Yes, so do I Abe :) I am using the finer type of chaeto and little bits have been breaking off and clogging up the drain on the bucket. Can I assume the coarser type of chaeto is better for this type of setup?
@@ReefBumProbably. I don't have a problem with a lot of breakage. Although I don't have a strainer over the outlet. It's just the bare PVC pipe. But I don't notice any small pieces in the display or in the sump. Come to think of it, when I first started it, I do remember having a little breakage. For some reason nowadays it holds up nicely.
Thanks for the tip on not needing to stir kalk! I saw implementing a stirring device as a yet another equipment cost maintenance item I didn't want to be bothered with....I’ll now consider using Kalk. Thx
Im dosing 11ml of bionic every hour and its getting difficult........i have to switch also and this is the first video ive seen where someone has done it...thanks for sharing! Keep us updated please 🙏
I don't want to change the subject but i am very interested in what you are doing with your dinos. I had a problem with them a few years back and to put it simply they won and i shut down the tank. Haven't had them since but maybe later you can let me know your system. Many thanks for all the knowledge you bring to your site.
The reason I asked is that I'm using one as well. I also got the idea from abe! I was just wondering what your experience is with it. Mine has been growing pretty steady and keeping my nitrates and phosphate pretty stable at about 5ppm and. 03-.04.
Great video..thanks ReefBum! Seeing those with large tanks going this direction. I also have the porfilux 4 and KH director, I dose soda ash to maintain alk with Ca reactor. SA does increase ph but not seeing reefers using this. Question, I see you’re pulling kalk from like a mile out from reactor, is it important to use the GHL tubing? I try to use 1/4” rodi tube and was struggling to push affluent 6’ to protein skimmer. Also, are you gravity feeding into sump? Great set up. Sorry for long winded post! Thank you for all your great videos!!
Many thanks. The run from the 30 gallon drum to the sump on my 225 gallon tank is about 25 feet and I am using generic 1/4" vinyl tubing. I am only pulling kalk about 6 feet from the drum on my 187. The peristaltic pumps are pushing the kalk down into the sumps.
Great video.. You were dosing quite a bit their with your 2part. Good move with the calcium reactor. My only concern is where you put your effluent line from your calcium reactor to your chamber that houses your protein skimmer. Where it could benefit you in some ways. My concern is that I would do a ICP to see whether there may be depletion in trace elements. The calcium reactor is a good source of that and to be honest I still dose 2ml of trace elements just to keep my systems stable. Just a concern Of mine I am sharing.... Anyways great video and hope this improvement gives you great results... Peace ✌🏼
I do the same thing with the kalk in a big drum but i dont drip into skimmer. Did i read that correct, that Chris said to drip your kalk into skimmer? Do you see an improvement in ph dripping to the skimmer? Thank you for all your helpful vids, you rock!!!!
@@ReefBum with continuous use I've seen it breaking at around the 1 year mark. Some folks replace it with the Pharmed tubings, for more durability. I believe the recent models come with it already, though. I've also seen two cases in this specific pump where the head worn out, lost alignment and chewed the tubing.
Nice video! Btw GHL announced that they are releasing a new Maxi doser which might work better for your kalkwasser dosing. As a GHL rep. do you know when the Maxi 2 will hit the stores?
I was just wondering, could you have your outlet from the reactor going in to your fuge/algae scrubber? The extra CO2 could give you increased macro-algae growth, like injecting CO2 into a freshwater planted tank. You might need a 24 hour photoperiod for the algae though, which might not be ideal.
Hey Keith, I’m going through the same transition on my 80 gallon. Is that 30 gallon container your ATO? If not are you dosing Kalk 24/7 or only at night?
The 30g drum is for kalk and I am dosing a set amount each day. I have a separate ATO setup. It is best not to run kalk through an ATO since the amount of kalk dosed each day will change depending on the evaporation rate, which is not good.
Did you have any issues with salinity creeping up when dosing ESV b ionic? In currently dosing twice as much now on my 75 gallon but i notice after 2 weeks my salinity goes from 1.026 to 1.027.
Love the bucket refugium!

So far so good after a couple of weeks. UV seems to be doing the trick. Fingers tightly crossed ;)

I tried, it did not help with the ph for me.. I'm dosing at 10ml/min
Yes, drip it into the intake of the skimmer pump.
I would put the kamoer dosing pump in a spill proof container, because they are notorious for breaking the tubing.
Thanks, how long does the tubing last before it needs to be replaced?

I would say SSC are not that hardy, but they are classic sps . Enjoy your videos and live stream.

Many thanks. Yes, very excited to see a replacement for the Maxi Doser. No insight on my end in terms of its release.

I have thought about doing that but the skimmer would be the best place to de-gas the C02.

Every 2 part will raise salinity. Water changes or wet skimming will help bring it back down
Yes, I did see that effect.
