I used to love Syd. I got a little TOO much into him. I think... I'm not sure, but i think I was somehow hoping to become the ultimate psychonaut. The only result is that i killed a lot of brain cells. In definitely dumber. And I see reality/the truth better than anyone else I know because i didnt close out potential truth. But I'm still here!
@@Stahlgewitter today its global knowledge that shrooms regenerate nerves, its a lie that it `burns`your braincells. It changes you totaly, yes, and if you dont aligne with it you for sure feel very lost, but its not tru friend. You most allow the changes, the new you to grow. Hope your ok
Yup! So deconstructedly bare and beautiful. Ty 🙏 Like most great discoveries, I innocently, but surreptitiously and serendipitably, found this one while looking for something else.
David Gilmour, who worked with Roger Waters at Madcap's sessions, adds that the sessions with Barrett were difficult but inspired, and describes an anecdote on the Octopus song: "We had all the text in front, but [Syd] inserted a sentence there from nothing: "Little minute gong coughs and clears his throat". It has nothing to do, musically speaking, with the song, but it works perfectly. The only other person who could break the time - ignoring the number of jokes in favor of the texts - was John Lennon »
That line was also there on the “Clowns and Jugglers” recordings, though, before Waters and Gilmour got involved producing the album. Syd just forgot to write the line down, I guess, and was remembering it from the previous versions.
My first listen to this song on another compilation was startling to say the least, yet oddly compelling. Of course I knew of poor Syd but I didn't know its history and kept thinking the band was literally trying to keep up with him...or vice versa...or BOTH. This remix only confirms that impression, at least for me.
Nice Re-Master. It would be awesome if there were some Rick Wright keyboards on this too. Also check out Captain Sensible's (of the Damned) tribute to Syd on his version of Octopus. It is on You Tube too. Captain Sensible is a huge Syd Barrett fan and was playing live with others on Astronomy Domine at the Rodger (Syd) Barrett tribute concert at Cambridge a few years ago,
I bought both of Syd's albums at once, in the double-LP package called _Syd Barrett_ in the 80s. I only found it by visiting NYC. It was an obvious must-buy. But they had no lyric sheet, and nobody I knew had any lyrics for them. In fact, nobody else I knew even owned the albums, though many were interested! So my friends and I got used to the songs without knowing the lyrics, which are very musical but un-guessable. When I started looking up lyrics on the Internet, a lot of what I found seemed made up. These look pretty accurate, though. _"It's true in their tree they cried"_ is a spectacular line! Did the original (individual) releases have printed lyrics?
No. However, in 2021, Rob Chapman released a book, _The Lyrics of Syd Barrett_ , that features the closest we're likely to get to a definitive collection of Barrett's lyrics. For the Barrett solo albums, David Gilmour went back to the multitracks and transcribed what he could. There are a few mysteries left -- did Barrett say "mad cap laughed" or "mad cat laughed?" -- but the vast majority of lyrics have been nailed down. Finally we know what Barrett was saying at the end of "No Man's Land."
fantastic version, probably the definitive one for me

Thank you, this is great. What a great artist Syd was.

I always got a kick out of that line. I just thought it was a Barrett eccentricity you don't question. It's who he was. Vegetable man. Lol

The've used a different vocal take for "Isn't it good to be lost in the wood
Isn't it bad so quiet there, in the wood"
It almost doesn't sound like him! Especially when compared to his lines right afterward
