cut the threads you can see the "dead calm" effect on the floor and his sword tip makes a slight ripple in the effect as be brings it back down to the ground

At this point in the show many watchers still don't quite get that demons only die when they get decapitated by demon slayer nichirin swords. Any other method and they can just regenerate. I have seen many reactors confused about this scene.

Fun fact: Rui (lower 5) is actually suppose to be a lot stronger than how we saw him as. He's been in a weakened state because he shares his power with his family members. Had he'd never shared it, then these battles he's had with Tanjiro and Giyuu probably would've gone differently

if they always carried Wisteria then they couldn't effectively hunt the demons as the demons would smell them and know to run away from such poison- it's better as a defensive measure than an offensive one

they gave a bag of wisteria to the boy earlier in the series to ward off demons
they went as part of a reacue operation, so that is why Shinobu was a prime candidate to help as her style is defensive for protection
Shinobu's sword is like those clunky switchable color cartridge pens but like more elegant and bad for your health
Giyu's water breathing style is so majestically serene you'd almost beg to be killed by him.
They don't die if you cut off their heads, they die if you cut off their heads specifically with a demon slayer sword.
That's why he's not dead, because he cut off his own head with his own threads, before Tanjiro's sword.
Demons can remove their own heads and have their heads removed forcibly. It’s only when the special nichirin swords cut their heads off that it’s lethal.
NOT A SPOILER ALERT but, basically all of the hashira are insanely strong not just because they were born strong most of them are older and have been fighting for years and some have even been trained by former hashira. Most of them have also been through hell because of demons and training. As you both progress you’ll start to see the challenges that they have to face. And since you’ve already seen the mugen train movie I think that you have quite the idea of what they have to sacrifice. Also, breathing forms aren’t actually real. The author said that they are just effects so that you can tell apart the different sword techniques that they use, this means that when Tanjiro uses water breathing or when Shinobu uses insect breathin, the water or insects aren’t really there in reality they’re just swinging their sword and striking. And when the spider demon sent an attack at Giyu his body wasn’t a blade or anything. It’s just that he was cutting the webs so fast that you couldn’t see. So when he cut the demons neck he probably went super fast as well. Same with Shinobu.
Speaking of insect breathing, insects don't actually breathe like vertebrates do. Instead of breathing through their mouth, they have multiple spiracles (or breathing holes) all along their bodies to directly deliver oxygen to their organs with a constant flow of air.
Not really relevant to the show at all, but Montana said she thinks bugs are cool, so i dropped a bug fact.
It's interesting how not many of Rui's family have spider related powers at base. Mother has a puppet related ability, Father has an adaptation ability, Brother has a body twisting power, and Sister has an acid/digestion power. None of the powers are automatically spider related, but Rui's blood enhanced them and made them spider related.
I´m always amazed to see Tomioka´s 11th form. He created it himself and it´s such a cool contrast to all other water breathing techniques, he ceases nearly everything and focuses only on defence, he calls it "Dead Calm" and it looks like it from outside, yet he is the opposite of calm at that state..

Eleventh form is pointed out because there are only ten forms of water breathing, as pointed out by Tanjiro in a previous episode. Meaning that the 11th form is an invention of Giyu.
In the 11th form the user becomes incredibly calm and focused and moves their blade faster than perceivable for a time. So he cut every thread in between moments of stillness.
It's tradition for each water breathing user to add an extra form onto the technique once they've mastered the previous ones so Giyus 11th form is his own personal technique once reaching mastery.

So if someone uses an 11th form and someone who studied those forms is shocked by hearing about an 11th then it's fair to assume it was added by that user. As for the fact that mastery of the water breathing forms leads to them adding a new one. It's not an important plot point and isn't some big reveal. It's just a small tidbit.

Gyiuu is crazy strong it took tanjiro using water breathing form 6 consecutive to even beable to cut rui’s thread without his blood infused. Gyiuu without any build up was able to cut rui’s blood infused thread.

From my understanding the poison is stored within the scabbard and then it will go down the length of the sword through the skinny bit and the end basically acts like a needle injection. Meaning Shinobu doesnt have to do much damage, only stab.

Actually that's not a force field in the 11th form (solely invented by giyu himself) the technique is totally calm your body to Fully focus on incoming attacks and attacking it with a lightning speed which is invisible to naked eyes so it feels like nothing actually happened but its not a case at all

Wow just missed a lot for some reason.
Ok so first of all, Giyu's 11th form is one he invented himself, that's why Tanjiro was so surprised when he said it, cause there's only supposed to be 10 forms.
Shinobu listened to the sister explaining how her powers worked, that's why Shinobu knew she had time.
The sister explained how her powers work. First a solvent dissolves the clothing, THEN a strong acid liquefies the victim. So that's why only his clothes were destroyed, he wasn't in long enough to be digested.
Rui cut his own head off using his own thread, the reason he did that is because if he hadn't Tanjiro would have cut his head off, which would have killed him. Demons can survive most normal damage, even beheading, it's the specific sword demon slayers use that kills them. Because he removed his head himself first, Tanjiro did no damage and he was able to heal no problem.
The sister is very much dead, she literally said she can kill demons with her poison, and then she said like twice that she's dead. I don't know why you thought she wasn't dead. Also that's HER poison. Demon poison would do nothing, they're demons.
And Rui's dead now. Giyu cut his head off.

Just to clarify some details. though the comment section already has brought this up a few times. Demons aren't necessarily vanquished when beheaded or decapitated. In fact, you may recall Tanjiro's first fight with an antagonist demon, had his head separated too. Its primarily the Nichirin Swords that can be used to kill Demons. There are lore reasons that have been touched in already, as to why Nichirin weapons have this effect.
Generally with most regular and weaker demons, you may not have to worry too much about what Tanjiro encountered with Rui, but you can consider that demons that are fast enough, powerful enough, and quick thinking enough, may actually consider removing their own head in order to avoid being defeated. Which is what happened. Giyu however is so fast and skilled, such a tactic probably wouldn't work, and thus it didn't.
Also, its not necessarily just that straight forward either, because in this very same episode, we saw another demon death, by the hand of Shinobu. She used a concocted poison utilised wisteria to kill a demon. I'd hazard a guess that there may not be enough of the resources available to so easily make so much of the poison for it to be that potent as a weapon to the degree they would need, to combat most demons. Or maybe its more of a technological limitation as far as processing. I imagine the demon it did kill, may be more vulnerable to it compared to say hypothetically stronger demons, and whilst wisteria may seem abundant, we don't really know the process involved. Like I doubt you could just throw a wisteria leaf in a super soaker and just gun down demons effortlessly.
Ep15 they heard a lot of Demon slayer get killed and belive a Demon moon is on the mounten and send 2 Hashira for the rescue.

Basically dead calm is giyu's own technique he enters a state of complete tranquility, deflecting, blocking and cutting any incoming attacks with imperceptible speed

I think the thing is that it actually needs to be one of the special swords that severs the neck. taking off the head alone does not kill the demon (rememeber the first demon Tanjirou encountered, where he could not bring himself to crush the head?) So this demon severed his own head because he saw himself in real danger if tanjirou managed iit first
Hopefully in the future they will let us see more of their reactions to the post-credits

Dead calm [the 11th firm of water breathing] was invented and can only be used by Giyu as far as we know.
It's an absolute counter technique ie it's designed to counter attacks it looks like he didn't do anything because even deamons have trouble keeping up with how fast his blade moves while using it.

As I'm sure you'll get comments on a bunch of other things I wanted to comment on Shinobu and her focus on punishment for atonement for all the people the demon had killed.
While there's much more going on there the show will surely get into, there's also a lot of more old fashioned Japanese morality tied up in it. I think it important to remember the different moral mindset in this case (even if I also take issue with elements of it, given my own cultural moral sensibilities).
Shinobu is asking demon girl to take responsibility and show true remorse, to willingly except justice for her crimes in a way that is considered appropriate for the place and time period. The mind set being "sure, it will hurt! But facing it proves you are truly sorry and remorseful and not just trying to weasel out of the trouble/debt you've accrued". Incredibly punitive, but as shown with the ghosts being real thing, the belief is there's literally a payment to the dead that must be made so they can rest in peace. You can see this in the ghosts like the fox masked kids at the boulder- only able to leave once their killer had been killed.
Taking responsibility in the way proposed also proving you really wont do it again: if you have the will to go through all of that, you have the will to truly change. And for us to make the exception of not just killing you now for you crimes + any future danger you clearly pose. We require that level of assurance. As has been and will be sated again- they HAVE to be sure, because to be wrong will costs innocents their lives that can never be gotten back. And in their view, demon girl is hardly innocent and has both a debt to pay and a bar to reach to gain that level of trust.
Many a reason to not agree with this mind set (I take many different issues with it), but I think its worth stating what it is and that its not coming from a fully sadistic view; but is more just reflective of the values of the time and place they're in.

Actually the lower moons are very powerful. Lower three had actually divided his power amongst his family so he wasn’t even half as powerful during his fight with tanjiro as he would’ve been had he not given his power to his family. The only difference then would have been that tanjiro would have died really early but nevertheless giyu would still have been able to defeat him after a couple clashes.
The slayers dont have powers. They just move fast and the effects are just vusiuals to help us understand what they do

Shinobu's sword look like a stinger from a deadly poisonous insect. Her calm outward appearance hide alot of inner chaotic mystery. Shinobu will draw your attention every time she on screen.

Sabito and giyu were best friends and they both trained at the same time and went to final selection at the same time.
That year of final selection. No one died and the reason for that is because sabito saved everyone *including giyu*.
Giyu says that sabito should have been the next water hashira not him and that he was the better swordman.
Now current times. Giyu's haori *jacket* is actually split into 2 things. Half is his dead sister and the other half is to honour sabito.
Overall Sabito was the better swordman over giyu and sabito would have been the next water hashira.

not really. Giyu said that if sabito didn't die he would have been the next water pillar. The only reason he died is because his blade snapped. Which could have been nicked from sabito killing every other demon or being exhausted due to killing every other demon.
If sabito didn't do all that he probably would have been near gomei level as a hashira.

About Giyuu’s 11th form:
If you don’t know, breathing techniques don’t create actual water, flames, or anything. Breathing techniques effects like water breathing, it’s just how it’s depicted. If it was actually real, you’d just see their swords being swinged you won’t see the effects from the different breathing techniques. What makes breathing techniques different depends on the swordsmanship of the user. For example, flame breathing is made up of really strong and fast cuts giving a burning sensation to anyone who gets cut by it like fire, while water breathing is made up of smooth and fast movements that resembles the movement of water.
With that out of the way, let’s talk about the 11th form. If you haven’t heard from Tanjiro, water breathing is supposed to have only 10 forms, but Giyuu made an 11th form that only he can use, dead calm. How the 11th form works is what makes it only fit for Giyuu to use. To use the 11th form, Giyuu has to calm his heart rate down to an inhuman level to move faster than the human eye, making it look like he’s just standing still when really he’s cutting the web to shreds. But doing this endangers Giyuu’s health as calming his heart rate down to such low levels can kill him (hence the name ‘dead calm’ ig), that’s why in one battle he can only use it once so he wouldn’t kill himself during the battle. The reason as to why Giyuu was able to make the 11th form is because he practiced lowering his heart rate to use the form for about a year and a half before he can safely use it to fight demons.
- Being cut with a Nichirin sword is the only way to deal actual damage to Demons. They can heal or survive any other injuries dealt to them.
If Tanjiro had cut his head off with his blade, he'd be dead, so before his blade could cut him he cut his own head off. Like a lizard detaching it's tail to survive.
- Giyu using the 11th form is a big shock because there's only ten taught forms of Water Breathing, so the 11th form is one he invented himself.
- The 11th form is not a Forcefield. Demon Slayers don't have magic. They can't just magic a wall out of nowhere.
The 11th form is him focusing all his power and moving his blade faster than even Demon eyes can track. Which is why the threads fell apart before touching him.
- Wisteria is poison to Demons. The Insect Hashira can use it because she keeps them sealed in her scabbard. If everyone used them it'd scare off the Demons.

how are u guys soo confused? a demon can only be killed by sunlight, to have their heads chopped off by a demon slayer sword which is imbued with the power of the sun, or poison with those flowers. any other damage done to a demon means jack all and they can completely regenerate. speed of regeneration depends on the strength of the demon. thats it. the demon separated his own head before the demon slayer sword did the job

Tanjiro would have killed Rui with that strike from the previous episode but Rui used his webs to cut his own head off first. This saved his life because it prevented Tanjiro's sword from decapitating him. Remember, cutting off their head with a demon slayer's sword is one of the only things that can kill a demon. As for making the sister suffer all the pain she had delivered on her victims, I always read that as an offer to be redeemed. It sounded like Shinobu was going to let her live if she took the offer and tried to repent. I could be wrong though.
That's the thing her repenting would be to die and suffer for her sins and then be reborn.
