dark trinity red hood was the peak for me. and when he shot penguin in the face and was being hunted by batman...... that was the best cliff hanger in any of his series
Real ones remember how much Benny loved him some Agent Venom Flash and some Red Hood Jason. Salute, he served his country and the world, helped so many. Truly a special guy.
More of these please. I really enjoyed this. And it help fill in the gaps for parts I missed, as well as helped me reorganize events I had out of order.
I think that the events of Red Hood: The Hill is set after the Rebirth Red Hood series and Joker War but before Infinite Frontier and everything after it.
Thank you so much for this video Ive been watching and reading a lot of red stories to figure out the main cannon timeline for him, so thanks for the video I love the channel.
Everything Post Infitite Crisis to Pre New 52 is great. Winick and Starlin are the only writers to due the character justice, Pre-Crisis made him a clone of Dick Grayson, New-52 just made him the generic anti-hero redemption story which turn him into Red Nightwing with guns.
like the video but i believe (could be wrong) that the batman urban legends series timeline happened before the task force z timeline. at the end of urban legends is when he gives up the guns hence the new outfit and new guns in task force z
"Cheer" is ignored in continuity at this point, but I just wanted to mention it because it does give an ending to red hood, even if we're completely ignoring it by Task Force Z. I mentioned them backwards because in our original script the writer hadn't read task force z, only I had on the team. So I inserted that one because it does get referenced and then remembered Cheer and wanted that mentioned to. But your right they could probably be swapped
Great video as always! Though not to be that guy, but the Hill storyline actually takes place right after Joker War and before the Cheer and Task Force Z storylines. I think it was supposed to come out like 3 years ago but the writers weren’t able to get back to it until a couple months ago which is why we’re getting it now.
I appreciate this update cause I've been so lost on what was going on with Jason since the Dark Trinity ended! Poor Jason at the end just getting controlled left and right, hopefully things will be better for him in the future in terms of writing.
Great video. I love getting a full story styled video, and it is the kind of thing I suggest to people. That being said, the Red Hood is a great example of how awful the writing at DC has been for the past ten years. This character is so cool and he only has like five good stories in the comics. And as explained in this video, none off the better character developments are actually expanded upon. Instead they always return to "edgy Batman that uses guns" which has gotten very old. Also, I know three jokers is not technically cannon but that story did a good job of actually pushing the character forward, but it seems like there is an editorial mandate to keep Jason in a rut fro the rest of his life in comics.
Its only when getting a condensed readthrough of different events and storylines do the comic book tropes quickly have you going: "Of course that happened" or "figures" because every climatic moment is either revealed to be a fakeout or walked back in some contrived way.
I may be crazy but everytime I heard Benny say 'Outlaws", all that filled my brain is Outlawed by Attila. No mercy for you now as we are Outlawed!!! No mercy for you now, OUTLAWED!!!
@@fdjtron1732 Maybe, but every time I see a conflict between Jason and anyone else in the Bat Family, 9 times outta 10 he's not going to win. Maybe because when he does fight them he's seen as the villain so he kinda has to lose but there's plenty of times he's not and he still gets his ass handed to him LMAO
Awesome video. I always thought Three Jokers was a great addition to Jason’s story as well. For me, it works really well if Three Jokers takes place between the New 52 and Rebirth. The New 52 Outlaws run was fun, but Jason never really grew past his trauma with the Joker, so it makes sense that the Clown Joker could get to him to break. It would also explain his love interest with Barbara. I know most people don’t like it (myself included), but they were hinting their relationship / mutual interest in Batman Eternal. However, once Three Jokers is over, it sets up Jason’s Rebirth story perfectly. Bruce gives him one last chance to operate in Gotham, given he doesn’t kill (since the Clown Joker incident is still fresh in Bruce’s mind). And he moves on from Barbara since she never received his note, and finds his true love (imo): Artemis. But hey, that’s just my own head cannon.
I never heard of the hill, but I was reading wonder woman paradise lost where they mention the hill as a neighborhood controlled by one of the god possessed villains.
It might be a longer video, but I think Wally West needs a recap, given how much crap that poor character has gone threw, especially since his return in DC Universe Rebirth. From his character assassination to the retcons that have gone a long way to fixing him, Wally's history is an unnecessarily tangles mess of disrespect for such a beloved hero.
DC needs to give Jason his own Justice League. Yes the Outlaws exist but have them all together. Roy Harper, Artemis, Bizzarro, Starfire, Ravager and Spoiler.
I can understand all of them, except for Steph. Why include her? She doesn't fit at all. The others have some sort of connection with Jason, mainly having been on one of his teams, but he barely interacts with Steph.
Jesus. Can't they just stop writing such weird stories with Jason? I feel like they have tried to overeexplain his character somehow. He needs a completely new reboot and I'm more simpler gold. What makes Jason cool and interesting is his mystery in a way. I feel like taking him on the path of a troubled robin to dead to A merciless Anti-hero with Ah questionable Outlook on the world is the best way to just write him. You keep him vague. Give him a bit of an edgy attitude and being alone Wolf. And Batman with guns basically and you have him..

Comicstorian I have a question for you on crisis infinite earths what happened to teen titans 2003 tv show universe will it be revived in crisis of infinite earths part 3 movie
Nothing good. The latest comics in Red Hood: The Hill barely use him as a side character in his own title. The entire Outlaws series was nothing but an wannabe edgy version of Teen Titans, clearly DC made the wrong choice in firing Winick for Lobdell.
After watching casually comics and just hearing about pre crisis jason, it made me wonder what the writers had in store for him! I mean, wasn't he the original Red Robin? I could see it really work.
Original Red Robin is Kingdom Come Grayson. Jason Todd was Red Robin on Earth-51. In Countdown to Final Crisis, Red Hood/Jason from the mainstream universe got Red Robin's suit from Earth-51 Batman. He used it for a while but then threw it in garbage. Then the suit was found by Tim Drake's rogue and then Tim took it from him. Pre-crisis Jason isn't Red Robin
To be honest pre-infinite crisis Jason was basically a Dick Grayson ripoff copycat. Post-infinite crisis laid the foundation of his character being an antihero that we all know and love. Winick was the peak of Jason's characterization. Lobdell and everyone that came after was the fall of Jason's characterization.
Man, I always forget how zany comic book stories sound when you consider that most of a character’s stories are around one city Meanwhile in Green Lantern they have most of the DC universe to draw from but somehow every other villain is someone the Guardians locked away 10,000 years ago but didn’t do a good job of it…
Yeh reading through Geoff John’s run that’s basically everything. The guardians sucked so much that they fucked up so many things they blacked out an entire sector
Back in the late 80s, there were two 900 numbers that people could call to vote on whether to save or kill Jason Todd. Looking back, it seems crazy that fans had the power to decide the fate of a superhero. In my opinion, Jason Todd should never have returned as a hero, given that the fans voted to kill him. If DC wanted to use his character license, they could have written him as a new villain for the Bat-family. That's what I would have done. Jason knows all of the Bat-family's secret identities, and the location of the Batcave, and probably has access to it since he was believed to be dead. Todd could still have been the Red Hood, as the Joker abandoned that gimmick. But Jason would just be a villain.
@@senittoaoflightning4404 I’m guessing this will be what they say about Trump losing later this year. Even if that were true, there should have been enough votes to counter.
