Thumbs up for restoration of this Tipper! I also own one of these trucks (long wheel base with wooden cargo bed & steel sides and split axles). They are truly great trucks and also comfortable to drive on longer distances. The ones with split axles are faster than the Jimmys with Banjo axles. And awesome in any terrain with 6x6 all-wheel drive. I am curious how your resto work proceeds. Good luck!!!
Lovely gentle way to free up the stuck open valves . A real passion for vintage equipment ! Now it's running on 3 1/2 cylinders it's off to be filled with snails and onions . Shame le lack of skills
Well done a little more work be stopping and starting like it was never in storage so long nice to know more of the history around its life and how it was left in france .
You guys are doing great, getting them running, you might try checking the valves, might have a burned valve. I just subbed, left a thumbs up, and a tap on the bell. Thanks for sharing.
Nice, I hope it's restored and preserved. It's a piece of world history on wheels. Wouldn't have started it with four decades old oil in the sump though. That's all muck by now.
no worries, it was drained of all its fluids before being restarted. he is in good hands and will no longer do a thankless job. he was not spared after his landing in italy. he served in a stone quarry
I love it. Those Straight 6 GMC' engines are hard to kill. Where did you find it ? Will it get restored ? I hope so. Your lucky to have such a neat piece of WW2 history. Good luck
at 2:08 you edited out the number plate on the tractor , then at 3:43 the number plate is seen clearly " 742 XX 25" lol , i have a few old cckw trucks , and a few wc series dodges, keep up the good work and restore this old girl
An amazing video and story, honestly so proud of you guys for saving this beast ! I’ve subscribed and can’t wait to watch more. Just wish there was English captions but don’t worry if not !
They don't make trucks like that anymore, can you imagine how many of them hose you could have made for the price of a new military vehicle. Easy to fix, no computer to fail, simple body style.
That was when built in America meant it was built to last. Now you're lucky to get five years out of anything with GM on it! All plastic and no pride in building anything.
The life of most vehicles in combat had been calculated to be about eight weeks if I recall . Finding them is becoming a bit more difficult buying them a bit more expensive , restoring them is very expensive , but will only increase , so find them now and at least preserve them in good storage so they can be restored .
My one senior neighbor had one those truck also World War 2 veteran also he put 1968 General Motors Chevrolet 292 6 cylinder with 2 barrel hand choke , Manual transmission update then years later 1976 put 350 V8 4 barrel daul exhaust with 5 speed Manual transmission floor shifter updated 2 axles as 390 ratios each also had made roof for cab plus updated lots of plus tilt box too! He nickname his Rusty To Go ! It was loud but used for farm work especially poop for fields!
No bells, no whistles, no electronics - just plain old rugged engineering, a heart of iron and a soul that lives again.
Hope you guys decode to restore it to WW2 standard. A piece of history saved.
Stay safe and cheers 🇦🇺
Thank you guys for saving that little bit of history. My hats off to you.
Congratulations to the starter motor for an outstanding performance 😜 Nice truck and I enjoy watching progress on your restoration.
Well done lads, that was great.
Thanks !!!
Fabien

Sorry Guys, I`m almost 60 and would have liked to watch your movie to the End. It was that for me "backwards" played music that drove me nuts!

Good old truck, post war they spread lime in the fields .
Great work on blocking out number plate on tractor

at 2:08 you edited out the number plate on the tractor , then at 3:43 the number plate is seen clearly
" 742 XX 25" lol , i have a few old cckw trucks , and a few wc series dodges, keep up the good work and restore this old girl
This is the engine that won the war - GMC 270 straight-6. Half a million were built.
Exactly
Fabien
Right on! Piece of rolling history there! Amazed you got it going so easily, sounds like it needs valve job badly, popping on 4 or 5 cylinders😉
At the end of the video we have solved the rocker problem
2 rods were bent.
after releasing an exhaust valve, the GMC left like new ;-)
Surely you would clean the Tank out and Run fresh Fuel and Check the Oil and Change the Spark Plugs at the very least before Starting it ?
Fabien
Very unusual to see French People anywhere near a military vehicle very unusual indeed. Usually Running away from them . 🙊🙉🙈

👍😂
My Dad was an MP Sgt. in charge of the Red Ball Express convoys which supplied 1st Army's EvacHosp #67, in Fr, Hd, Be, Ge and Cz.
Where should i look to find a CCKW? they're soo cool

Bgd.
Try doing that with modern vehicles after a similar time lapse.
Not possible 😂😂
Thanks fabien
In Philippines were still using this truck with Isuzu engine and reo m35 under chassis, for offroad load

The music is a poor choice and too loud. Someone shouting, "That feels good!" every 30 seconds is awful.
👍 👍 👍!!!
They don't make trucks like that anymore, can you imagine how many of them hose you could have made for the price of a new military vehicle. Easy to fix, no computer to fail, simple body style.
That’s amazing! Did it start with the original spark plugs? Isn’t the electrical system 6 volts? Did you just jump it with 12 volts?
Won't hurt the starter just make it spin faster probably good for an engine sitting so long.
The generator lights and gauges won't like that though.

That was kool as he'll dudes!

When she was in service she was likely a supplies or troop carrier I'm surprised there's no bullet holes in her frame
Bravissimi
Music sucks but I would love to own one of those old trucks
Petrol engine? As you shown in thumbnail , in 1943 , battery operated self starter was in existence?
My one senior neighbor had one those truck also World War 2 veteran also he put 1968 General Motors Chevrolet 292 6 cylinder with 2 barrel hand choke , Manual transmission update then years later 1976 put 350 V8 4 barrel daul exhaust with 5 speed Manual transmission floor shifter updated 2 axles as 390 ratios each also had made roof for cab plus updated lots of plus tilt box too! He nickname his Rusty To Go ! It was loud but used for farm work especially poop for fields!
👍👍👍😍🤩
Wonder where this was found, filmed
Those days no Hydralic steering you need 2 men to steer. THANKS Good luck.
If it were in proper order it's not that bad , even just moving slightly they steer with not a lot of effort .
Why are you blurring the regplates. All tractors have one.
Truck must have last run on ethanol free gas when stored away or that carb never would have worked without a complete rebuild
Are those bullet holes in the windscreen?
My dad drove one of these in ww2
Magnifico camión, y los frenos?
Well that's one way of fucking up the engine after 40 year
