I started an online golf coaching program without a marketing analysis of any kind. It turns out nobody ever wanted this kind of service, and all those who encouraged me to make it work were basically being nice and didn't want to turn me down. The biggest lesson I learned is exactly this video is about: doing a market research is wayyyy more important than pretty much anything. If I had watched this video before I started that program, I would have stopped before it was too late. Thanks Alex, your video is very helpful and this is going to help a lot of people!

Right! Unfortunately only less than 10% do what I'm doing which is preparing before I dive in,but not diving in and preparing for a lifetime is still a loss. So just diving in at least starts something. I'm still looking. No one believes in me so I got to believe in me. That's the first step. Believing you can.
I developed a product that was a total disaster, but now that I found your channel, I'm making all different so the new product will not flops

Here’s my challenge right now: I’ve been selling my online course/coaching program for about 4 years to a very specific who. (Realtors) I teach a specific selling style I want to expand my niche to all sales people. I’m trying to figure out my focus on if I should continue to serve just one demographic or open up to all sales people? Here’s what I see time and time again, people teaching a specific thing or niche (copywriting) but are able to appeal to many different industries. Do you only teach copywriting to one specific profession? Thanks for your advice!
I teach copywriting to freelance copywriters and entrepreneurs.
You absolutely don’t need to focus on realtors, but that makes a stronger offer.
If you want to go broader on audience, go more specific on the benefit and/or mechanism/system you teach.

Honestly, personal preference is 80% of it. EVERY business needs copy. So my advice is become the best copywriter around for a very particular type of business.

therapy would definitely be a niche! of course, you could always niche down even further, but starting there is a great way to start!
my biggest mistake is focusing too much on which niche is profitable instead of focusing on who you want to serve and what their specific problem that you can actually solve!
Haven't found your niche yet? This manual has a list of hundreds of US industries. Maybe you can find one there.
"Thioglycolic acid manufacturing" is on the list. Haven't a clue, but more practical things are listed such as thrift stores,
baked goods stores, clothing, etc. The manual is very long, but worth looking at. Your local library might have a copy. (2017)

I 'm seriously confused about what should be a copywriting niche? Is it to be the medium or does it have to be an industry, or, a combination of the two? Have not been able to decide for a long long time, and have remained stuck with no business.
A niche usually describes the type of business you write for. So more of the “industry”. You could also specialize in a specific medium too. But niche is generally more industry related. Hope that helps!

Wow, thanks your comment. Though I could do without the trolling, in fact the whole world could do with less trolling. Maybe consider that before you leave a nasty comment on someone else's channel. This video is all about taking business ideas and fine-tuning them to figure out if it'll be profitable or flop. If you listened to the intro, then you would have known this was about ranking new business ideas and figuring out the niche.
