    I went to study in Italy with my designer clothes and felt unstylish. Took them back on a trip home and started dressing from a limited high street capsule wardrobe. They wore out within 3 months and I was able to look great everyday. Now I’m back home with my investment high quality pieces with access to affordable dry cleaning and ironing. Trying to do the 33/3 capsule wardrobe method again.

    Sophie, you have no idea how much you have helped me. I am 21 now and I had this urge to have the cutest tops and trendy clothes. When I started making money, I wanted to buy them all but your channel came to my feed as a surprise gift from God I guess. I am so mindful about shopping and sticking to my own style rather than copy-pasting what is trendy. Thanks to you

    This is what I've done for over a decade as a digital nomad. I literally only have clothes that fits in my suitcase and if I buy something new, something old needs to go.
    Before being a nomad, I had wardrobe full of stuff but surprisinly there's not been a day that I missed any of my clothes, bags or shoes.
    Its liberating to reduce the stuff and clutter, and I get to see the world because of my minimalism.

    Whenever I put together my capsules in the past some very specific things were missing - so I learned to sew. There is something magical about the feeling of wearing a pair of proper structured trousers you made yourself. I‘m now trying to fill most of the gaps in my wardrobe with items I made so I don’t have to compromise on materials or colours. It also gives me new appreciation for my clothes. Of course I won’t be able to make everything, I‘m not a professional seamstress. But it’s surprising what you can accomplish with a basic sewing machine and a bit of practice 😊

    I agree with you that we wear a portion of all the clothes we own. We tend to grab the most worn and comfortable or closet ones in reach with out thinking. I tend to buy certain clothes because they are different and may want a change in style aside from the clothes I already have. It is society today to buy and shop even if we don't need it. It is more of a feel good feeling than a need feeling. I love your way of thinking for your simple life living. You are so honest and genuine about what is important in reality. Even in the working world , a few pieces can mix and match to create a different outfit . Thank you for talking about the 33 capsule wardrobe. Worth trying!

    The question you ask in the beginning, "why do we buy new when we don't even wear what we already have".. I think has to do with identity, we sometimes get lost in all the voices around us, and we get seduced in many directions, but it is not rooted in who we truly are: meaning what makes us feel truly free, comfortable, an reflects who we want to be on a deeper level. I am finally getting to a place where the pieces I buy reflects this... I thought I did before, but it was always temporary. And yes, in a way we are always evolving and changing... But the art to me now, is to find the style that can stay and evolve with me also in 10 years, both for style and durability. I find it so exciting! 😊

    i grew up with a hoarder mom and had the same habits as a kid. the only method i ever used that worked, to get me down to a minimalist, is "would i purchase this today or in the future?". ive also become somewhat of a fabric snob, and prefer pure cotton, wool or cashmere, none of that man-made synthetic stuff. ive gotten rid of close to 80% of my wardrobe and now am fully comfortable going abroad for years with just a small carry on. for this upcoming winter even, i have 3 sweaters that i used to love but have realized the cut doesnt look good on me so i will be leaving them and seeking out 1 upgraded replacement. having a capsule wardrobe is so freeing. especially when its all basics and in the same color pallet.

    I loved your tip about not immediately getting rid of the things in the "no" pile. While I rarely regretted parting with anything I decluttered, there were one or two things I actually looked for and realized I didn't have! I do think that clothes can be a great catalyst for helping someone become the person they want to be, but oftentimes people buy clothes for a vague version of themselves they haven't given much thought to. Your video has inspired me to KonMari my wardrobe again and give this challenge a go! 💚✨

    It looks like fun, honestly. I've realized that I have so many clothes for my "fantasy" self, and not my real self. I have a similar lifestyle as you (hot heat most of the year and active). Your capsule wardrobe is in inspiration for a wardrobe I want and I'd actually use.
    I have actually set up an Mercari account to sell the clothes that I never wear. I hope that it can bring someone else a bit more joy without being wasteful.

    • @thatswhatisaidCA
      @thatswhatisaidCA ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Just about the "fantasy self", I seem to have a "fantasy location". I buy things that suit different countries or vacations, and I don't travel that much, so they tend to sit there. Perhaps I should just wear the too-nice clothes down to starbux or the mall but i feel overdone and I feel like everyone is staring at me (i'm also tall, so I kind of stand out around here). I know it's "me", because I would wear this in Europe but not in Vancouver BC? I have to unpack that one...

I came here to the comments section to see if there was any activity from you.... it is surprising to myself and a bit abstract to think of a stranger at the end of the world.... but that's how it happened and I wanted you to know that a person from Poland is thinking about you :) It qualifies as conceptual art for me :)

    Inspirational video Sophie! In Germany we have real seasons, so it's not always summer, so it gets difficult with 33 pieces. Nevertheless, I also mucked out. Over time, you always wear the same thing in rotation anyway. Without underwear and jackets, I'm still around 40 pieces of trousers (short/long), shirts, sweaters, etc.

    I’m on my first three months trying this challenge since yesterday! The first thing I already learned is that I could do better on my purchasing decisions. Too many duplicates of items that don’t really work for me nor my wardrobe. That makes it harder to create good outfits with less. I know what to look for when I need something new (or second hand of course).

    You have nice simple comfy looking clothes. I have seen Project 333 from its start and think it is a nice thing to do. I am not one who is into capsule wardrobes, but I also have nowhere to keep the other seasons stored, so I have all my clothes together. I think capsules are healpful for many people though. I like what you ended up with and how you organized them. I love how you are able to mix and match too. I am someone who if I have an outfit I love, I don't mix it up!! You have a lot more eclectic ways of putting things together. Great job. There was a time when I only had about 20 items of clothing. I think right now, I have more clothes than ever as a minimalist and it is because I am postpartum and have my pregnancy clothes, post partum clothes, and the clothes I hope to get back into once I am healed and back into shape a bit. It feels so gross to have all these clothes right now!! I plan on getting pregnant again in a year too, so I can't even get rid of them yet!

    My two biggest challenges are that I live in a cold climate, and that I hate wearing bras so I have to wear patterns otherwise it's more noticeable and I feel a little exposed 😅 So patterns make it harder to mix and match my clothes. But it doesn't matter what's the specific topic of the video, I love to watch each of her videos at the evening before going to sleep because her voice, the music she chooses, the style of recording, the warm light/colors... give me a lot of peace.

    I did this last year for about 4 months; i felt good about it, excited to play with what I had, I did good. But suddenly before summer I snapped. I pulled out my clothes from the summer before and disliked everything; I just NEEEEDED to shop. I think it was also a want/need to create my older self (60 in a few months), so maybe this was part of it. This started a shopping frenzy for a couple of weeks, and then that was my "new" capsule for the summer months. I still have the old clothes but I don't feel anything for them anymore. Not sure where this is going; I think i'm just going with the flow. I suppose "awareness" is the important thing.

    Such a perfect timing! I'm going on an annual trip to visit my parents next month and packing has always been a torture for me, every year I arrive to their place with an extremely heavy suitcase and I only end up wearing 5-6 basic outfits. Thanks for a new challenge! I'm totally in! Now I feel determined to make this year's trip different 🤍😊

    I think my struggle is that I feel wasteful for donating or selling the clothes I bought and ended up not wearing, then there’s some pieces are more for special occasions, or in my case I had a baby and now things aren’t exactly fitting the way they did before but I’ve been hoping with losing the baby weight it’ll be fitting again… but definitely struggling to overall get rid of clothes as I’ve gotten rid of pieces and regretted it but it was months to a year later… Love your videos it’s helpful and encouraging!

    my biggest struggle with clothes is the weather. where i live, it can be freezing in the mornin and scorching hot in the afternoon. so i hate putting on a cute outfit & feeling great for the first couple of hours then regretting i put on too much/not enough. hopefully in future i'll move somewhere where it's not so unstable.

    As someone who also lives in Hawai'i, I've struggled with what to do with the cold weather pieces I wear when I travel. Thank you for sharing about boxing those up and setting them aside. Seeing them in my closet makes me feel a little guilty about owning them, since they're so seldom used. It probably sounds a little silly, but your comments helped me give myself permission to declutter my mental space by simply keeping them in a difference place.

    I think style and fit is also a thing. I think its good to think about what you wear and what your habits are. If you gain/loose weight, change lifestyle, going out more, going out less and quality of your clothes.

    Literly. I am on vacation for 9 days and I have brought limited stuff. I have only worn 3 outfits plus pijamas so far. At home I do tent to do laundry when my clothes are finished. So about every 3 weeks. For my vacay I packed 2 going outside outfits= a summer dress and jeans with a nice shirt/blause. Loungeoutfits: long legging with tshirt and short elgging with sweatshirt. My shoes are sneakers and I brought my new pink barbie floofy slippers. My pijamas and I brought my swimsuit just in case.

I declutter from time to time but it seems a work from the rest of my live😮… I have done to much Impulse shopping, because I Love shopping. But know I want to have only clothes I wear and love. Hey, Sophie! Excited to see where your closet goes in three months! Everytime I try to declutter my clothes, i'm left without knowing what to do with the "home" clothes. Like the old and comfortable ones. Do you have any mindsight on that topic? (That kind of clothing that is not actually pajamas but you only use at the end of the day)

    • @MalamaLife
      @MalamaLife  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I made the mistake of decluttering too many home clothes! Now I have a good amount, so I don't have to keep washing them, but I think the same concept applies. How many pieces do you really need to be practical? If it's not making you happy, get rid of it 😁
