Thank you for making this. Looking at comments of this video it is clear that it has brought many people together through shared thoughts and experiences. Aswell as bringing back a lot of good memories (including my own). The song alone was enough to bring a tear to my eye but the storys you brought with made me cry. I just now realized the meaning of the picture. There are 3 people on the rowboat from a 4 man galleon that sunk by the kraken. The 4th man, the captain is going down with the ship while the rest of the crew escapes. Such a heart wrenching scene.

I remember like a few months ago we had a good friend who was about to leave us for a year so 4 of us got on a galleon and a brig crew let our other 3 friends join. We played for hours before the moment we didnt want to come arrived. We all gathered at the same outpost dock where he first started the game and began to all play becalmed. But my leaving freind was staying onboard the galleon, while we were playing he lowered the middle sail of the galleon and slowly started to sail away. We cried and playing becalmed at the same time. But we all cried harder when it said _______ had left the crew and we couldnt hear him. Then he left the party. Havent played Sea of Thieves since...

I’m seeing all of these deep comments talking about this song. I didn’t think anything of it until suddenly I think of all of the memories i’ve had in this game. Friends I made, or even fun or crazy journeys. Sometimes I wonder why I ever stopped playing this game. I miss it

I had a friend who went into the army for a couple of months and I stopped playing and now he’s back and we started playing again. It’s never to late, until your last breath
The game is better than ever in my opinion. Back in the early days there just wasnt enough content. They have added so many things now. Harpoons, fishing, arena, the game is fun and remains fun for a while

I did this. Every. Single. Time. We'd make a lot of gold for the day, and me and my best friend would start this song and scuttle our ship together. We accidentally got the achievement not realizing thats what we had to do. We were just paying respects to our Baby Clam (a sloop) who fought off galleons and brigs, and battled off krakens and skeleton ships. We always had a good time playing
My friend and I made a tradition of doing this whenever we were going to log off. We recently got back into the game and we're playing. Our ship, which we call the Bloody Richard, had survived so many conflicts. 7 megaladons, 3 ghost galleons, 5 ghost sloops, and about 3-4 player battles. We were sailing away from an objective, and we saw another player. We battled and lost. I regret not being able to play this song as that warrior of a ship sank beneath the waves, but we both thought it was fitting it got a warriors death

What is a man if he has never wept for his ship? I asked myself that same question when I slept. She was as beautiful and fierce as a queen, and her hull stronger than the sea. The sight of Her sails as soothing as a mother's embrace, and her deck never woeful as we filled it with our happiness and love. Her cannons as swift as justice, and the fire from them as punishing as a storm's vengeful song. May she find peaceful rest at the bottom of the sea, it cradling her ever so gently, as her crew grieved the ever sorrowful loss.
Its sad that people think gamers are inferior to society in many ways, and you know what, just because we hang out with our friends on videogames doesn't mean we don't care about anyone or anything, (although some people dont) it means we're doing something we love to do. For me I heard this song right after my grandmother passed away. I’ve always connected the two. So when I hear this now I tear up thinking about her and how much I miss her.
I remember a time, not so long ago, when me Brig and a fleet of Galleons, Brigs, Sloops, all together to take out the Skeleton ships. We fought bravely, but we had been rammed by them, we tried our best to Save our ship, but to no avail. As me crew mates found refuge on the Galleon, I stayed behind Hurdy Gurdy in arms, playing Becalmed. God this is a great song.
Bit of a modern take, but here it goes... Dents in our hull and holes in our deck, we continued to fire onto the massive behemoth of a battleship a few miles off. The rain coated the deck. Somehow, volley after volley, our old cruiser took a beating. Ever miss from the behemoth filled us with joy, yet fear at the same time. We had no idea if we were doing anything, but all that counted was that we put up a fight. Propellers jammed, rudders broken, we never let up our fight. Our front cannon was hit. The explosion from the ammo rocked the ship. That hit promised our demise. But knew if we stopped fighting, they would win, and that could not happen. With our bow sinking fast, we continued our siege. That mighty battleship would not go down without a fight either. Some of us abandoned ship, I did. As we sailed off in our dinghy, I watched another barrage blast the bridge. Another barrage blew that precious beast to pieces. I watched our cruiser, the same ship I had been on for years, was now gone. Lost to the waters of time. I watched the smoke rise as it sunk into the darkness beneath us. I never thought I would shed a tear for a ship, but that day, I did.
This is... Well, it's beautiful. I really like this. Regardless of the origin, the actual track is perfect. The key, the tempo, the chord progression. It honestly *feels* like the calm blue ocean made in to music.

I know a lot of people like to equate Becalmed to a more mournful piece, and- while it does have a pretty somber air to it- it feels a lot more bittersweet to me. I'm sort of new to Sea of Thieves, so I don't know how long it took for the song to get its lyrics, but their introduction brings up the tone of the song a little. It's sort of how, even if you're in a bad place now, there'll be a time in the future where everything's a little brighter, and the wind's in your sails. Great rendition of the piece, mate. One of the better ones I've seen on here.
I would say it's a very hopeful song. A song that can remind you that whatever trouble you're facing, when the air is still, you can have comfort knowing that soon enough, the winds will blow your sails out of hardship.
I've had this on my mind for a while. "It's not about the gold. It's about the glory!". He's right, you know. It never was about the gold. Sure, gold is important for the day to day life of a pirate. But ultimately, gold is temporary. You can't take it with you when you die. Not in a way that matters. What matters is what you leave behind. How will you be remembered? What will you be remembered for? What story will be told about you? It doesn't matter if you have all the gold in the world. If you leave behind a story that people will tell for generations to come, that's how you become a real pirate legend. Being honest, the rewards for this storyline weren't all too special. However, think about it. You put together the Shroudbreaker, sailed through the Devils Shroud, made it to the Shores of Gold, solved all of the temple riddles, and brought down the Gold Hoarder himself, thus ending the curse of darkness on that island. That's a tale that will go down in history to be shared forevermore. It's not about the gold, it's about the glory. And in the end, that's good enough for me.
Every time it nears the end of my journey me and one of my friends always play this song, sailing where ever the tide takes us, staring at the beautiful night sky. Almost brings a tear to my eye.
Cried more than I have I Years when I heard this, I grew up to this game and I have so many good memories that now rest on the sea floor with my sailors capstan. Truly an amazing game.
It's honestly amazing how just one instrument can totally change the vibe of this song. Besides the halo 2 theme song.. this is the only other song that can bring a tear to my eye. 10/10 my fren.
I remember, my crew and I were doing voyages in the devil's roar. We had amassed a solid 20 chests (marauder's and captain's with 2 chests of sorrow and 1 chest of 1000 grogs), we were too stupid to make trips delivering loot each time we got it just to be safe. Then due to terrible rng, simultaneously 2 volcanoes started erupting on both sides of us. We were frantically repairing and bailing out water for at least 3 long minutes when the all the masts were knocked out. At that point the water reached the mid level of our galleon. We gave up on repairs when we finally realized that all the treasure was lost. We probably couldve saved it if we had a rowboat but that got smacked by a volcano too much. We stood together playing this song as the ship sank. As we played, we reflected upon the past 3 hours of fleeing erupting islands and aggravation of random geyser spawns. Some of us almost cried about how hard we worked for so long all for it to be torn away. After that we all logged off for at least a week in shame and regret. That ship held through for the entire play session. She was the bravest of all of us. Use this as a lesson, never trust the devil's roar because it's a complete d**k. But more importantly, always. ALWAYS. Respect your ship's bravery. Even though it may be an inanimate object, she will take you through hell and back (sometimes even literally).
It was a rainy day for the crew but they were still managing to keep the ship up and kicking as they tended to the fort of skeletons that held their bounty. They finally beat back the skeletons and scraped every last piece of loot. The crew was nearing the outpost as the lookout screamed from the crows nest that it was about 200 meters ahead. Suddenly a ship drifts in from behind a large rock. The crew not wanting to lose their loot decided to fight for it. Struggling but managing the crew follows the captains every order. The battle was starting to look up for the crew until they notice some people in the water below their Ship. Two men from the enemy ship dropped gun powder barrels underneath the Hull. The captain screams for everyone to proceed to the upper deck of the ship. Two big explosions come from underneath the ship. The captain knows the fate of their battle and proceeds to grab his hurdy gurdy and climb up to the crows nest as distant cannon fire can be heard. The crew yelling at the captain for his orders question his actions. He replies back with "ABANDON SHIP" the crew follows his orders as the popular Shanty Becalmed can be heard coming from the top of the crows nest. As whats left of the crew swims away one of them asks, "What is he doing". Another replies with "He is doing his duty as a captain by staying loyal to his crew and ship til the very last second", "A captain always goes down with his ship". The crew watches as the cannons blast away the ship til it hits the ocean floor. But the melody did not stop playing. It was continued as Jones took him aboard. Some say if you sail by the Wreck of The Blessing of Athena. The tune can still be heard playing to this day.

This reminds me of my times as a Captain of my Beautiful Galleon and her dramatic fate: We were sailing, the night was dark, pitch black. We spotted a glow on the horizon, a Galleon. We dimmed the lights and cautiously watched as it drew ever closer. They fired the first volley, they splashed far ahead of us, we returned fire but suffered the same fate. They fired volley after volley, rarely ever getting close to our ship. After a couple minutes of exchanging fire they tired to close the gap. We fired a broadside into it's bow, they pulled a hard starboard turn to fire another volley. They hit us directly in the side, we were taking on water incredibly fast. We returned a final volley. "Prepare to Abandon ship lads... Take everything with you, leave none behind for these Bastards" I commanded as the cannon balls flew over head. "Captain... What about you?!?" My first mate bellowed, I could hear his voice break as he said it... "A Captain goes down with his ship..." I said whilst returning fire, in hopes of delaying the other ship's approach. I watched those glorious bastards load the cargo and drop the rowboat while I stood firm holding them back as long as I could... they gave up on me after reaching the lower decks a started to leave... I climbed the crows nest and watched my crew sail into the night safely with our spoils...
The one game out there that makes the people we meet and the adventures we have seem as if they have happend in real life and makes us remember the crew mates we lost touch with and the adventures and tales never forgotten. Thank you
Say what you will about Sea of Thieves as a game, but it utterly exceeds in creating a mythological, pirate-ish atmosphere where songs with such emotion like this fit right in alongside the more whimsical elements. You can be jovial one moment and melancholy the next, and I know of few online game capable of such a thing.
God.. ive been listening to the Sea of theives sound tracks.. and its this one, this is the one that makes me smile, and remember the good times ive had, shooting eachother out of cannons, playfully lighting the boat a blaze, finishing stories, quests, and fighting other ships... making alliances, the friends ive made-! And the funny foes ive crossed paths with... i dont play much now.. since my dad had died.. god, we played all the time.. wed blast sea shanties as we sailed.. but aye, he said i wasnt a good sailor, couldnt stay focused and be serious. Ahah- well look at me now dad... i took on a galleon, all by myself while being on a brigantine, my friends were on the island getting the loot we needed while i distracted the galleon. And i took er down-!.. The point of those stories.. is that youll make a lot of friends and have good times here on sea of thieves,

This brings a kind of happiness because my friend log off of sea of thieves for the last time and we played this song as he left the game then the party for the final time he was a good man hes out there some where and we are still waiting for a long lost crew mate to make his return. 😓

This needs to be featured at the end of a pirate film, or just any film, just as the credits are about to roll. It’d be a lovely goodbye. Just one long shot of happy pirates on their ship, drinking rum together as they sail off into the sunset, and it fades to black.
Once my friend and I went out just to have fun on a sloop. Little did we know, a kraken was lurking in the waters. Our small beloved ship was suffering from a lack of materials. We gave the fight our all. Once we realized our ship didnt stand a chance, we equipped ourselves with a hurdy gurty and an accordion, and played this song alongside our ship as the very thin thread it hung on, snapped. This is what plays as the lone pirate grows away with the haul as his Captian and crew come to terms with their last moments at Sea. The Sailor looks on, Kraken has wrapped their Galleon as enemy vessels bombard with cannons from afar. You can hear the wisp of death and finally..shes sent to the drink. Captian and crew. But what of the sailor? He plays this tune in the Legends Hideout forevermore
Watching the waves lap against the ship was always relaxing without my sea legs I might've felt sick once but now I watched as the sun slowly sunk beneath the waves the light turning the ocean a sea green the salty breeze ruffling my hair as I smiled sitting on the crowd nest.
On the paddle boat to safety, as I sadly watch as all of my precious treasure and my beloved ship sinks, it's sad to see that I am the only survivor of the crew as the gallion goes under

Its sad that people think gamers are inferior to society in many ways, and you know what, just because we hang out with our friends on videogames doesn't mean we don't care about anyone or anything, (although some people dont) it means we're doing something we love to do. This poem is an example that gamers do have emotions and can function like any other person
For me I heard this song right after my grandmother passed away. I’ve always connected the two. So when I hear this now I tear up thinking about her and how much I miss her.
I remember a time, not so long ago, when me Brig and a fleet of Galleons, Brigs, Sloops, all together to take out the Skeleton ships. We fought bravely, but we had been rammed by them, we tried our best to Save our ship, but to no avail. As me crew mates found refuge on the Galleon, I stayed behind Hurdy Gurdy in arms, playing Becalmed. God this is a great song.
Bit of a modern take, but here it goes...
Dents in our hull and holes in our deck, we continued to fire onto the massive behemoth of a battleship a few miles off. The rain coated the deck. Somehow, volley after volley, our old cruiser took a beating. Ever miss from the behemoth filled us with joy, yet fear at the same time. We had no idea if we were doing anything, but all that counted was that we put up a fight. Propellers jammed, rudders broken, we never let up our fight. Our front cannon was hit. The explosion from the ammo rocked the ship. That hit promised our demise. But knew if we stopped fighting, they would win, and that could not happen. With our bow sinking fast, we continued our siege. That mighty battleship would not go down without a fight either. Some of us abandoned ship, I did. As we sailed off in our dinghy, I watched another barrage blast the bridge. Another barrage blew that precious beast to pieces. I watched our cruiser, the same ship I had been on for years, was now gone. Lost to the waters of time. I watched the smoke rise as it sunk into the darkness beneath us. I never thought I would shed a tear for a ship, but that day, I did.

I know a lot of people like to equate Becalmed to a more mournful piece, and- while it does have a pretty somber air to it- it feels a lot more bittersweet to me. I'm sort of new to Sea of Thieves, so I don't know how long it took for the song to get its lyrics, but their introduction brings up the tone of the song a little. It's sort of how, even if you're in a bad place now, there'll be a time in the future where everything's a little brighter, and the wind's in your sails.
Great rendition of the piece, mate. One of the better ones I've seen on here.
I would say it's a very hopeful song. A song that can remind you that whatever trouble you're facing, when the air is still, you can have comfort knowing that soon enough, the winds will blow your sails out of hardship.

I've had this on my mind for a while.
"It's not about the gold. It's about the glory!". He's right, you know. It never was about the gold. Sure, gold is important for the day to day life of a pirate. But ultimately, gold is temporary. You can't take it with you when you die. Not in a way that matters.
What matters is what you leave behind. How will you be remembered? What will you be remembered for? What story will be told about you? It doesn't matter if you have all the gold in the world. If you leave behind a story that people will tell for generations to come, that's how you become a real pirate legend.
Being honest, the rewards for this storyline weren't all too special. However, think about it. You put together the Shroudbreaker, sailed through the Devils Shroud, made it to the Shores of Gold, solved all of the temple riddles, and brought down the Gold Hoarder himself, thus ending the curse of darkness on that island. That's a tale that will go down in history to be shared forevermore.
It's not about the gold, it's about the glory. And in the end, that's good enough for me.

Every time it nears the end of my journey me and one of my friends always play this song, sailing where ever the tide takes us, staring at the beautiful night sky. Almost brings a tear to my eye.
Cried more than I have I Years when I heard this, I grew up to this game and I have so many good memories that now rest on the sea floor with my sailors capstan. Truly an amazing game.
It's honestly amazing how just one instrument can totally change the vibe of this song. Besides the halo 2 theme song.. this is the only other song that can bring a tear to my eye. 10/10 my fren.

I remember, my crew and I were doing voyages in the devil's roar. We had amassed a solid 20 chests (marauder's and captain's with 2 chests of sorrow and 1 chest of 1000 grogs), we were too stupid to make trips delivering loot each time we got it just to be safe. Then due to terrible rng, simultaneously 2 volcanoes started erupting on both sides of us. We were frantically repairing and bailing out water for at least 3 long minutes when the all the masts were knocked out. At that point the water reached the mid level of our galleon. We gave up on repairs when we finally realized that all the treasure was lost. We probably couldve saved it if we had a rowboat but that got smacked by a volcano too much. We stood together playing this song as the ship sank. As we played, we reflected upon the past 3 hours of fleeing erupting islands and aggravation of random geyser spawns. Some of us almost cried about how hard we worked for so long all for it to be torn away. After that we all logged off for at least a week in shame and regret. That ship held through for the entire play session. She was the bravest of all of us. Use this as a lesson, never trust the devil's roar because it's a complete d**k. But more importantly, always. ALWAYS. Respect your ship's bravery. Even though it may be an inanimate object, she will take you through hell and back (sometimes even literally).
It was a rainy day for the crew but they were still managing to keep the ship up and kicking as they tended to the fort of skeletons that held their bounty. They finally beat back the skeletons and scraped every last piece of loot. The crew was nearing the outpost as the lookout screamed from the crows nest that it was about 200 meters ahead. Suddenly a ship drifts in from behind a large rock. The crew not wanting to lose their loot decided to fight for it. Struggling but managing the crew follows the captains every order. The battle was starting to look up for the crew until they notice some people in the water below their Ship. Two men from the enemy ship dropped gun powder barrels underneath the Hull. The captain screams for everyone to proceed to the upper deck of the ship. Two big explosions come from underneath the ship. The captain knows the fate of their battle and proceeds to grab his hurdy gurdy and climb up to the crows nest as distant cannon fire can be heard. The crew yelling at the captain for his orders question his actions. He replies back with "ABANDON SHIP" the crew follows his orders as the popular Shanty Becalmed can be heard coming from the top of the crows nest. As whats left of the crew swims away one of them asks, "What is he doing". Another replies with "He is doing his duty as a captain by staying loyal to his crew and ship til the very last second", "A captain always goes down with his ship". The crew watches as the cannons blast away the ship til it hits the ocean floor. But the melody did not stop playing. It was continued as Jones took him aboard. Some say if you sail by the Wreck of The Blessing of Athena. The tune can still be heard playing to this day.

This reminds me of my times as a Captain of my Beautiful Galleon and her dramatic fate:
We were sailing, the night was dark, pitch black. We spotted a glow on the horizon, a Galleon. We dimmed the lights and cautiously watched as it drew ever closer. They fired the first volley, they splashed far ahead of us, we returned fire but suffered the same fate. They fired volley after volley, rarely ever getting close to our ship. After a couple minutes of exchanging fire they tired to close the gap. We fired a broadside into it's bow, they pulled a hard starboard turn to fire another volley. They hit us directly in the side, we were taking on water incredibly fast. We returned a final volley.
"Prepare to Abandon ship lads... Take everything with you, leave none behind for these Bastards" I commanded as the cannon balls flew over head.
"Captain... What about you?!?" My first mate bellowed, I could hear his voice break as he said it...
"A Captain goes down with his ship..." I said whilst returning fire, in hopes of delaying the other ship's approach.
I watched those glorious bastards load the cargo and drop the rowboat while I stood firm holding them back as long as I could... they gave up on me after reaching the lower decks a started to leave... I climbed the crows nest and watched my crew sail into the night safely with our spoils...

Say what you will about Sea of Thieves as a game, but it utterly exceeds in creating a mythological, pirate-ish atmosphere where songs with such emotion like this fit right in alongside the more whimsical elements. You can be jovial one moment and melancholy the next, and I know of few online game capable of such a thing.
God.. ive been listening to the Sea of theives sound tracks.. and its this one, this is the one that makes me smile, and remember the good times ive had, shooting eachother out of cannons, playfully lighting the boat a blaze, finishing stories, quests, and fighting other ships... making alliances, the friends ive made-! And the funny foes ive crossed paths with... i dont play much now.. since my dad had died.. god, we played all the time.. wed blast sea shanties as we sailed.. but aye, he said i wasnt a good sailor, couldnt stay focused and be serious. Ahah- well look at me now dad... i took on a galleon, all by myself while being on a brigantine, my friends were on the island getting the loot we needed while i distracted the galleon. And i took er down-!..

This needs to be featured at the end of a pirate film, or just any film, just as the credits are about to roll. It’d be a lovely goodbye. Just one long shot of happy pirates on their ship, drinking rum together as they sail off into the sunset, and it fades to black.

Once my friend and I went out just to have fun on a sloop. Little did we know, a kraken was lurking in the waters. Our small beloved ship was suffering from a lack of materials. We gave the fight our all. Once we realized our ship didnt stand a chance, we equipped ourselves with a hurdy gurty and an accordion, and played this song alongside our ship as the very thin thread it hung on, snapped. This is what plays as the lone pirate grows away with the haul as his Captian and crew come to terms with their last moments at Sea. The Sailor looks on, Kraken has wrapped their Galleon as enemy vessels bombard with cannons from afar. You can hear the wisp of death and finally..shes sent to the drink. Captian and crew. But what of the sailor? He plays this tune in the Legends Hideout forevermore

Watching the waves lap against the ship was always relaxing without my sea legs I might've felt sick once but now I watched as the sun slowly sunk beneath the waves the light turning the ocean a sea green the salty breeze ruffling my hair as I smiled sitting on the crowd nest.
The only way to make me play this game again is if they allow me to whip out a piano and start playing.
