    After watching the entire video, it felt like you guys had a lot of hostility towards the 370Z. Aside from the 'compliment' we'll call it, given for its interior, the rest of the comments just felt like slander. The reality, not just on paper, is that the 370Z is technically superior to the 350Z - 100%. Even touching on the brakes, the Akebono brakes from the sports model are commonly swapped onto the 350s because they are far superior, especially on track. I get it. The feel is a bit more raw from the 350Z. I've driven enough cars to know this, GTR R34, 350Z and 370Z being the most relevant. But I feel like the difference is really being overstated and if you want a more visceral experience, you can switch to coilovers, strip the interior etc. and have a better handling car in the 370Z. Don't forget that it is a lighter car than the 350Z, and that although the steel subframe may have possibly been cheaper, it is cm for cm, stronger and more resistant to fatigue.

      You're 100% correct man, we came out of the gate with WAY too much smoke for the 370z. We really should have been hyping both cars, as it is truly just a fantastic evolution of the platform we own!
      We don't script these conversations, so we just got in the car with a general idea of what we wanted to talk about. We wanted to compare the 350z with its contemporary peers, but I think we struggled to come up with any cars that come anywhere near what the Z can do at its price point. So the 370 just started taking strays for no reason 😆 I think the better thing to have done would be to showcase how incredibly both the 350 and the 370 both stack up against cars that sell for double what these cost nowadays.
      Love all your points, and thanks so much for watching the whole video! 🙏🙏

      It’s a newer model so it will be technically more advanced sure, but it falls short on the looks compared to the 350Z. The 350 has iconic looks, especially when you Google what cars looked like in 2003. I remember first seeing the 350z and it was stunning. When I first saw the 370Z it was meh, ok I guess. That’s the difference between both models.

    I loved my GTR, but it was too much car to have fun on the street and I only ever enjoyed it fully at the track, however a friend of mine had a 350Z manual and honestly that car was 10X MORE FUN to drive around town. More power would actually have ruined that car, because at the power level and handling level, you could ring it out in city roads and have fun all the time. Today I am feeling nostalgic for that simple driving pleasure, would love to have a manual Z-car as a wrench monkey car for weekend fun 🙂

    • @Automobros
      @Automobros  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I couldn't agree more, and your opinion holds so much weight coming from GTR ownership!! The GTR is an absolute beast, but it definitely demands a different environment to truly shine. There's something undeniably pure about the 350z, it's like a perfect blend of power and handling for everyday fun.
      You nailed it with the "more power would have ruined it" - it's that sweet spot of performance that makes it so special. And the manual transfers every ounce of that fun directly into your body! The older I get, the more I realize it's not about the power number, it's the entire driving experience that makes a car special.

    I love the 350z. I've owned 5 Z cars, including 2 350s. One was an HR (07), both were manuals. That said, the 370 really is a better sports car. It's like a leaner and meaner 350z. BTW- A 350z coupe doesn't weigh 3600 lbs. The heaviest 350z coupe was 3400lbs. The base DE coupe weighed under 3200.
    My current Z is a 2024 Performance manual. I love this car so much. It's like they combined all the generations of Z into one. It's a greatest hits car. I recently took mine on a 3000 mile road trip across the southwestern US. I averaged almost exactly 30 MPG (manually calculated at fill-ups).

I've stayed on top of maintenance and kept it bone factory configuration...except the rims. Black on black with chrome wheels, that's it. Never changed a thing. Great video. I haven't driven a 350, but I do remember the lasting impression that it left when I saw my first one in person at a fuel station in 2003/2004. Its influence was recalled when I purchased a 2010 Z Roadster Sport in 2018. I made very few upgrades the first few years of ownership until I dumped some money into upgrading the suspension in 2022. Used occasionally as a daily, the ride is a little rough in these East Tennessee hills, but a dose of twisties always numbs that drawback. I prefer the 'vert over the coupe personally, but that's because of the flexibility of the roof. I will add that the car has the optional 7AT (which undoubtedly will upset the purist). It's not a bad transmission, but I wish that the GTR's DCT was in its place.

  • @fritzmckellar1756
    @fritzmckellar1756 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    I DD a 2003 Track. Exterior is unmolested with the exception of 1" wheel spacers on the Rays wheels to get a flush look.
    I think it's perfectly livable for DD with the aftermarket clutch pedal upgrade (adding a single mass OEM-weight flywheel really helps too). Continental Extreme Contact DWS plus (HP 4 season tires) add comfort, maintain reasonable street legal'ish grip, and expand the season scope. I NEED a fun car to go do a mundane short grocery run, this has been a life-saver for me!
    Performance-wise mine has Intake, plenum, Nismo exhaust - like yours mine sounds soooo good!
    Compared to the 370Z, the 350Z PROS are lighter curb weight, and has a prettier lower hood line. Longer wheelbase gives a slightly better ride, interior feels a bit more spacious.
    Worse part of the car is the obnoxious rear strut tower bar that kills so much practicality of the rear hatch. 😕
    As long as people understand this is a cheap, reliable, reasonably fast & fun GT car they will never be mislead.

    • @Automobros
      @Automobros  25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The 6 spoke Rays are *chefs kiss* and getting them flush with the fenders is exactly what I would do as well!
      We also had the DWS06 on the car when it was full-time DD. Absolutely excellent tires and truly gave year round fun/confidence. The clutch upgrade might be the secret DD sauce ingredient, the OEM clutch feel is what I think drains your energy the most in rush hour traffic! Maybe that is the move when it is time for a new clutch..
      Completely agree with all of your comparisons to the 370Z, and on the rear strut bar! They could not have made it any more intrusive 😂
      And couldn't say it any better, if you understand exactly what this car is, it is truly hard to beat! Thanks so much for your thoughts and for giving our video a shot 🙏🙏

I went with the Genesis coupe mainly because I preferred it's styling. I'm at 143k on it, I keep up the maintenance, and lightly modded it (headers, intake, exhaust), which brings me to the disappointing comparison between the Genesis coupe and 350z. The 350z has so much more aftermarket support and it's not even close!

    As an owner of a 350z Track Edition I purchased new in 2003, I agree with much of your comments. Well before you published this, I already described my Z as analog. There's no "digital" to it. Yes, it is so raw. You hear and feel everything, road, wind, and mechanical. It's immersive. One friend of mine called it a mini Viper. Sans plenum-spacer and stereo, mine's bone stock and I have no intention of letting it go. But the intake (one for me) and exhaust makes me ponder.
    With a duck-feet stance, I'm very interested in that Nismo pedal.

    • @Automobros
      @Automobros  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Total immersion is the best way to put it! Very well said.
      The intake and exhaust were added purely to enhance everything you mentioned. We installed those not expecting a single HP gain, only to add more driver feedback. it makes it feel like the car is talking more directly to you!
      And the Nismo pedal was the smallest touch that made the biggest difference. I thought it would make a marginal difference, but it makes you feel like a rev-match hero. For the price it's a must buy!

    • @Automobros
      @Automobros  27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      This is a very fair criticism, and we appreciate the feedback! We have a 07 HR with 140k problem-free miles, but that definitely does not mean that all of these cars do.. Looking back, we absolutely displayed some survivorship bias, and should have pointed out (at the very least) the common issues that these cars face. Probably worth a follow-up video to address this! And thank you for the post, we're really trying to foster a community who will continue the conversation down here in the comments and paint the most complete picture we can! 🙏🙏
      For the suspension, technically it is a Double Pivot Front Suspension? It has a upper and lower "wishbones" but that doesn't quite tell the whole story:

      @Automobros No problem. I can tell you guys want to spread good information.
      Im not too surprised you've had a good experience. 07-08 350Zs got a fairly significant updated VQ engine compared to the '03-'06s. '03-'06s had major issues with burning oil, so much so that they had a TSB advising owners to bring their cars in to have them checked out.
      '07-'08 HR engines are the preferred years to buy. The older ones will have severe engine issues. I believe there is even another common catastrophic design flaw that takes out the engines. Possibly timing chain guides. I'm not positive. I used to know a lot more about 350Zs when they were newer. My friend had a new '08 back then.

    • @JeremyDavis-jp4ep
      @JeremyDavis-jp4ep 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      The suspension is Multi-Link, front and rear.
      Actually, there are three different kinds of engines in these cars: DE, DE "Rev-Up", and HR. The DE is the most solid, imho. It is a bit more "pedestrian", being in Maxima's, Altima's, Pathfinders, etc. However that gives it its strength: Nissan spent alot of time and money, developing that engine. It was in fact tuned to be more sporty, for G35's and 350's. It is the torque-iest VQ, most robust, and that generation sounds the best. These can burn some oil, due to the cheap piston rings that Nissan used. However they do not burn like a "Rev-Up". The DE is a good overall engine. I've seen them with 300k+. In fact, all three of these engines are good. Check your oil levels, especially with the DE's, keep them full, that will solve most problems.
      The HR was developed within a couple years. Japanese reviewers had complained that the original VQ was not "sporty" enough. (Didn't rev high enough, apparently). Hence Nissan seemed to release the HR quickly, before ironing out all of the problems. The HR's could have a catastrophic failure: Oil Gallery Gaskets. Due to Nissan, (more likely Renault), cheaping out, and using a paper gasket for the oil gallery, instead of a metal one. Nissan changed this paper gasket to metal, in the 2013+ VQ37VHR. Solving the issue. Some 07-12 Z's and G's were affected, but not all.
      The HR is a more race-bred engine, with some impressive techniques used from motorsport, (like the "Ladder Frame", asymmetric piston skirts, etc). The HR had increased compression ratio, more horsepower (but less torque), smoother, higher-revving, better mpg's, etc. A healthy HR is a beautiful thing, no doubt.

It was a small weight penalty that the car paid for, less than 10lbs if I remember correctly but the steel subframe kept production cost down, helped with higher corner exit speeds, and helped with torque load amongst other issues they were addressing. I have no check engine lights, no codes, fresh spark plugs, only 80k miles. I’m curious how you’re pulling more fuel economy than my 2009 Honda fit out of a 350Z

      First of all, sick car brother, congratulations! 🥵
      We also are on the stock tune, and then just Nismo intakes and a cat back, but the car will easily go 400 miles on a tank, which I believe is in line with EPA estimates?
      www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find.do?action=sbs&id=24761
      260 per tank seems REALLY low, unless you're absolutely hooning it everywhere. Maybe you're running super rich with the test pipes and they are just doing a good job hiding that from your ECU? I might look into getting it tuned.
      I don't know if there are differences between the base car engine and the Nismo version though

      @Frankenslide 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Automobros one other odd thing about my Nismo is the most gas I’ve ever seen it take is about 16 gallons I’m aware it’s supposed to be a 20 gallon tank but both my digital DTE gauge and my fuel gauge are both showing empty like buried empty at 260ish miles and the car only takes 16 gallons lol

    • @Automobros
      @Automobros  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That sounds like the floater in your tank isn't accurate, which seems to be somewhat common with these cars. You should definitely have 4 more gallons in the tank. But of course it'd be pretty sketch trying to use those gallons with all your instruments yelling that the tank is empty

    The 370z might have taken a few strays in this one.. 😆 Just want it known that we LOVE that car as well! Let us know if you're driving one

      Yes an HR with baby miles on it!! That's definitely going to be worth real money down the line. And yeah you have the exact right idea, people treated the 300zx like it was worthless for the longest time

    untouchable is a little much
    how can it be the last analog sports coupe when the 370z is just as analog
    the 350z is the ugliest Z car ever produced. (everything wrong with it was fixed in the 370z)
    it's a great cheap car for building a dedicated drift/track car out of
    but aside from that it's not worth owning
    it's a car for the broke boys (nothing wrong with that)
    that have a little more money than the g35 buyers lol

      12 years ago, people were saying these exact same things about the 240sx...
      We really shouldn't have called out the 370z 😆 in so many ways it's the same car, just improved! It's really the whole platform/chassis that seems untouchable in it's price range. I just don't think anything does what quite what this family of vehicles does.
      Beauty is in the eye for sure, but the cleaner lines of the 350z are easier on said eyes and will age like wine 😁 I really think you aren't giving this car enough credit!
      But yes we are broke boys, so can't argue with you there 😂 thanks for sharing your thoughts! 🙏

      What does Broke Boys mean exactly? I've been driving Z33s since 2013, make 140K CAD/yr with 22+ years in the RCAF. My 1st DE coupe was FBO, this 07 HR GT roadster is 1 of 35 and stays stock. I'm 39. Broke Boys?? What???? 😅🤣😅🤣

      Handling and engine, shorter and wider, 350z undeniably has a bigger following tho, 370 didn't change much (other than inventing rev match,) love my 370 though, it's really a preference thing

    • @Automobros
      @Automobros  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Wolffhardtt great points! I didn't really think about it being shorter, that's gotta sharpen the handling a fair amount.
      Yeah I wish we compared the 350z more to other cars instead of honing in on the 370z, but I think we did because there just aren't many other cars like these! Both cars are absolutely incredible, the styling differences let you get a car closer to your preferences 😁
      and I think if the prices came down a little more, the 370 would get a much larger community behind it! It's just so easy to get a 350 cheap nowadays. Thanks for your answer! 🙏🙏
