Larry, great interview! I will never forget my Drill Sergeant James at Ft. Campbell in 1969. He had the ability to instill fear, respect, concern, motivation, drive, and teamwork all at the same time. You could tell he sincerely believed in what he was doing and conveyed his Vietnam experiences to all of us trainees.
Not many of us can say we forgot about our DS. It's been many years but I still can remember the impact they would make on us. Thank you SSG Holloway for your service and sacrifices for our great country.
Thank you Sgt. Johnnie Holloway for all you have done. They need to bring the draft back. A lot of young people need to learn Respect, Discipline, Honor and Duty. Also our lost young people need to do something with their lives and I believe the Military will change them in a positive way. God Bless everyone 🙏🇺🇸
Yes, Teri, I agree with you. I regret having never been selected to serve. Too young for Vietnam. Our young people today lack the opportunity that many of my Veterans on this channel had the honor of doing. Thank you for your comment 🇺🇸
I took basic at Ft Dix New Jersey July 1970. I was assigned to D 1/2. My Sr Ds name was SFC Timmy D ( and the D doesn't stand for darling)Williams a Vietnam vet. He was slender and brought the smoke. He made me into a soldier. I spent 22 years in the military and retired. I have retired for 32 years now. All Army soldiers never forget their DS.

A draft would destroy the military. We'd be dealing with severe disciplinary problems.
@voicesofhistory what's stopping people from enlisting if they desire to serve? Did you consider enlisting when you were younger?

With respect to the drill sergeants having been to BCT at Fort jackson, i can say they do a damn good job at it, too 🇺🇸
The most memorable story I've heard was the under age black guy who joined at like 14 and was a DI at 17
Norwood Fowler. Great story.
@VoicesofHistory an amazing story 👍
Much respect, but Drill Instructor’s are Marines, Drill Sargents are Army !
Thank you Fred.

Interesting. However, not enjoying the camera angles.
