I received my 1999 GS500E last week, this is my second GS500 after my first one was stolen some years ago, loving this reliable fuel efficient Suzuki again, Thanks for posting this video.
@whoscaleb No wood buffer between jack and frame. The jack didn't actually touch the frame, the sides of the jack were holding up the exhaust pipes. At first I was skeptical that this would hurt the exhaust, but it held up just fine. Ask your buddy if you can use the jack from his car.
Good vid Iroquois. Anything a person can do themselves and not pay a shop will save money to buy other things. Like those expensive z rated tires. BTW that "little pin" @ 1:47 is called a "kotter key". You can buy them in bulk and assortment packages @ auto and hardware supply houses.
@whoscaleb For this video, I used slabs of wood. I just took the front tire off today for a tire replacement and used a car jack, it worked much better.
i like how yer cats were like "uhhh... ya, we're not moving..."....lol good vid though buddy, I'd like to do one like this on my bike.... im skeered still... hah
You shouldn't use locking pliers on a nut like that, it can ruin the nut, and your wrench can slip. Get a proper front tire stand, the bike can fall on you if you are not careful

Thanks for the vid. I'm removing my front tire next weekend to replace a bent front axle and your video makes it look pretty easy.
dude i have an suzuki 850gs from 81, and my speedometer gear broke and this video help me so much understanding how i should do! thanks so much!
I’ve got a Suzuki Across (GSX250F) and this video helped heaps as the front wheel is pretty much identical to your bike haha

skeered as in scared? I was too, and I'm still a little uneasy that I didn't put everything back together right... but I dont want to pay a shop.
Thanks for the heads up on that. I need to buy some.

This is an '04. I dont know the dimensions of the wheels, but any package of rim tape will be enough without about a foot to spare.
If you dont disconnect the calipers, you cant take the wheel off. I dont understand what you are saying.
I just wanna see how you jacked up the bike
I was bored and it was a good experience. Yay
The key you removed can be had at any hardware store.
It is good practice to replace a 5cent part now than pay for it later. ;-)
Sorry for the late response, it was marked as spam, anyway... I never had any problems with the rear wheel just by using the manual.
Ive got the service manual for the gs, but do you have any tips for taking off the rear wheel?
Oh dude I get what you are saying. You are correct, you dont have to disconnect it from the forks, but the manual says to... so...
Yeah you should definitely call Suzuki for an oem cotter pin...
very very true.

nice vid
can someone tell me if a gs 500 2005 front wheel would fit a 1998 front wheel?

nice dude
noob here, wuts rim tape? and whats it for...i feel like an idoit.
Man, I do not like the way Suzuki did that front wheel haha. Such a pain. I don't remember my ZZR front wheel being that hard.
Why do Americans need a cotter pin? I want a cotter pin. Dam UK models!!
@burtonrider316 I would imagine so!
Thnx for the vid bro, it helped! But lol monkey wrench that made me laugh,so thnx for the laugh too.
na, but really its just an accent, that also increases visibility
None, I dont think at least.
you sound like Keanu Reeves
@isbastardbunny lol I agree, ah the joys of being 18
yes...skeeeeered.... i have the same dilemma...
it holds the rim and tire together, duh. j/k
My bad. *with about a foot to spare*
Are you guys kidding. It is the absolute wrong way to remove a tire. Vice Grip, Adjustable Wrench, Pliers...
Haha you are absolutely correct. I was young and dumb when I made this video.
You dont own a GS500! Scram!
Thank god 18 year old you made a vid so 17 year old me 10 years later knows what to do,respect bro
