My New Workshop

  • I thought I would make a quick video to give you an update on my new workshop and go over the progress that I've made so far. I plan on using the space for woodworking and metalworking. Most of the shop is complete but there are still a few things to be done. I will do an official shop tour later in the year after adding new dust collection and getting things organized. Thanks for watching!
    Here is a link to the lights that I used in the new shop (Affiliate)
    amzn.to/2IW7vry 12 pack
    amzn.to/2IVuFOP 4 pack
    amzn.to/2EF3MJx 6 pack
    amzn.to/2H6g01i 10 pack
    Since a few people have asked for the cost of the shop, here is a rough breakdown of the build (So far). I'm sure prices would be different for other parts of the country/world
    Building permits =$500
    Concrete slab = $4500
    Metal building (installed) = $9600
    Electric service = $2400
    Closed cell spray foam insulation = $3000
    HVAC (Craigslist find) = $350
    Plywood, screws and paint (So far) = $500
    Total = $20,850
    (Carolina Carports 20ftwx40ftLx9ft tall walls, 2 roll up doors, 1 entry door, upgraded from 140mph to 180mph wind rating.)

    Self tapping screws are not designed to go through wood. If you pre drill the wood it will make it go smoother. Looks nice. Great job.

    Very nice shop! I am in the process of shopifying my garage and decided to install a sub-panel and outlets as well as insulate the walls for a mini-split AC. To cover the walls up I decided to drywall them... which I never done before. An entire month later, I'm just now starting to wrap things up. There were so many days of going into the shop and wanting to just tear down the drywall and put up plywood or paneling... good choice man!

    This is really quite outstanding in every respect!
    A beautiful, tall and spacious workshop atop it's new, sealed base, superbly insulated and reinforced with the closed cell foam application, which, as I watched I found myself thinking that plywood sheets on the interior would be absolutely perfect... But you'd got that covered, figuratively and literally!
    Your lighting was exceptionally good, really impressive stuff, apart from my repeatedly thinking that you really should be using a taller ladder (that's an observation, not a criticism!).
    Great idea to retain your original workshop tools and equipment layout as you're completely tuned into that positioning!
    Good idea to invest in your optical and respiratory systems by upgrading your dust extraction capabilities, as life especially needs them to be happy systems!
    I'm really happy for you that after all your investment and hard work you can finally get set up and appreciate your beautiful new workshop!
    You should post it on Garage Journal.
    Thank you for sharing your terrific video, viewers worldwide are delighted and inspired at seeing your superb workshop come into being!

    • @TwistedWorkshop77
      @TwistedWorkshop77  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I am happy with the building. I thought the same thing about they seem cheap and I originally thought I need something heavier like red beams but it is holding up well. It's rated for 180 mph winds. I live on central Florida's east coast and we get our fair share of hurricanes. I know a few people with the same type of building and they made it through a couple storms. I was convinced after hurricane Mathew came through and there was a building like this on the beach that life guards keep their equipment and it held up with no damage and there was a lot of damage all through that town. That's when I started saving for one

    I've been watching a lot of videos because I want to build a garage on one of my properties but live in Long Island New York so I can't go is big as you did but so far out of mostly all the videos I've seen you're the only one that I seen with the double garage doors which is extremely smart is now you don't have to move anything out of the way because of the restrictions I have I want to be able to pull my truck in right instead of having a door and a garage door in the front I would like to put the walk-in door on the side with a smaller garage or sliding door so it have a big roll up in the front a entry door and also a sliding door on the side I've yet to see anything done like that

    • @TwistedWorkshop77
      @TwistedWorkshop77  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The brand is Bard. I think you see a lot of them on school portables and trailers. I used this because a friend of mine got a crazy good deal on 2 of them and sold me one for a couple hundred dollars. They are loud compared to a mini split style unit. With the pump and condenser fan mounted to the wall of the building, you hear/feel a drone when it's running. Its quiet enough to hear people talk and listen to music but I did have to turn it off to record the intro of this video. I am happy with it but if I could have found a mini split for close to the same price, I would have went that route

    • @TwistedWorkshop77
      @TwistedWorkshop77  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe the frame steel was thicker and space 4 ft apart rather than 5ft for the 140 mph. We get hurricanes here so the higher rating was better but I really wanted the 4 ft spacing to make it easier to install the 4x8 ft wall boards
