Come across your channel as I bought a bike about 4 months ago wanting to actually get out the house and enjoy something. It's sat there with me being to scared to go out on it, not knowing what to do, wear, where to go, scared of the open road. I'm only 36 but don't seem to be doing anything in life, so, I'm watching through your videos and I really think I might go out one morning on it early avoid traffic. Thank you for the videos.
Hopefully you’ll get on the bike soon. Maybe start with a short, easy ride somewhere quiet?
Just do it. I started riding at 55 I was scared stiff. Now go out all the time, it’s so freeing and you will feel great all day and won’t be able to wait to go out again.
Bike riding is great. Get out there
Utter wimp
You might look for a riding group or find a friend who wants to go out riding. It’s so hard to start out, but it can help to have someone else to go with. Good luck, you can do it!
Haven't been on a bike for 6 weeks now, recovery from a car wreck, just can't wait to get out! My attitude needs a good adjustment.
Great ride Leonardo, very nice! Very happy to know your back was feeling good and nice that Lady Luck was on your side for this outing! 🥰
I have a very up and down relationship with her!
Every day we get up we put ourselves at risk of something going wrong, on the other hand getting up and going out we have many chances for things to go right and to just enjoy life. Stuff happens and thats what life is all about. Otherwise one never gets out of bed.
I recently purchased a new gravel bike which came set up tubeless. I've had a couple of small punctures already that re-sealed on their own and we are holding pressure. I am carrying a couple of spare plugs, a small (60ml)bottle of sealant, and a mimi pump, but no tube. I don't know what it is, but I feel way more confident against issues with punctures on my gravel bike than my road bike with tubes. I've been riding my gravel bike everywhere now.
Belated statement. I was there in England 8 weeks today. It was cold, but sure was fun. I'm truly sorry about your back. So beautiful there,& did did well on this ride.
Remember you got this.
Another great video Leonard, loving the music especially the first three tunes, very atmospheric kept me more engaged watching the ride. These are the type of tunes l would play on my portable speaker riding my bike in London.
@@mangomingo3085 Glad you liked it!
I just love your scenic rides Leonard, all the best from Motor City !!!
Glad you like them!
Thanks for another enjoyable ride Leonard, nice to see green fields again, so dry here in SW Spain! Most of my riding is on a Kalkhoff ebike due to arthritis, average 120-150 km a week, bike now well over #27,000 km, stripped down, mtb tyres for the off road tracks I ride much of the time! My favourite road bike has a triple front still, but an 11/40 9 speed rear end, great for the hills, but cant ride it off road as only takes 28mm road tyres!
You mentioned that gravel bike tyres are prone to punctures!! Is that true…. Am looking to invest in a gravel bike but not keen on the prospect of increased frequency of punctures.
Great content by the way. Using your Chanel to get ideas / motivation as I move from duathlon into cycling as main sport (am a little heavy and currently recovering from hip surgery (hence no running (duathlon)).
Join the club Leonard, in this unpredictable summer weather. Still, it’s improving fitness out in the fresh air. Great video again👍
My sympathy Leonard. I have suffered from a bad back in the past. I find some regular strength exercises help keep it at bay. Anyway, hope you get over it soon.
Cheers

Fab video ❤ Lee miss my gravel bike I used to have kona jake regret selling it kinda wanna get w other one now lol hope your bike gets better keep em.coming 😊
Hi Joanne, I see you are down in Hastings now. Have you moved from up north? Hello Mum!!
Some dry weather in England
I recently arrived in the tropics in rainy season and it's drier than England
We are having a terrible summer.
One of your best videos. A month of zone 2 farming has hurt my zone 3 power noticeably. Too hot for longer rides, I might just take up cul-de-sac cruising again on my track bike to cure my bicycle cabin fever.
Sadly it’s still pretty cold here. Don’t think summer will ever arrive.
@@jollygoodvelo Where I live, it has been mid to high nineties even at six in the evening; so I decided to do my bike laps at late seven PM and that is alright, not many motorist, still light, and mid 80s.
From Oz … good morning.
You’re back on a bike and your back is back on a bike!
You have lovely local lanes to ride. Some are even becoming familiar now from watching your videos.
Tyres? If current tyres are a little puncture-prone there’s two things, of course.
1. Go tubeless.
2. Change the tyre brand and size (if rim width allows, opt for say Pirelli Grave H 45mm).
There are significant differences from both options.
I’m not a big fan of tubeless but I do like sealant filled tubes.
You get more punctures on gravel tires than road tires? That's surprising. I sure don't. I have never had anything that I ride set up tubeless. Still old school I guess. When I do a "gravel ride" I am still on paved roads more than gravel. As always, thanks for the great videos.
Hope you’re doing better soon. I pulled a groin muscle and had no bike for 3 whole days. I thought I’d die. My spouse was tired of me being at home. lol😅
Ouch. Hope that area is feeling better soon!
I feel your pain.
Do you do yoga?
I strained my lower back two days ago, and duly searched a yoga practice.
A session with Adrienne sorted me right out.
Love the films.
We used to live on Havant Road (very busy now?) so love the rides up into the downs.
Also enjoy your input on older cyclists still enjoying the ride.
@@7obeone76 I’ve never really been able to do yoga because I’m not very flexible. I know that is probably a reason to give it a try. My other half does Adrienne’s classes quite regularly.
Adrienne is fantastic!
@@shawnriffhard She knows her yoga.
Ah...The sweet siren song of the Tour de France on the telly. Seductively beckoning all cyclist, no matter how ill or injured, to go out for a ride. "Come and ride...it'll be fine...what could possibly go wrong..."
We can’t resist.
I do know how it is. I’ve been riding fat bike for about a month because it’s so comfortable despite being quite heavy
Hope the back recovers fast. I like to lie on the floor and put my calves on a chair with legs bent at right angle as if I was sitting. Feels good on lower back
Thanks Kevan. My back pain was a one off due to me standing awkwardly for a few hours. Thankfully it’s all back to normal now.
Hope your back feels better soon!
Thank you!
@@jollygoodvelo I hope the same thing for you Leonard.... Age and getting old really sucks.....
Looks like everything went to plan. Did you mean Mike wheeler that is married to Julie? I’ve met them on a couple of FCC rides, this year at the Nottingham one. Lovely couple
I did. Mike and I went cycling about a week before I made this video.
I never know if it’s right decision when back is a bit sore or tight to cycle….sometimes it’s a suck it and see.
Where do you get music fort you tube videos? Thank you 😊
@@thepupsdontlie9930 I get the music from a few places; Epidemic Sound, Audiio and Track Club.
Leonard, I would love a series where you share with us what you eat. Your fitness is amazing but I can see your body is starting to suffer from the extra weight you carry. I loved your earlier videos on the subject and it would help larger people like me as well. A kind of accountability group!
Oh, that would be like watching a car crash.
@@jollygoodvelo Legend!
It’s really pain in the.. where ever.. to try to be still and not going out. Reason in head says ”hold.. hold.. hooooollldd!!” But feeling shouts ”Just do it man! It’s all good!!”. Yep, we all have been there and done same mistakes… 😜 Wise ones does it once; others every time. 🙄
Finally gotten into the ”Summer level” and around 100km is a regular cycling distance.. and 50 to 60km winter time ”long ones” feels short. 😁
Sometimes we just can’t resist going out.
Try 'Pathfinder Pro' and go tubeless if your rims are ok with that.
Thanks for the tip, Andy but I might just go down the route of tubes with sealant in them.
What gearing is on the gravel bike? My "winter/hill" bike (tubes'n'rims lol) has been converted over to 30/46 by 11-36 and I love it compared to the standard compact on my "good" bike, and I've never ran out of top gears on it (recent descent of Bealach Na Ba into Applecross I got a Strava 13th out of 995 for the 55-64 age category, got into the 46/11 briefly, goes to show we don't need big alpine style gearing!), but the gears just don't feel so spaced apart on it... Here in the Highlands I'm still in "spring" clothing, it's truly abysmal this summer and the loch I swim in locally seriously has remained pretty cold, should be nice and warm right now...
24 and 44 tooth chainrings are possible with Sora 9 speed and 12-34 custom cassette. Usually if I'm going 20mph or better, assuming you're best aero position usually 11:09 will get just as fast as pedaling anyway. Riding solo, an older rider probably can't benefit much from bigger gears, but smaller, gamechanger.
My gearing is 50/34 11/28. It’s nice and light but I still run out of gears at times. Well done on your rides!
69 yo and have a 46/30 as well. Makes way more sense to me over the 50/34 that came with the bike.
@@jollygoodvelo Jings.... that's standard "road gearing" that's often on "beginners" bikes that probably put most of them off that live in hilly areas! I recently bought a Vitus Substance VRS gravel bike and it has 30/46 by 11/34 in the 2x10 GRX, and I'm about to experiment with an 11-40 on that(may need a roadlink/extender?)to give a 30/40 low... 34/28 is nasty once you leave the tarmac lol!!!
How did you manage to ride past Southwick Tea Rooms without stopping for coffee and cake? That’s not natural! 😉
best to set up those gravel tires tubeless.
Possibly!
I was about to say that you have Canadian Geese where you are... Well except you don't have a Canada to your North.
They weren’t Canadian geese but we do have them in the Winter: they fly here all the way from Canada.
Your channel showed up in my feed again. Clearly the gods telling me to get my a** back on my bike.
Maybe you should, then.
@@jollygoodvelo Ok. The Gods AND Leonard. Since your reply I've been for two rides. Thanks for the push.
@@elephantsarenuts5161 Well done!
Think positive, don’t buy rubbish tires and always carry a lightweight waterproof jacket.
I’m living dangerously
Punctures? Try tubes with
"gunk" sealant inside. Often
heavier, but less flats!
What is a gravel bike if not simply a road bike with manners?
I bet that gravel bike will do anything with the right tyres.
It’ll do anything with any tyres.
Leonard, you failed to mention being hit by lightning struck by a truck, lorry or caught by aliens from another planet that is fascinated by bike riders, and now your exploring and having coffee on the plane Xenia.
Will you be posting videos from up there?
Cheer up.
If the wifi is up to it.
